Would this be two portions in your house?

If you look at the per portion calories each piece is about 95g. The NHS recommends a portion of fish is 140g in weight.

Would this pack feed two people in your house? DH and I are in disagreement.

Definitely two portions, presuming you are having veg and carbs... So as the protein part of a meal.. Yep fine.

Or if making a fish curry for example that would do three people in my house

SleepingStandingUp · 29/08/2020 21:24

It depends as well what you're having it with. That and a few veggies you'd need more per portion than with a sauce, potatoes and veg for example

bengalcat · 29/08/2020 21:24

Yes it would feed two with some for the cats .

I would feed myself, DH, and 2 primary school aged DCs with that, but with some starch (rice, potatoes or pasta) and lots of veggies on top. And probably a bit of seeds, nuts or pulses for extra proteins.

JoJoSM2 · 29/08/2020 21:25

I’d buy it to feed DH and DS who’s 2 with DH eating about 180g.

Left it his own devices, DH would easily eat the lot by himself but he’s 6ft4 and has averagely sizes breakfast and lunch so tends to have huge dinners.

PaperMonster · 29/08/2020 21:26

I’m low carb and I don’t think I could eat both of them in one meal. Deffo two portions.

ZolaGrey · 29/08/2020 21:26

It would, but unless you're deep frying it in lard, it won't do you any harm to eat both if you're hungry. Better two piece of fish than one and a significantly larger amount of potatoes.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/08/2020 21:28

DH thinks its a ridiculously small portion for a main meal in a day when he's allowed 2000 calories

But that's not all he will eat, surely? Add in potatoes (in butter), a creamy sauce and a big pile of green veg and that's a decent meal.

How has he got 2k cals for one meal? Isn't the daily amount around 2,500?

SisterAgatha · 29/08/2020 21:28

It’s two but I wouldn’t use up my calories on that because I just find it unfilling. I’d pick a stronger fish so that you really tasted every bite!

Ariela · 29/08/2020 21:28

We use that size pack to feed 3.
However, I do serve with VERY generous portions of home grown veg - potatoes, carrots and beans or peas depending what's in, and a home made parsley sauce.

EstuaryBird · 29/08/2020 21:29

That would be 2 portions for me but one for DH.

Out of interest what nuts and seeds would you put with that meal? Sounds a bit weird.

I don't get why mumsnet is always so excited by protein! The daily need for men is 55.5g and woman 45.5g

Apolloanddaphne · 29/08/2020 21:31

I would eat both pieces myself if i was only having that with some salad or vegetables. If I was bulking it out it would serve more. I use 4 pieces of cod that size to make a fish curry for four people.

RedCatBlueCat · 29/08/2020 21:36

Yes. But I'd buy two packets, and give the largest 2 to the adults. DH would probably fry an egg later in the evening tho.

KenAdams · 29/08/2020 21:38

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz the calories refer to daily allowance but the fish would be part of the main meal of the day.

To clarify, the portions aren't 120g each. The website gives 102 cals per 100g of product but the calories of one portion size in the pack as 92 cals ergo the actual weight of one piece of fish as about 90-95g.

nogoodsolution · 29/08/2020 21:39

Definitely for two people.

amysaurus87 · 29/08/2020 21:40

Yes, 1 piece of fish each and bulk out the meal with chips and veggies

Bwlch · 29/08/2020 21:43

If you can get hold of five loaves as well, it could feed 5000.

It's been done before.

Cheguevarahamster · 29/08/2020 21:44

I think you could get 5,000 portions out of that if you bulk it up with about 5 loaves ..

Tolleshunt · 29/08/2020 21:45

It’s two very restrained (stingy) portions. It should theoretically feed two, but as white fish isn’t very filling, I know DH and I would feel unsatisfied afterwards, regardless of how much veg/carbs we had with it.

As so often happens with supermarket portions, it’s in that annoying zone of being too little for two, but too much for one. It’s annoyingly expensive, as well, which would also put me off buying two packs.

Cheguevarahamster · 29/08/2020 21:46

KenAdams · 29/08/2020 21:47

I'm out of luck - only the one loaf Sad

So I buy, although not any more due to Ocado, that exact item nearly every week. I buy one pack for DH and 1 pack for DC and I.

It’s difficult because my DH certainly eats a larger portion size than is recommended but I don’t see how a ‘Recommended portion size’ can be the same for all. My DH is 6ft5 and can’t keep weight on let alone be overweight!

The only reason I would cut him down to a pack between the two of us is expense.

PickAChew · 29/08/2020 21:48

It's a 240g pack and dh and I would share a pack. Might even share 2 packs between us and Ds2, depending on how I was preparing it. Looks like 95g is the cooked weight, anyhow.
