Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

Forgot to add; I'm also doing a huge wardrobe clear out and trying to move towards a capsule wardrobe. It's just really difficult parting with stuff! But I would love to have just a few pieces which all went together and all that. Think it would make getting dressed a lot easier.

I need to continue with my diet.
I started my declutter today by doing two tip runs to get rid of some of the excess junk we've been storing for years! Still got more to do this week though.
I am prepping the house for some essential repairs that need doing - determined to get to Christmas with the house being better.
Also want to do the 10 minute yoga stretches on YouTube a few times per week.

@OverTheRainbow88, no, because I haven't got anything delicious in the house! Had chicken and brown rice for dinner ffs. Worst last night of indulgence ever Grin.

I am signing up for this challenge .

I did really well on new years resolutions but lost all my progress over lockdown/homeschool so now I am back to square one.

My plan is

  1. Give up fizzy drinks and alcohol for the duration
  2. Eat healthy and eat less
  3. Bake better treats for the family
  4. Walk the dog each day for an hour minimum after the ball games
  5. Read every day, write every day
  6. Learn a little French everyday
  7. Be completely organised with children and school stuff
  8. Practice yoga and meditation every week
  9. Pick up craft bits for making Christmas gifts and decorations for home

10. Find time for dates and relationship with husband.

100 days will make a huge change, I started this year determined to finish it well. I might not post here as much as I would like to but I will lurk and be inspired by everyone who is doing this.

@OverTheRainbow88.....yes me Beef teriyaki and noddles with prawn crackers, which isn’t really that bad but the duck spring rolls l said l wasn’t going to eat ended up in my stomach and l have a bag of percy’s parents l am gonna eat later they are my last treat, l gave it some thought.

Today in preparation for tomorrow l done my shopping using the wight watchers app as l joined today but will start tomorrow. Set up some small bank accounts to put money in for both of my children, my car mot/insurance/tax so next year l will have it ready rather than having to save for three months. Booked my hair and eye appointments till December. Meal planned, sorted my vitamins and a oil dispenser so l only really have toast it up once a week and made a plan for each room to be turned inside out. Wrote my Christmas list decided who to cull. God l feel so much better already. Bring on the countdown.

Whoever it was somewhere who said about having pots of money and putting into each week is a gem, l didn’t know l could do it with my bank l had a noisy around the app, l am so pleased.

Okay, have read the full thread and have been inspired. My goals:

  1. lose weight - daily exercise DVD HIiT, eat more healthily - no crap during the week, start up couch to 5k running three times each week. I don’t own scales so will measure myself tomorrow.
No drinking during the week. Better food choices.

  2. be more organised - I like to idea of the daily must and want lists. Will adopt these.
Tidy home as I go... get the hoover out more regularly, clean bathroom when have spare 5 mins etc

  3. work on getting a new job - worked through Covid but have lost my mojo and feel like I need purpose. Have seen a job to apply for so will start the application this week

  4. not procrastinate - lose so much time just mooching about the internet on my phone. Not good and feeds into my feelings of being crap

  5. plan one nice/special day out for me and DD each month

  6. self care - sort my clothes situation - need nice weekend/mum clothes, body brush everyday, maintain hair and eyebrows. Read self development books around inner child and buildings self esteem.

Will aim to check in each sunday with progress updates!

I’m in. I start the Fast800 tomorrow, have been doing an hour of exercise a day for the past two months and have booked to have my roots done next week but the house is a mess as we were starting some improvements when the lockdown started so there is plastering to be done and skirting boards and radiators off walls. So, by Christmas I will be in all my clothes, my waist will be under 30 inches, my cupboards will be decluttered and the house will be clean and welcoming - even if cold through lack of heating!

Ooh I'm just in time to start tomorrow! I'd love to join you all please.
I've eaten like a pig during lockdown so I really need to lose some weight and look after myself a bit more.
Also would like to be better groomed, have a tidier house and regain some of the self confidence I have lost along the way. A better job would be nice too!

I am in... As it happens I return to work on Monday and we run with an academic year so this works well for me as we try in my office to use it as a fresh start... 100 days till December means I can count down its my favourite time of year Grin

So....

  1. My Diet - Need to lose 2 stone.. I'm fat and uncomfortable.... So as I will no longer frequent my kitchen 1657 times a day its now or never... Must also drink 2 litres of water. I've noticed a huge difference since I've been off work and not having so much

  1. Excercise - I'm going to be realistic and say I will walk more - will still be WFH two days a week so will take DS for a walk before I start and when I finish to get us both out.

  1. Finances - Need to not visit Aldi for fun... Need to focus on shopping for Christmas...

Aiming to save 200 p/m ha ha

  1. Organisation - Must improve or I won't stay afloat. Between DS11 and his new school and hobbies restarting, DS1 causing carnage everywhere he goes, plus DH working away and me working FT, and a house that needs cleaning etc I run on a tight schedule and lots of caffiene

  1. Me - I have purchased Body Shop Drops of Youth and Vit E products and finally have newly cut and coloured hair which I am now taking care of again... Must keep this up and may even progress to nail polish again but for now going for short and neat.

  1. Kids - Going to make an effort to keep up our fun times even when I'm back at work.

Going to repost to add to my list.

Simple goals (that I can hopefully achieve):
1 Always have a book that is being read
2 Turn out all cupboards and drawers by beginning of December - cheating a bit as decluttering threads have meant I’ve already done quite a lot
3 Improve eating by taking food with me on work days
4 Continue with twice weekly training
5 10 minutes of Duolingo practice daily

See you all tomorrow on Day 100

This is a great idea, I’m in please. My plan is:

Moisturise every day
Cleanse face properly every night
Pamper/grooming night every week
Floss at least 3 times a week
Drink more water
Take vitamins every day
Increase my daily steps
Exercise 4 times a week
One early night every week
Start a fasting plan
Eat at least 5 fruit and veg every day
Get organised for Christmas

I think writing it down and following along with a group will help me stick to the plan.

Now I need to work out my fasting plan. I’ve not done it before but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about the last few weeks. Smile

I have found my people! I feel quite reassured in a weird way that I’m not alone and so many others share similar goals. I’ve screen shotted a few ideas already. Getting more sleep will definitely feature in any new goals. See also drinking more water and less alcohol. I shall be back with more in a bit!
