I'm divorcing DH soon and hoping to just change my name to something I like. I've been saddled with his since the age of 18 Smile

What's your favourite surname? I think I might go with 'Knight'

I once dated someone called Devine. Was glad to get rid of him but disappointed not to get his surname as my married name!

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/08/2020 23:04

@midwifeync

I quite like Spencer... Lady Spencer! Sounds faaancy
Well Princess Diana was Lady Diana Spencer.

Fox is great - easy to remember; quite near the start of the alphabet ( if that matters for being chosen for things); good, if you go into business, to illustrate for a logo or make part of a company name ( 'sea fox:, 'the baking fox').

Aldridge is nice too.

We shunted our surnames together, so we're the only two people in the world with our surname!

Davros · 23/08/2020 23:08

I like:
King
Best
Cotton
Smart
Bowler

@JanewaysBun - that saying is exactly why I mentioned the name.

The right way, the wrong way and the Janeway! Perfection. Grin

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/08/2020 23:12

Carmichael
I went to school with a Carmichael but they pronounced it Cami-shell.
I also went on school with a Winterbottom, who insisted it was pronounced Winter-botham.
So, in the spirit of unconventional pronunciations, why not go for Featherstonehaugh (Fanshawe)?

Mollscroll · 23/08/2020 23:14

I used to know a Davenport. Lovely. Just the right amount of posh Grin

xanthippe8 · 23/08/2020 23:15

Oh dear, I've gone completely off subject, my fave surname would be Godbehere, and I'm a heretic!

lampshadery · 23/08/2020 23:17

Love Cavendish! Also:

Calverly
Evans
Williams
Edwards
Fitzwilliam

Don't have any reasons for any of them, just like the way they sound!

amieejust · 23/08/2020 23:20

Beauchamp
Porteous
Flavell
Powell
Strachan

Huggins
Goggins
Diamond
I know a Rainbow-Diamond and I am twisted with envy.

cherryblossommorningstoday · 23/08/2020 23:26

Definitely Valentine!

I always wanted to meet a 'Mr Valentine'!

DuaneBenziesvoice · 23/08/2020 23:26

If I could choose, I'd have Montgomery, it brings a certain something to every forename.

I worked with someone who's surname was Lovely. And she was.
And I went to school with someone who had the surname Phoenix which I always thought was pretty cool and superhero-ish

SavageBeauty73 · 23/08/2020 23:28

Hope

ozymandiusking · 23/08/2020 23:34

Carrington, St.Clare

Clevererthanyou · 23/08/2020 23:38

Fortescue - Smythe, I know someone with a cat called this and it makes me smile.

PercyKirke · 23/08/2020 23:42

Digweed. There's a village churchyard a couple of miles from where we live that's full of them. Still going, DS was at school with the latest generation of them.

Somethingkindaoooo · 23/08/2020 23:44

Didn't "Fitz" names designate illegitimacy?
So Bob Fitzwilliam was the illegitimate son of William

Somethingkindaoooo · 23/08/2020 23:45

Ps

Love your idea of changing your surname. I always hated that my surname was my dad's ( we didn't get on), and his dad's ( a drunk who left the family)

RAOK · 23/08/2020 23:57

I like Taylor. I like alliterative names so many a surname that starts with the same letter as your first name. McElhone is my favourite surname of all time.

SidesteppinTheRona · 24/08/2020 00:40

I like my Eastern European married name... I like to be thought of as forrin!

But if I had to pick a new one, it’d be Gillespie. I’ve always loved Gillespie.
