Would this be two portions in your house?

If you look at the per portion calories each piece is about 95g. The NHS recommends a portion of fish is 140g in weight.

Would this pack feed two people in your house? DH and I are in disagreement.

Not in our house it wouldntHmm. It would feed one person. I dont think people get fat from over eating fish, unless its deep fried in batter. It's so much cheaper to go to the fish counter at Morrisons though, if you have one.
(Or better still, send the lads out fishing!!).

It's to make a Hairy Dieters recipe. Just realised they recommend 150g per portion.

I made a fish curry last night for 4 with 4 frozen cod fillets about that size. I added a can of chick peas and fresh spinach and served with rice. It was plenty filling. So it depends what you’re serving it with.

lilsquish · 29/08/2020 23:04

Yes, two but i find fish fillets alwaysnseem small and unfilling. does anyone ever think that the two pieces of salmon fillets are enough for two people? Id need the two for me alone - yes im greedy :-D

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2020 23:05

So OP then even for a diet recipe (with additional protein as well) it's not enough for 2 portions, and they suggest mash and veg with it - for people on a diet...

So those serving this as a family meal (for people not on a diet) are talking pish or not feeding the family enough.

KenAdams · 29/08/2020 23:09

I know @WaxOnFeckOff but I've been defending my position of being right so now I'll just have to style it out 😬

Two people in this house. Same as the similar size packs of salmon. One fillet = one portion.

SwedishK · 29/08/2020 23:13

Yes, should be enough for two as long as there's carbs and plenty of veg with it.

For my husband though, it wouldn't be enough.

You go girl...Grin

I get cod in Costco, massive pack and shared between 4, my view as to a portion may be skewed. I live with 3 tall, weight training men though. I eat half what they do and am still struggling with a bit of podge since lock down and working at home and not getting enough exercise. DH and DSs seem to have managed. Boy's have youth on their side and DH does a physical job.

Ellapaella · 29/08/2020 23:20

One of those pieces would be enough for me. My DH would eat both though.

Megan2018 · 29/08/2020 23:26

We’d eat it as a piece each but with lots of other things. I could easily eat 2 pieces but it makes for a more expensive meal and we are watching the pennies.

danadas · 29/08/2020 23:27

That would just feed me or I'd be hungry and then eat loads of shite.

Angelina82 · 29/08/2020 23:30

For that price it would need to!

bumblingbovine49 · 29/08/2020 23:41

One piece of that cod is about 130 cals. Of course that is too small a portion if it is part of a main meal in a 2000cal day. Even with potatoes and veg it would only be about 400-500 cals for the whole meal.

If you are eating 1200 cals a day, then maybe it is ok

gurglebelly · 29/08/2020 23:43

Probably but depends on the rest of the dish

SD1978 · 29/08/2020 23:54

Yes, but if it's a bit small, id probably have some carbs with it as well as salad- some nice bread. Some fish can shrink down a fair bit. But if I k ew another family members would eat two- I'd probably buy 2 packets, and then I'd be able to have the spare one day for lunch.

shinynewapple2020 · 30/08/2020 00:03

@KenAdams

Ha I think its enough *@InDeoEstMeaFiducia* but DH thinks its a ridiculously small portion for a main meal in a day when he's allowed 2000 calories.

Same for us. I always buy fish frozen in a larger bag as we would have 3 portions between 2 people, I eat a normal portion size but DH would have double.

Enko · 30/08/2020 00:10

I would and have as I shop in waitrose give 1 piece per person. However, that is not the portion for that meal it is the fish for the meal. So you add plenty other things you like. Waitrose does some rather nice pouches of stuff like this this one is Chickpea Spinach and Quinoa and we often have that and veg with it.

Some rice or potatoes at times too.. Yes it will fill me and dh too.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/08/2020 05:49

It's two small portions, which are fine with lots of sides, especially filling ones like potatoes or the chick peas and spinach mix linked above.

But if you're having the whole pack per person, that's a very expensive way to eat fish and £5 for just the protein component of one meal for one person is more than most people can or will spend so that's a reason to make one pack serve two.

But if you want to eat larger portions of fish and aren't on an unlimited budget there's cheaper ways to do it than fresh fish from Waitrose.

If I was spending that much on a fish based meal, I'd be buying fish and chips from the fish and chip shop, so about £6 for a ready cooked portion of fish and chips that is definitely enough to serve two unless very big eaters so better value than a small amount of plain cod from Waitrose.

rc22 · 30/08/2020 08:36

Yes definitely two portions.

Oldraver · 30/08/2020 09:16

I find ready portioned fish stingy. Don't get me started on those silly one inch strips of salmon

We have smoked haddock rarely as I know it costs about £7 for enough for the three of us

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/08/2020 09:17

Yes. Nice normal sized portions.
