Do you like it? I haven’t got one and have always felt slightly deprived!

Jean. Hated it when I was younger until my mum told me it was after a friend of hers who was killed, along with her whole family, when a bomb dropped on their house during the war. Now I’m proud to have it.

JustanotherTuesday · 29/08/2020 20:42

Mine is hideous, my first name is even worse. They are both biblical names and I hate them both,

grannyjacob · 29/08/2020 20:43

Elizabeth, after my maternal G'mother and I much prefer it to my first name which is a feminine form of my Dad's name. Like someone already said, I would love to be a Liz or even a Lizzie, both of which my Gran was known by.

midsomermurderess · 29/08/2020 20:45

Another without one. I have never missed not having one. I had a very unusual first name so there was not need for differentiation either. My name went through a rather astonishing rise in popularity in recent years.

Stopyourhavering64 · 29/08/2020 20:46

Mine is my mother's maiden name - I'm Scottish and it was common when I was born many years ago to have this family connection
I've maintained this tradition with my dcs

Biglumpycustard · 29/08/2020 20:48

My middle name is the same as my mum’s, I was born in 81. It’s June and I hate it.

CrackersDontMatter · 29/08/2020 20:50

Mine is also Ann. I love it.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 29/08/2020 20:52

Moira - my dad’s Irish Mum. My DH doesn’t have a middle name as my MIL thinks “they are for city people”

We live in a city - our 3 Dds have middle names (one of them has a hyphen)

Scruffymac · 29/08/2020 20:53

Maire like every other Irish woman of a certain age 😂

Serena1977 · 29/08/2020 20:53

I haven't got one, my dh has and he hates it.

NameChange84 · 29/08/2020 20:53

I love mine. It’s very chic, French and has a very beautiful “virtue” meaning. I like my first name too but my middle name is more unusual. There’s a famous person with the same name but apart from her I’ve not come across anyone irl with the same name.

LongPauseNoReply · 29/08/2020 20:55

Mine is Monica after my Mum’s best friend who is also my godmother Grin

Immigrantsong · 29/08/2020 20:55

I don't have one. We don't have them in my culture. Just name and surname. And surnames don't ever change after marriage. So you stay with your name and surname from birth till death. I love it.

Chocchoc2020 · 29/08/2020 20:55

Louise here too 🤣

hairyfrogfish · 29/08/2020 20:57

My middle name is Kate, from Taming of the Shrew. Much more appropriate for shrewish me as a first name. Maybe I'll change it...

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 29/08/2020 20:58

I was born in the early 80s so obviously its Louise Grin. I neither love nor hate it.

My Mum and Grandma had the same middle name, which was my Great-Grandmothers first name. I hate that my parents didn't continue the tradition and I've not had a DD to pass it on to.

DS1 has 2 middle names after 2 of his Great Grandfathers.
DS2 only has 1 which is the name of a much loved friend, and DS1's Godfather who passed away. My pg with DS2 was dated from the day he died Sad

x2boys · 29/08/2020 21:01

I do think middle name,s are a nice way to honour much loved family members even if you don't particularly want to use it as a first name and as I said I gave my Ds1 my dad's first name ,as his middle name Dh gave ds2 his first name as ds2 middle name as he has no relationship with his dad if ds2 had been a girl he would have had Dh,s mums first name but a derivative of it( she died before we were married ) and my mum's name as a middle name .

ciaralily · 29/08/2020 21:02

Another Louise here 😂

Chicchicchicchiclana · 29/08/2020 21:03

don't have one!

Laska2Meryls · 29/08/2020 21:04

Both my first and middle name have just featured in the 'Names that will never ever come back' thread!! .. But I actually really like them both ..

My middle name is the real name of a very famous 1960s fashion icon. I was teased about it at school because it would do for either a boy or girl, but I'd be happy to have it as my first name now.

LioneIRichTea · 29/08/2020 21:04

Alys, it’s a nod to my Welsh heritage.

rottiemum88 · 29/08/2020 21:04

Jean, after both of my grandmas. Hated it with a passion growing up, I used to tell people it was Jane instead. Not so bothered now, though still don't use it

EggyPegg · 29/08/2020 21:14

@SockQueen

Elizabeth, like half of all girls born in the 80s it seems. Also my mum's name. Quite like it, though as it's so common it's nothing exciting.
Also Elizabeth. But mine is because it's also my Nan's middle name. My Nan was born in 1934, and her first name is very of that time, so my parents went with her middle name instead and I am forever grateful. I don't have any great feelings towards it one way or another. It's rarely used!

DH doesn't have a middle name. I always think his name looks a bit short and final without one. MIL hasn't got one either. Nor BIL.

DS1 has FILs middle name (in the same way my Nan has a name of her time, FIL had one of his, but his middle name was classic).
DS2 has a middle name with no significance, just one that I love that went well with his first name (which has significance).

I was born early 80s and most girls at school were Claire, Sarah and Emma, with the middle names Louise and Jane interchangeable. In fact I know a sibling set that's Claire Louise and Sarah Jane. So Elizabeth always felt more original.

RosieLemonade · 29/08/2020 21:15

Mine is a very popular middle name. Especially with girls born in the early 90s. My DD’s is my beloved grandparents surname which is also a girls first name. They both died before she was born and they would have doted on her so I’m pleased she’s included.

EggyPegg · 29/08/2020 21:16

Twiggy? I know people of both sexes with her real name (my aunt being one).
