@TheOrchidKiller
your safety measures simply do not go far enough. What we all need to do is die a non-covid death, immediately. How many dead people have died of Covid, huh? That's right, NONE. ZERO. Being dead is the best way to avoid sadly dying. The numbers don't lie.

^ Brilliant! Grin

The closed toilets or only one toilet open thing is weird. John Lewis & M&S have all theirs open. No strange one-way systems, no queue monitor. Customers are trusted to use the facilities as normal.

I deliberately shop there because of this (& because I like Percy Pigs). I'M DOOMED!!

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 26/08/2020 11:29

I live in a 3 storey bungalow.

I built a new house in the garden of my old one. It is on quite a steep slope and was originally designed as a bungalow with underfloor storage, accessed from outside on the lower side. The plans underwent a metamorphosis and it ended up single storey at the front and 2 storey at the back, so from the entry level I go downstairs to the kitchen/lounge and upstairs to the bedroom. Hence a 3 storey bungalow.

Just had to take a deep breathe off the phone from elderly neighbour (taking her shopping order as I get some bits for her in ours).."It's all the young people passing it about" she keeps saying.

Other people's emotions and anxiety can be quite wearing at times..

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 26/08/2020 11:38

@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind I think the giant doctor would be most disappointed in you and your dishonest bungalow.

flower11 · 26/08/2020 11:43

@DominaShantotto Hope your dd has a speedy recovery.

My ds split his chin open first week of lockdown. Luckily he did it on a day I was going to work ( work for NHS ) I got a steristrip kit from treatment room and sorted him out myself, following a utube video on my phone!

He has a scar to remember lockdown by.

Pixel7777 · 26/08/2020 11:58

Hope didn't sound unkind to neighbour but they have just been abroad themselves and had to quarantine (Spain) which they didn't do (went to shops etc) but apparently that is all ok as 'wearing a mask' (which seems to be the new answer to everything)..it just gets frustrating listening to people blame others when they themselves need to just look at their own risks...

TheOrchidKiller · 26/08/2020 12:22

Other people's emotions and anxiety can be quite wearing at times..

I've found that too. It's hard because some of those people & the relationships we have with them are worth a lot & it's not worth falling out over.

I think you do have to set some boundaries though. I was briefly a bit less available on the phone when it felt like I was being a sponge for other people's worries. It helps to be able to empathise at the time but to have an outlet for yourself, like unloading on here.

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2020 12:23

I’m loving all the safety advice here today. 😃

Taking a long hard look at myself through the eyes of Giant Doctor...

Pixel7777 · 26/08/2020 12:30

Yes i agree with having boundaries, I only speak once a week on the phone to said neighbour, and try and stick to e.g. weather.

All we can really do is be ourselves, make our own decisions and get on with it really, I suppose. And maybe have a laugh at the dafter things..

DominaShantotto · 26/08/2020 13:11

Oh DD2 is fine in herself - it's only the fact that she's naturally such a stoic little creature and doesn't make a fuss about anything but she was clearly holding her hand slightly carefully and saying it was sore that made us worry and get her checked since she'd been swinging off the climbing frame after doing it. I've emailed school to let them know (figured they'd appreciate the heads up knowing in advance) and the class teacher's reply is "oh dear - not what she needs starting a new school bless her"

She's gone off out with grandparents to spend her accumulated pocket money at the toy shop and go to the park though so she's quite happy and was just working out how to play Animal Crossing one handed!

TheOrchidKiller · 26/08/2020 13:24

They are surprisingly stoic & resourceful, @Domina. DS broke his arm in year 3 or 4 & was advised not to do any PE or sport. On the way out of his final fracture clinic appointment I said, "That's good, the doctor says you can play football again now," & he confessed that he'd been sneakily joining in all along, when the teacher /supervisor on duty was distracted!
@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind I think the giant doctor would be most disappointed in you and your dishonest bungalow.
My last house was a true bungalow, I lived there for 20 years. I am definitely fitter here for having stairs to go up and down on a regular basis - and my balance has improved. ... So I'm more likely to end up falling off a ladder 😁 which would definitely upset the giant doctor.

@Pixel7777 You were definitely not being unreasonable. Far to much reliance on the non magic mask. The more the youngsters spread it amongst themselves the quicker we get herd immunity - all they have to do is avoid mixing with the young people involved.

"Other people's emotions and anxiety can be quite wearing at times.."

Oh, goodness yes. After spending about 90 minutes with a friend who I'd had to drag out of her house for the first time in 6 weeks (on our previous meeting) and have her turn every topic round to how uniquely awful and dangerous Covid is and nobody's-being-careful-enough etc, etc, I gently remarked along the lines of yes, but I thought it important to take responsibility for our own emotions and take care not to wind up nervous people. She's no more vulnerable than I am and a few years younger.

I've not heard from her since. Oh well, one more off the Christmas card list.

Pixel7777 · 26/08/2020 14:34

I have used visualisation in the past and it can help a bit - I imagine the stress and anxiety and sensationalism as a big cloud floating away

and any thoughts about the virus I label them and imagine them going into a red balloon

I do this as well with things like money worries, that is a blue balloon (calming)

Sounds nuts but anything to help it all swamping you...

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 26/08/2020 14:36

Other people's emotions and anxiety can be quite wearing at times.."

That is so true that's partly why I hate the be nice stuff - as putting boundaries in is often interpreted as not being kind even when not doing so has a mental cost.

Can also make things worse pandering- the phone call immediately upon getting somewhere to my family I had to stop - there were often other things needing attention and couldn't get off phone then started morphed into why hadn't I rung earlier as it they assumed it wouldn't take that long and then I was lying if I instead it had. Now they get a phone call later when convient even next day or later and seem happy to get one.

DominaShantotto hope your DD2 continues to be okay and heals quixkly and avoids and further mishaps.

DominaShantotto · 26/08/2020 15:39

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath DD2 avoiding mishaps is never going to happen - the kid is jinxed (and dyspraxic as hell)! I'm amazed she's made it this long without breaking something other than ornaments to be honest!

DD1 has egg on her face from telling her sister she was making it up though!

DH's working from home is getting on my tits no end this week - they go through periods of wanting to keep the team atmosphere up - where they sit with a voice call open and running all day. I get to hear the annoying half-conversation from him, but then his boss has a really loud voice so I get to hear her for hours as well - and then you've got the ones who leave their camera on all day so we get the view of them eating their breakfast. And if he doesn't stop complaining about one colleague I'm going to kill him.

No one gives a shit about how intrusive WFH in the corner of the lounge is for the other family members!

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 26/08/2020 16:00

When DS had a cast on his hand they warned us in the hospital he' may be even more accident prone for a bit - as that was their experience of many of their young patients they'd often see them very shortly back again it was like they were even more unbalanced with casts or maybe just sods law in action.

I can't get DS or DD1 even looked at for dyspraxia - I was diagnosed durring a dsylexia assesment in early 20s at University with dyspraxia as well. My family looked down some signs list and said - well that was all you as a a child.

I really think both have it though interestingly I recently read on here it's often assoiated with hypermobility in joints - which again we show mild signs of - joint popping slightly out of sockets is common as are ankle sprains. It's not enough of an issue for the GP to be interested in though.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 26/08/2020 16:02

Wales going with face masks in communal areas in schools. Sad

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 26/08/2020 16:09

Coronavirus: Wearing of face masks up to Welsh schools to decide

Schools and councils will be required to decide if face coverings are needed to be worn by pupils in communal areas and on school transport, the Welsh Government has said.

I'm not sure what the school will require yet.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 26/08/2020 16:14

My son's (who has been working from my spare bedroom from the start because home internet wasn't good enough) boss sounds just like Jeremy Clarkson. His voice booming out intermittently from by spare room I can well do without.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 26/08/2020 16:59

@DominaShantotto I've just realised that in all my twatting about with silly posts I forgot to wish your DD a speedy recovery! Blush

There's a thread on active convos at the moment about someone not doing social distancing right in a cafe. I steeled myself for reading lots of sympathy and righteousness, but lo! The first ten posts are all taking the piss. Brilliant.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 26/08/2020 17:23

Domina hope your DD figures out one faves animal crossing and had a speedy recovery.

I like to live dangerously, my right slipper has nearly sent me he first down the stairs on multiple occasions. The risk makes me feel alive 😂 Although I'd be sad to not sadly die if it did kill me.

Seems like masks required for secondary schools here.

Taswama · 26/08/2020 17:29

I'm wondering if it is worth me emailing the head at DS1's school saying I hope they will not be enforcing face masks as our local rate is incredibly low so I think it would do more harm than good, I'm worried he will get emails from dementor parents and be swayed by them. He has seemed pretty sensible so far.

I think a lot of these measures are only happening because of the very vocal terrified drowning out more measured responses.
