Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

I’m in. I have worked right through this pandemic and l need to focus on something else as my mental health is taking a bit of a beating, so my list is

  1. Join online weight watchers and loose 2 stone.

  1. Get back out running (find a new place first as all the new runners are blocking my old running space).

  1. Sort out my sleep by doing a bed time yoga video l seen on YouTube and have a regular bed time aiming for 10-10.30.

  1. Self care lm worth it, morning routine is fine it’s my night time one which isn’t and lm going to book my hair/ eye appointments up until December.

  1. Tidy through all rooms and garage and give a lot to charity.

  1. Sort out the vitamins l buy and never take and if lm not going to take them throw them away.

  1. Pay someone to clean the oven and inside my windows and pretend l did them myself (it’s a treat for myself, don’t judge).l think l could leave this till November as then it’s all sparkly for Christmas.

  1. Meal plan better and stop wasting food.

  1. Keep saving money. I saved enough money during lockdown to redo both kids bedrooms, we didn’t starve and l only went to Aldi once a week and done maybe 3 Iceland shops. Now lm starting to spend on crap again l need to regain it in. Taking my lunch to work each day will help this too, l have been slack lately.

10. Not to buy clothes l don’t need any. Maybe black boots as lm sure my last years went in the bin, but l will check first.

11. Write a Christmas list and cull it, l don’t really need to waste my money on ungrateful people this year x

I would like to join too. I’ve put on far too much weight. We are about to move house so when that has happened I’ll be back on to update my list of what I need to do.
Number 1 is stop eating rubbish food.

I'm in, kind of already started

  1. Smash it at work
  2. Lose 2 stone-have shopped, meal planned and done some batch cooking, need to log on Cronometer
  3. Regular exercise-doing 30 days of yoga, physio for frozen shoulder
  4. Declutter
  5. Sort my sleep/routine out

Somewhere to post updates / mutual encouragement would be really helpful

I would like to join too please. I have already started to improve my eating as I put on a stone in lockdown which rather added to the 2 stone I already had to lose. So my goals are:

  1. Lose 2 stone
  2. Do some kind of exercise every day including walking workout for over 50s that I found on You Tube.
  3. Resist purchasing anything I don't really need as finances need improvement.
  4. Defuzz my legs every week rather than waiting until they poke through my tights.
  5. Moisturiser EVERY night even if I am tired and use handceam too
  6. Learn to say NO to various relatives who think I am the best carer for my DM although they don't work and could commit to giving me one weekend a month off....but won't.
  7. Put £1 a day into a pot that will be for me to buy a new Christmas outfit which will make me look and feel on top of the world .
  8. Say something positive to my reflection every day that helps me to believe I am worth the effort

I am sending positive thoughts to all of you and am looking forward to sharing our progress Smile

Simple goals (that I can hopefully achieve):
1 Always have a book that is being read
2 Turn out all cupboards and drawers by beginning of December - cheating a bit as decluttering threads have meant I’ve already done quite a lot
3 Improve eating by taking food with me on work days
4 Continue with twice weekly training

Countdown please - more motivating

I’m in pleaseSmile

  1. moisturise skin after shower each day
  2. am starting slim fast on Monday for breakfast an lunch - aim to loose half a stone to one stone by December
  3. read more books than internet
  4. 10,000 steps a day ( top up steps with a walk if don’t complete at work)
There are some more but I’ll have to come back

yep. I'm in.

have gained a stone during lockdown and soon it will be autumn and I will not be able to wear flowy summer dresses and may need to do up my jeans.

Also-with 5 ppl (DH, me and 3 DC early 20's late teens) in the house everything getting on top of me. They do help but we are bursting at the seams!! Dust bunnies the size of a small dog currently taking over upstairs hall...

Countdown it is then.

Day 100 is tomorrow so I'm personally going to be gently easing into it. Spent yesterday on phone and messages regarding DDs schools and drop-off and pick-up procedures and activities starting back (or not, Ireland has gone into a light lock down and some activities are affected) .

One thing I've decided to do is make a list every morning of things I MUST get done that day and another list of things I would LIKE to get done.

Hellooooo! So funny that this has started on here, as I just tried to start almost exactly the same thread on another board Grin.

Count me in! Overhaul, but step by step for me.

Not about weight so much for me, but definitely need some healthier eating and habits. I feel crap at the moment and have some aches and pains, I think, due to lack of exercise recently Blush.

Nipping that in the bud and also cutting back on booze, which I don't really have much of, but I can feel it creeping up a bit. Aiming for 5 units or less.

What else? Oh yes, early nights, more water and less internet and shite tv, more books and good movies.

I'm in!

We're hoping to move soon, so I need to overhaul the entire house and will overhaul myself at the same time.

I've not really bothered to do any pampering, and miss feeling pulled together, and I also need to lose a stone or two.

Going to write some goals down tonight and get stuck in tomorrow Grin

I see I'm just in time; may I join?
I've put on weight (as has almost everyone) during lockdown-my first post-menopausal weight gain and it's proving more difficult to shift! Would like to:

  1. Lose 1 stone
  2. Read 1 book per week (used to love reading, but mostly I seem to be on Mumsnet)
  3. Love the idea of making a list every day, @Helgathehairy. I used to do this and was much more productive!
  4. Drink non-alcoholic beverages during the week
  5. Go to bed by 10 Sunday-Wednesday
  6. 5 glasses of water per day
  7. Do mani/pedi every Sunday
  8. Facial mask 2x week
  9. Improve my work wardrobe

10. 8 Fruit and veg per day (to start)
I've already started to exercise 4x per week and take Imedeen more or less regularly (anyone got any experience with these? not yet seeing an improvement in skin or hair or energy levels).
Thanks for this thread--maybe we can salvage 2020!

Omg I’m IN!! I have just lost my travel industry job so that is on my long list of things to sort but I’ve told myself I probably won’t find another job until the new year...

I want to

  • Eat healthier and eat 3 proper meals a day!
  • Cut Out the fizzy drinks
  • one takeaway every 2 weeks
  • regular exercise
  • keep up with my eyebrows/ hair wash / fake tan schedule lol

God, yes please!! I had finally started to get my shit together when lockdown hit! Nothing like a bloody global pandemic to derail all your life!

  1. Lose 3 stone
  2. Join the leisure centre and go swimming and gym classes 3 x minimum a week
  3. Learn some healthier recipes with more veg
  4. Cut down on drinking
  5. Drink more water
  6. Stick to my bloody budget and stop unnecessary spending
  7. Buy a house!

I'm in. I'm already on a weight loss thread and have lost some pounds but other areas could do with improvement.

  1. Properly declutter kitchen, bathroom and living room cupboards and shelves.
  2. Spend some time on the outside of the house. Clean paths, gutters, windows etc.
  3. Use cookbooks to vary dinners-have really got into a rut with cooking the same few over and over again.
  4. Get hair styled and eyebrows shaped and maintain them.
  5. General grooming including weekly face mask.
  6. Start wearing more of my nice clothes instead of living in tracksuit bottoms.
  7. Get good, stylish, comfortable winter boots. I try and fail at this every year but I think good boots make an outfit. I'm never happy with what I buy though.

Can I join in? Just back from holiday, and I need to sort myself out now.
I need to have a think of my goals but I've done over 10k steps a day whilst away so that's a start!

Oooh I SO need this - please can I join?

The house is a mess and bursting at the seams. It’s getting out of control. I have a very active toddler who meddles with everything within her reach. I tend to hang onto things we don’t need and hoard a lot of stuff I’m planning to sell but not get round to selling them.

I’ve gone from exercising at least 3X per week pre-lockdown to nothing except walking the dog.

I spend too much time on my phone. In fact, the book I was reading is lost somewhere in the house.

I do take vitamins but don’t drink nearly enough water.

Ditto lumea, I have one but keep forgetting to use it. I’ve not painted my toenails for months (although nails are better off for it!)

Everything is getting on top of me so I really need to stop wasting time and prioritise.

I also need to get back to work, both for the money and my sense of self-worth. I’m not actually enjoying not working. Have two teen DCs plus a toddler. Need more money, teenagers are expensive!

And YES YES YES to no biscuits until Dec!

I'm in. I did well cutting out snax and increasing walking at start of lockdown, then abandoned. Haven't dare to use scales since! I did sign up to an online history course today, and sorted spare bedding / towels, which I've wanted to do for two years so feel I'm ready for this now. What is body brushing?

My goals:

Lose weight
Healthier cooking and eating
Sort out house
Study my course
Get new job

Just the basics!!!
