I'm a fucking HOUSEWIFE?

ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup · 02/09/2020 20:55

Just had the car insurance renewal on DH's car. I am a named driver, and the details listed state that I am a 'housewife'. How the fuck is this even a category?

OP posts:
Eminybob · 02/09/2020 22:10

op just admit you made a mistake on the form and call it a day but don’t forget to tell us what your job is before you go

nancybotwinbloom · 02/09/2020 22:12

I wish I was a fucking housewife.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2020 22:14

@HunterHearstHelmsley

I'm confused, what would be the problem with the named driver arranging the insurance?

House husband definitely is an option on car insurance. My Dad is listed as one Grin

Insurance has to be done by the person who is the main driver of the vehicle. It can’t be done by the named driver, because they are just an add on, someone the main driver is permitting to drive the vehicle . They are “additional”.

@nancybotwinbloom I love your username
I love Weeds

IWantT0BreakFree · 02/09/2020 22:16

If this is a wind up thread, it's the shittest trolling ever. And if it's genuine...wtf 😂 Utterly bizarre.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/09/2020 22:17

I hate "housewife" I'm not married to the bloody house... although I may as well have been over the past 6 months.
SAHM is fine.

I think I might still be listed as supply teacher. I'm only ever a few weeks away from being a supply teacher and have had phases where work has presented itself at short notice, although due to childcare I'm not currently looking.

Flatpackback · 02/09/2020 22:17

Someone please explain the difference between housewife, home maker and stay at home mum. As far as I can see they all do the same and have done for generations. Undermining previous generations of SAHMs does nothing to make current ones superior. If anything, it's much easier these days as far less physical effort is involved.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/09/2020 22:19

When the DCs are too big to carry off SAHM anymore, I'd like to title myself "Domestic Co-ordinator" Grin

EmJay19 · 02/09/2020 22:19

@ToadinTheHoleWithKetchup changing provider is the right answer! Housewife horrible term whether full time parent or not. I prefer full time parent fwiw

C8H10N4O2 · 02/09/2020 22:19

They always ask your occupation and the named drivers. They don’t make assumptions

Plainly I don't use enough emoticons.

OhCaptain · 02/09/2020 22:21

Everyone who has a child is a full time parent.

You don’t stop being a parent when you’re at work, or when your kids are in school, or out with friends, or with a babysitter...

ssd · 02/09/2020 22:21

Op, so what do you do, are you a prozzie?
No need to be embarrassed, this isn't the 1950s.

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/09/2020 22:23

Someone please explain the difference between housewife, home maker and stay at home mum.

You can be a housewife and homemaker while child free. That’s the difference.

Neolara · 02/09/2020 22:23

I was a sahm for over a decade. I reckoned I definitely wasn't a housewife because I didn't spend enough time cleaning to qualify.

RedRiverShore · 02/09/2020 22:23

My insurance is with Aviva and they didn’t ask my occupation there was just a short list of jobs which would exempt you from having their insurance, they do advertise though that they don’t ask a lot of questions for having their insurance

GiantKitten · 02/09/2020 22:24

I do the insurance for both our cars, including the one I’m a named driver on. Insurers don’t care!

When my DSIL wasn't working for a time my DBro referred to her as 'CEO of domestic affairs'
ColleagueFromMars · 02/09/2020 22:27

So OP is self-employed, has an actual job title, arranges the car insurance herself and is pissy at the insurance provider for making a mistake 🤔

It needed one phone call to correct it not a thread on mumsnet being a dick Hmm

ColleagueFromMars · 02/09/2020 22:30

Like @HunterHearstHelmsley my dad was a house husband and spent a lot of his life filling out forms with that, no problem.

Wifeofbikerviking · 02/09/2020 22:31

Wow I'm shocked at how offended you got by being called a housewife. I am a housewife/sahm and proud to be so.

I am not forced to do this, supported however by my husband. We work as a team and this dynamic suits us. It's not the 1950s so I dont offer him footrubs the second he walks in, nor do I constantly bake or do whatever else you assume housewives do 🤣

It sounds like a mistake on either husband or insurers part as you do have a job. It however, is not an offensive term

Just to note my insurer has the option 'Househusband" under job title too.

Miseryl · 02/09/2020 22:31

What an odd tread!

Doggodogington · 02/09/2020 22:31

Self employed....I’m going to go with MLM. Perfume, Avon, Body shop, diet pills, sweet boxes. Am I getting close?

Chloemol · 02/09/2020 22:32

SO change the details to self employed then and stop being so unreasonable

Lots of people are happy and proud to be called housewife

Get over it

purpleme12 · 02/09/2020 22:32

The only difference between housewife and house parent is that housewife doesn't necessarily have children. To anyone who's asking

Mulhollandmagoo · 02/09/2020 22:34

@Worried234

You might not be a housewife, but by the sounds of it, you're a bit of a twat.
😂😂😂😂

I'm so confused as to why you're angry!!!
