Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Helgathehairy · 20/08/2020 12:46

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

@Cornishmendoitdrekkly

I would like to join too please. I have already started to improve my eating as I put on a stone in lockdown which rather added to the 2 stone I already had to lose. So my goals are:
  1. Lose 2 stone
  2. Do some kind of exercise every day including walking workout for over 50s that I found on You Tube.
  3. Resist purchasing anything I don't really need as finances need improvement.
  4. Defuzz my legs every week rather than waiting until they poke through my tights.
  5. Moisturiser EVERY night even if I am tired and use handceam too
  6. Learn to say NO to various relatives who think I am the best carer for my DM although they don't work and could commit to giving me one weekend a month off....but won't.
  7. Put £1 a day into a pot that will be for me to buy a new Christmas outfit which will make me look and feel on top of the world .
  8. Say something positive to my reflection every day that helps me to believe I am worth the effort

I am sending positive thoughts to all of you and am looking forward to sharing our progress Smile

@Cornishmendoitdrekkly I loved reading your list. Have you tried Leslie Sansome walking videos on Youtube? They are great. Good luck and you are definitely worth it Flowers
lemonlimelemonlime · 23/08/2020 06:44

@BakewellGin1
I've been trying to walk more and on days when the weather is rubbish or whatever, I've been using Leslie Sansome Walking videos on Youtube. She's got videos ranging from 15 minutes to an hour and the 15 minutes are equivalent to a mile. It's basically walking on the spot with some extra moves and you only need a small space to do it. I've been getting 10k steps a day daily by doing her videos, I just whack on a 15-minute one when my steps are low and I have the time to spare. They've really helped.

lemonlimelemonlime · 23/08/2020 06:55

I'm in too, please! I desperately need to lose the weight that I piled on while my Thyroid problem was undiagnosed. It's now or never, so going to be brutal.

  • Fast (one meal a day)
  • Drink more water
  • Sort out feet
  • Mani/Pedi weekly
  • Sort out Eyebrows
  • Les Mills 3 times a week. Weights 3 times a week
  • 10,000 steps daily
  • Work on my course
  • No alcohol
  • Pelvic floor daily with my TENS
  • Track on MFP
  • 1400 calories Maximum
  • Exfoliate twice weekly.
kitschplease · 23/08/2020 07:51

I'm in!

TurnOffTheTv · 23/08/2020 08:11

Woke up hungover AGAIN. Count me in.

I feel like I’ve lost 6 months eating crap and drinking too much and not exercising enough.

I could have used this time to become a fit and healthy and look after myself but it all went a bit to shit 🤦‍♀️

So!

  • 100 days sober challenge
  • I need to lose the stone I’ve put on so 100 days is roughly 14 weeks, 1lb seems doable Right?
  • Some form of exercise every day (running/yoga/Chloe Ting 10min workouts)
  • Start doing my TeamTOMM app everyday again
  • Fast800 for two days a week
  • Paint my nails every Sunday night
  • Turn my phone off by 10pm every night. My phone usage is off the charts at the moment, about 5 hours average a day, need to rectify this.
  • Herbal tea and book before bed
  • Check in here everyday with an update and meal plan for the day and weigh ins

Day 100

10st 3

B- yogurt/nuts/blueberries
L- chicken salad
D- beef casserole and veg

Good luck everyone!

Carriemac · 23/08/2020 08:11

I’m in - still on hols though so easing myself in gently. I start a new job September 1st , mostly WFH so when I go in I’m aiming to dress smartly and look groomed.
I’m considering buying a Dyson hairdryer, should save some money in blow drys but It’s so pricey...
Eyelashes and eyebrows booked for Tuesday .

Onthebrink67 · 23/08/2020 08:19

Ok my list is:
1.walk 10,000 steps a day

  1. Moisturise my face every night and my body after showering
3 Do one bit of extra housework a day- eg decluttering a drawer or cleaning the oven 4 Do yoga 5 times a week 5 Floss daily 6 Make sure the general waste and green waste are always full when they are collected as that means I have kept up with the weeding and decluttering. 7 Eat healthy foods that are nutrient dense most of the time but not get put off by the odd snack.
OverTheRainbow88 · 23/08/2020 08:21

Eek I’m going to have to start this afternoon, totally forgot I’m booked in for a bottomless brunch this morning!!

IdblowJonSnow · 23/08/2020 08:29

Roll on September.
I'm looking fwd to clean and tidy house that stays that way.
Getting to the charity shop with decluttered items!
Being able to get nails and brows done easily. Going for long daily solo walks.
Getting on with my retraining.
Kids have been brilliant but I think they will love being back at school. Smile

toomanyhobbies · 23/08/2020 09:00

I’m in if not too late. I too need to loose weight a stone off by 01/12/20 would be a great start. I also want the house sorted and organised by Christmas would also like to do some decorating but don’t want to overwhelm myself. Been working through lockdown from home currently off for the school holidays. My list is

  1. Walk to and from school everyday (only live a 15 min walk away, 5min drive, but this so going to be hard always try and justify driving as I need to get other bits done)
  2. Loose a stone
  3. Swim/gym at least twice a week
  4. Cut take aways to once 2/3weeks
  5. Drink more water
  6. Stop the fizzy drinks once the ones in the house have gone.
  7. Sort all rooms out so don’t have a mad dash when people due round
  8. Body moisturise every day (This will help with decluttering as have loads to use up)
  9. Face mask at least once a week.
10. Stop forgetting to take medication and get back to taking it daily may actually make me feel better and take vitamins daily too. 11. Do an hour a week in the garden come rain or shine (aim to have a lovely garden for next summer trying to achieve this in the summer as I normal do doesn’t work) 12. Start and stick to TOMM 13. Finish some of the crochet and knitting projects. 14. Reading to and listening to my Ds reading everyday. 15. Get organised with dates and appointments. 16. De fuzz legs every week. 17. Actually do some scrap booking and use all the things and picture I’ve got for it. Setting aside 1/2 a week for this would be good. 18. Decide and start On the Christmas crochet makes so they are done in time.

We had friends over Yesterday and the playroom and Ds room needs sorting. Going to do that today so am ahead for starting TOMM again on Monday.

I also like the idea of writing lists and I have started this need to keep on with it and not get disheartened when I don’t get it all done.

I’m hoping by keeping myself busy at home instead of lazing around will help with weight loss. Trying to drink when I fancy a snack instead of eating and doing things either housework or hobbies to also stop the snaking.

toomanyhobbies · 23/08/2020 09:02

My aims for today

  1. Tidy playroom
  2. Change beds
3 clear spare bed (Ds has a cold and maybe needed by DH if DS is up again tonight). 4) Tidy living room 5) tidy DS room 6) charge Fitbit so can start counting steps 7) face mask 8) legs 9)wash hair 10) ironing away.

Will check back late with how I and doing

Meh2020 · 23/08/2020 09:17

@TurnOffTheTvdod
You sign up for the Fast 800?

Thanks

Murraymintal · 23/08/2020 09:22

This thread is just what I need- I’m joining you all if that’s okay.
Today is exactly 100 days to December 1st according to OP so a great day to start!

I’m on the late shift at work today so won’t have that much time but my first aim is to come up with at least an outline of a plan by the end of today.

I know my first aim- avoid the free chocolate bars and crisps at work today- choose the fruit instead (also free but always neglected).

melissasummerfield · 23/08/2020 09:27

Me too please if its not too late! I feel like I haven't achieved much this year but think i can still turn that around!

1 weight loss - no specific target as I have a lot to lose, have restarted my gym membership and met with a really great personal trainer who i start training with on Wednesday

2 eat proper meals, lots of fruit and veg

3 Commit to getting decent sleep, going to bed on time

4 reduce my screen time - I spend way too much time staring at my phone

5 overhaul my finances - i waste so much money at the moment and have very little in savings

6 stay on top of the housework - house is clean but i feel like i could be more organised

7 resume my Italian lessons

8 start a qualification that I have found that will improve my CV

I think thats enough for now Grin

Capsulate · 23/08/2020 09:36

I've just bought myself a (cheap version of) a Fitbit, inspired by this thread. Really hope it helps motivate me to do some more exercise!

About to head off for a big walk now.

LilyLolo81 · 23/08/2020 09:44

Can I join please, I’m determined to make some changes before December. Starting with sorting our finances (attending and online investments workshop on Tuesday), finishing clearing out and decorating the house (we have been renovating the place for bloody forever and I’m so fed up I want to sell up), get rid of the hormonal weight gain from changing pill (I run but I’m definitely not doing it enough and my new Garmin watch has highlighted I’m not active enough in a day to day basis despite having a toddler to run about after). I think that’s probably enough for now, I’ll leave the cutting down on alcohol goal for later Grin

Helgathehairy · 23/08/2020 09:48

Today is the day!

DAY 100

But it's never too late to join in!

Personally I'm not doing much today. Tomorrow is my 9 year wedding anniversary so there's half a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge to finish up!

This evening though I'm going to get my 3 year old to pick out her clothes for pre-school tomorrow and figure out what she wants to eat. She's REALLY excited to be going back.

Windyjuly · 23/08/2020 10:05

Great thread op, 100 days is such a lovely round number.
I never wear nice clothes at Xmas I'd love to be able to wear something nice!
I've been good over lock down and have not gained weight, started to exercise more however, bad habits crept in again.

I will put my trainers on to start exercise every day.

Start to do one fast day a week again.

Drink more water.
Have more fresh veg juices.

Finish small sorting projects.

Take vitamin d.

Start to get fitter to fight covid if necessary!!

Ohmyhell · 23/08/2020 10:13

Oh, this is so inspiring. I love the goals so far!

Day 100 for me is going to be tidy and clean the house. Packed the family off to FILs for the day so I can get it sorted. Have already put a load of washing on. I'm halfway through cleaning out the Fridge and Freezer. My focus today is the kitchen.

Long Term over the 100 days I need to focus on 1. The House 2. Money 3. Self Care 4. Organisation 5. Getting Out in the Fresh Air every day regardless of weather.

Walkley18 · 23/08/2020 11:12

So far I have made slimming world pasta dishes for three days and put in the fridge, so I don't keep snacking instead of having a healthy lunch, and finally sorted out my undies and socks drawers! Also finished week 1 of my history course and got all the review questions right!

Karcheer · 23/08/2020 11:18

im definitely in.

im in self isolation for 4 weeks with nothing but myself, house and garden to sort out.

im looking to re-invent my life in 4 weeks. I dislike who i've become.

will think of a list later... but thank you OP this is exactly what i need.

Immigrantsong · 23/08/2020 11:43

I started my day with yoghurt and fruit, instead of toast. Feel less bloated as a result.

Will try some exercise later on.

I aim to eat less and move more. And avoid snacks and too much sugar, which is my Achilles heel.

Wishing you a good luck. We can do this!

SquirrelFan · 23/08/2020 12:01

Already inspired! Cleared out my wardrobe yesterday, now have bags to take to charity shops. Bought a few other dresses at charity shops; could not try them on due to Covid regulations but am allowed to return if not suitable. This is economically and environmentally a win (I think). Went for a walk with DH this morning. Purchased a planner for the academic year, made a hair appointment for Tuesday. Have also purchased red algae clay masque and niacinimide, which is meant to reduce pores. We shall see.

Well done @Walkley18
Have fun @OverTheRainbow88
Love your #7, @Onthebrink67--nutrient dense is key

Good luck everyone!

soloula · 23/08/2020 12:48

I need to get more organised. I used to bullet journal and loved it but found I was taking too much time to make it pretty (I know not essential but I did enjoy it). I also found it inconvenient sometimes - am a SAHM who travels light so taking my journal out and about was a faff.

So - are there any good to do list style apps anyone can recommend to help me get my shit back together? Months of lockdown and nothing to do and I'm struggling to keep track of everything now.

LittleDoritt · 23/08/2020 13:02

I forgot that today was day 100 and had a chocolate croissant for breakfast and a hot dog for lunch That's me in a nutshell really. I'll take my vitamin now though and make the rest of the day as good as I can.
