I don't think teacher will volunteer for the job

The good ones know it is not their call

The ones that would - won't because it would mean getting close to a child and a child who almost certainly has COVID and they are not risking getting COVID because it would kill them because the virus hates teachers

It's my daughters birthday on bank holiday Monday. She suggested we went out for something to eat. Lunchtime and keep 'nibbling' and ordering bits and bobs through the whole afternoon.

I don't think she has grasped what this is all about. She works for a uni and their bar is open - with no students around as yet - and has been able to enjoy the cheap food and drinks all month.

Willow2017 sounds exhausting
It really is. Now to run yourself ragged for 7 hrs a day.

We can't understand why we are now allowed to put sugar out on the dumb waiter but salt and pepper, sauce sachets, milk pots and napkins are not allowed so we have to get them for customers so everything takes twice asking plus you serve them their meal and its "Oh can you just get me some ketchup, mayo etc?" Yes because you can see how fast we are running around with trays of food I have nothing else planned...I have started asking them to come up to.the counter as it can be 3 times a table as "they forgot the hp sauce too".
And if one more person asks me where one of thier plates of food is when i have just carried a tray with 5 different things piled on it... one of these days I will crack.and say "Sorry I can't balance it on my fucking head" 🤣🤣😠

Justasking
Yep no bloody patience. We make it very clear the waiting time and they agree yet are asking where their foid is 10 minutes before the wait time.😠 or "I just want a bacon butty can't you do it for me now," feck off there are 10 tables in front of you go home and make yourself one!"

Willow2017 · 24/08/2020 23:31

Twice as long ffs!

justasking111 · 24/08/2020 23:36

I shall eat out Thursday to Sunday if I want to eat thus avoiding them. A friend of DH rich as Croesus is bragging about only eating out on Rishi days. OH wanted to brain him and throw him overboard on a sailing trip last week.

Willow2017 · 24/08/2020 23:58

Justasking
Some places are doing it all day every day...just to get the punters in
guess what mine is doing?😄😄

We have a holiday camp well several in the area so they are 'flocking ours for family dinners for £5 as we do free kids meals too. Then complain they are in a hurry to get back to the camp when they have to wait.

Afternoon can feck off i think our staff would mutiny! The cooks must be doing 200 meals a day they are seriously knackered.

HeIenaDove · 25/08/2020 00:24

To all those working in hospitality Flowers Wine I dont go to restaurants but if i did i would be patient and treat the workers in them with respect. And id tip Because you all work bloody hard. Plus an evening out or lunch out in a restaurant is supposed to be an occasion surely. It involves soaking up the atmos and savouring the food. Not barking at waiting staff like they are skivvies and wolfing down food like you are in a Man V Burger competition.

Ive never worked as a waitress but ive done retail and Christmas in retail. THERE ISNT TIME TO FART! I know hospitality will be the same possibly even harder

Willow2017 · 25/08/2020 00:47

HelenaDove
Thanks.
I did get told by a customer after 2 particularly impatient tables that we were working like Trojans and were doing brill in the circumstances which did make a difference.

I have worked in bog standard cafes and we got loads in tips. Nobody ever tips in a supermarket cafe!

Yeah retail is just mental in the run up to Xmas isn't it? And in Feb March this year it was repeated 10 times over. £300 shopping was not umcommon! When we were rationing stuff like eggs some bloke had boxes and boxes of eggs came to about 70+ WTF do you need all those eggs for?? He was most put out when i told him 1 box of 12 or 15 per person 😃😃😃😃

@DobbyTheHouseElk

What are people waiting for? When do they think it will be “safe” to come out of their houses.
That's the million dollar question @DobbyTheHouseElk.

@Willow2017 randomly I've a cousin with a restaurant in Greece. She has said that this year the tourists are so impatient and demanding bordering on rude (we saw this whenever we ate out anywhere there and some of them were awful) She thought that given everything everyone would have gone through to get there, they may have been more laid back, or at least seemed happy to be there.

we've used the eat out scheme a couple of times as there is a local restaurant that I love but its a bit pricey so we treated ourselves. I know that they will be working to restrictive rules and staff levels and are really busy so I just order my food, eat, pay and go. If it takes longer, well, that's what happens in a busy restaurant so I just order another drink and chat to my family while I wait. I also always tip as I know many of the staff are running ragged and most probably haven't worked for a huge chunk of the year. I know my contribution won't make much difference (for instance last bill was 32 quid so just rounded up to 40) but I guess its something. Your poor DD though. I suspect arseholeness is now just something that's become the norm.

110APiccadilly · 25/08/2020 07:48

Morning all. I have the gym booked for later (has only just reopened). Sounds like there will be a lot of messing about with masks and so on but I think it will be worth it - it had a huge impact on how I feel. (Gooes off grumbling about politicians who want us to be healthier and who also close gyms for a protracted period...)

ISaySteadyOn · 25/08/2020 07:51

I don't get this being rude to staff thing. We've eaten out a few times and it is such a treat. We wait happily, talk to each other and thoroughly enjoy our food. And there is no washing up or boxes to dispose of either. Why be rude to people who give you that chance?

Thanks, @Willow2017 for what you do and I am sorry people are nasty to you.

110APiccadilly · 25/08/2020 07:55

I've never understood being rude to staff - apart from ordinary human decency, chances are the person you're shouting at has no more say about the thing you're angry over than you do.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/08/2020 08:00

I’ve asked friends who are still at home and not leaving the house, when do you think it’s ok to come out? They say they have to stay til the virus has gone.

I’ve tried showing the rates of infection in the area we live 0-3 people test positive. They say but what of someone runs up to us on a walk and breathes in our face???

Mental health has taken a hit for everyone, but for some it’s still March.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/08/2020 08:00

I reckon we will get the scary footage from hospitals again soon. Control the masses by fear.

Dollybagwash · 25/08/2020 08:02

Just updating! Negative result so we are going away tomorrow! So exciting. Now to run about like a nutter today to get everything done as I refused to incase I couldn't go 😂

SomewhereEast · 25/08/2020 08:06

Not in any way trying to justifying people being arseholes, but I think lots of people are in a state of constant low level stress at the moment. Its the sense that nothing can ever be spontaneous or straightforward. I feel like everyone is frustrated and subconciously looking for a punchbag.

ISaySteadyOn · 25/08/2020 08:15

Good luck, Dolly!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/08/2020 08:17

Morning all. Pissing rain here today, but I'm actually feeling ok. DH has been called into work for two weeks from today, so I won't have him moping around the house for a bit. He's really struggling with the whole aimlessness of it all, I think the routine of work and being away from kids for a few hours a day will be a big help. Not that he was particularly pleased about it all at 6.30 this morning when his alarm was ringing! The rain gives me a good excuse to let the dds spend all day in PJ's in front of the TV, plus we had a day out yesterday (got Castle Howard membership when they reopened and have used it a crazy amount since) which alleviates my mum-guilt.

Two week countdown to back to school is helping too. Dd's school sent out their return info and it all looks fine - not much more than staggered drop offs, parents drop off at the fire doors for each classroom rather than the normal overcrowded main entrances (fine by me!). The school were good during lockdown and during the few weeks DD went back as a year 1 at the end of term so trusting them with this next bit at the moment.

Sympathy to anyone working on hospitality right now. People who are rude to bar and restaurant staff are just idiots - why piss off the people who are in literal spitting distance of your food?!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/08/2020 08:18

WTF??

BogRollBOGOF · 25/08/2020 08:27

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

They say but what of someone runs up to us on a walk and breathes in our face???

WTF??

That would explain the surgical style mask being worn in the woods yesterday. Wink The guy was fairly young. I could credit him with possibly being newly deshielded... but isn't it that the masks prevent you from blowing out the virus not getting it? So still not logical. Plus it won't protect you from the squirrels shaking acorns down on to your head which is currently the main hazard in there. Since they came out in shops/ public venues I have seen less being worn in random low-risk spaces.

The stormy beach was a winner though. All the nasty virus whooshing over from the Gulf of Mexici in all that sea water.

WouldBeGood · 25/08/2020 08:41

I quite like a stormy beach.

I’m off for another Rishi tonight (sorry, @Willow2017!) If it’s any consolation I tip on the “real” bill. And made a resolution when things started opening that I would never be nippy with staff anywhere as shops and restaurants are just trying to do their best in a mad world.

WouldBeGood · 25/08/2020 08:42

@Dollybagwash great news.. enjoy, and report on wedding news, do love a bit of cheer and romance.

Bollss · 25/08/2020 08:46

Morning ADs. Absolutely bloody miserable here. Decided to drive ds the 2 min drive to nursery rather than walk and we still got frigging soaked. Will be soaked again by the time I get to work as I have to park miles away. Fab!

Just so fed up with everything. Want to sell up and go by a derelict chateau a la dick and angel and live in peace. Neighbours are sooooo noisy and they're driving me mad. Their children are feral, and whilst I totally understand and sympathise, and during the day don't mind the noise but why, dear lord, why are they not in bed before midnight ever?!

Send help!

Willow2017 · 25/08/2020 09:01

They say but what of someone runs up to us on a walk and breathes in our face???
Did this normally happen regularly? Randoms running up and accosting them in the street just to breath on thier faces? Wtf?
They may as well stay in forever all those other germs out thier being breathed out by selfish weirdos😄

Thanks ISay the majority if people are ok some are even nice! Just the asshats that stand out for thier ignorance. "I could cater for 400 in the time its taking (20 minutes) you lot" I really want to say "come on then let's see how long you last back there" 🤣🤣🤣

Bucketing rain, have optician appoint but will miss out on my coffee and book read as ds1 wants to come and get some shopping. Quick sprint round work will do i think.
