Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

Not a bad day for me so far.

Like a few pps, I also forgot first thing this morning and dumped a large teaspoon of brown sugar in my Brew, without thinking.

Alright after that though, so feeling quite chuffed with myself, all things considered. I've been so unhealthy lately, so this is great by my standards.

I had leftover chicken, tomatoes avocado and boiled eggs for brunch / breakfast / whatever. Just had some cold ham, fruit and plain greek yoghurt with cashew nuts.

I also did a walk which was exactly 7 km this morning, (my perfectionist side came out, when I turned into my road and Map My Walk said I was on 6.97 km, so I walked around till it got to 7 km Blush).

I also took two huge black bags of clothes, plus a few smaller bags with shoes, to the recycling today, which is great too.

Going to read my book now.

Do any of the novel readers on here have any recommendations? I'm reading Jojo Moyes, The Giver Of Stars at the moment and it's ok so far. Taking me a bit of time to get into it for some reason.

Really enjoyed The Beekeeper of Aleppo and Where The Crawdads Sing. Liked American Dirt a lot too. Can't remember all the authors of those though, sorry.

Day 100! I have made a good start on my tidy house goal by clearing out kitchen cupboards and sorting out recycling. I'm hoping for a decent walk later to get to at least 10k steps today and to do nails and face pack this evening. Need to not pig out, I have put the cookies on a high shelf so its an effort to reach them, I hope that works! Hope everyone has a good 'first day'

Day 100:

Went for a leisurely 1 hour walk before breaking my fast. Doing 12:8 which i find quite easy to do. Not lost any weight yet but definitely feel like I'm having fewer blood sugar spikes.
Opened my fast with a bacon sarnie but you can't win everything.

Got my first haircut of the year booked for tomorrow and I am beyond excited.

I need to flash freeze the blackberries we picked so that they're ready for jam when I manage to buy some jam sugar.

Also need to paint a wall in my bedroom but I seriously cba. Been doing it off and on (mostly off) since March and I'm so bored of it. Massive room, high ceilings and 5ft 4 me on a ladder trying to blend the edges without getting paint on the ceiling. Such a faff.

Can I join in please?

Aims:
1- weight, I'm about 3-3.5 stone over my pre-baby weight. He turned 5 this week Blush
2- exercise. I got to week 4 of couch to 5k and let life take over and didn't stick with it. I want to get back to this and also want to get into yoga, I'm feeling quite stressed just now and hoping it can bring me some calm.
3- house. We've just sold our flat but not found a house yet. I'm decluttering as I start to pack and want my lovely new home to be a nice organised space.

That's all I can think of just now but I'm sure there's more. I'm off to find my Fitbit to charge and make sure I do my 10k steps tomorrow.

Day 100 - have done a tip run. Slowly clearing out all the junk from the house.
Am also sticking to my diet - am doing the Michael Mosely low carb one.
Found a load of clothes I'd thought I'd binned, so have some incentive to carry on with the diet, so as to fit in them. Washed and dried them all today so they can be put away ready.

Day 100 - I did a workout this morning, Team Body Project - Sweatslinger from Youtube. Nice mix of cardio and weights. Nearly completed my 10,000 steps.
I'm doing a 20 hours fast today, felt a bit hungry around lunchtime, but ok now.

Capsulate I enjoyed The Giver of Stars - I just finished it last week. It took me a week or so to really get going and then I loved it, and then felt a bit less keen on the last seventy pages or so. It probably evened out at about four stars out of five Grin

Thanks Littledoritt! I'm a believer in 80:20. Once you're on track of your own goals 80% of the time, the other 20% can look after itself!

Walkley18 You're an inspiration with the meal prep!

Squirrelfan I really rate Niacinimide for helping with my large pores. Where did you get yours from? I'm using The Ordinary at the moment but I'm tempted to try Face Theory when I've used that up.

Soloula I love looking at bullet journals but I've always felt I'm not artistic enough for one myself! I do use a planner though as I really like to write things down to help me remember them.

Capsulate Happy anniversary! I'm not good with novel recommendations unless you're into Agatha Christie, Terry Pratchett or vaguely fantasy/alternate universe type stuff!

Not massively into Terry Pratchett, but I did once meet him at a book signing many years ago. He was lovely. I got him to sign a book for my friend who is a MEGA fan of his. He wrote "to [friend's name] wee big wishes" and signed it. Think he must have spotted me as a non fan, as he said "so, what should I write? Dear eBay buyer Grin"? I laughed. He seemed like an absolutely lovely man.

I don't think I've ever read any Agatha Christie, but I have been known to enjoy an episode or two of Poirot with David Suchet!

Happy anniversary to you too!

Oh I need this too!

Lockdown weight, lockdown hair and eyebrows.... blah blah blah...

My children go back to school this week and I'm not working for a bit so will be able to do a bit of proper distraction free decluttering hopefully. I have a lot of stuff that really could go to the attic as it's not used very often.

Have haircut and colour booked for tomorrow!

  1. Drink more water
  2. Take tablets and vitamins.
  3. Drink green tea and water instead of ten thousand coffees and teas.
  4. Figure out some new meals to cook / batch cook
  5. Do the team TOMM declutter deep clean week.
  6. Clean face before bed.

How’s everyone’s first day gone?

Apart from the bottomless brunch (which actually I think I didn’t go too overboard with considering...) I’ve managed to pluck my eyebrows, and tidied out my dressing table... maybe the Prosecco helped me throw away/give to charity things I wouldn’t have wanted to sober!

I’m just waiting to get a beef casserole out of the oven, then crumble for pudding 😃 have cleared out the downstairs bedroom though so that’s a big tick!

Bath later with a face mask etc then paint my nails.

I'm doing OK, considering I only found out about the challenge a couple of hours ago.

I've done a meal plan for the next few days, which was my pitfall today. I've been for a walk and I have started my decluttering. I'm starting with the front bedroom this week.

1] Finish PhD Corrections - None done today
2] Declutter one room of house each week. Then repeat to ensure it's properly decluttered - Started the front bedroom
3] 100 days of a daily photograph - About to take this
4] Lose 15 KGs - 0 KGs lost today
5] 2 posts for Travel blog each week - None of this done
6] Work on Diploma for two hours per week - I have done 20 minutes
7] Healthy diet Intermittent Fasting each day - I have partially done this, I didn't have healthy food in so ended up with snacking rubbish for dinner but I did the fasting part
8] Alcohol Free - I have done this
9] 45 minutes exercise six times a week - I have had a walk which was longer than 45 minutes
10] Celebrate the Good Stuff daily - I have done my grateful journal

I've persuaded the 3 year old to pick out her clothes for tomorrow (she's going back to pre-school, just 3 hours a day) and prepped her lunch. She's also had a shower and didn't scream so that was a success! So now just hoping she doesn't change her mind about what to wear!

Day 100: Cleared out a very dusty bookcase and bagged some good condition kid's books for the second hand shop. Started weeding a neglected bit of shrubbery. I went for a walk too. I face masked last night too.
Can I recommend a lovely book? Akin by Emma Donoghue. It's about a retired man who becomes guardian to a young boy. There's a WW2 mystery in it too.

I am so in op!!!!

Thank you for suggesting this, we have a head start on the 1st of Sep and we will be well under way by then.

I started today with booking bin slot, and decluttered three bedrooms. Six months of lockdown has really taken its toll. Four bin bags later I am wishing I had booked a double slot for the refuse centre, but anyway made a good start.

Bath is now running, candles lit. All manner of masks and creams are at the ready beauty night every Sunday used to be my fav night and for some reason it stopped, now restarted!

Diet Lemonade with ice and lemon is ready this evening. Big change from my usual G&T.

Ordered new winter coat - and just for once I will find a pair of gloves and boots to match whatever happens.

I am getting lots of good ideas from this thread.
