@frumpety

Have the posters who never buy anything from Iceland actually been recently ? Their frozen seafood is brilliant.

Stuff I never buy - air fresheners of any variety and tissues.

Their frozen fish is fab! And they sell the same brands as the big supermarkets Hmm. Reminds me of my friend who won't shop there because they don't sell any fresh food . My fully stocked salad drawer says otherwise!

I never buy fabric softener. Air freshener. Zoflora. Boxes of tissues. Ready grated cheese. Nestle products.

There are lots of things I rarely buy, eg jars of sauce and ready meals. But if there's a significant reduction/I'm on holiday with limited cooking facilities I might buy them.

LizzieVereker · 16/08/2020 22:57

Dishwasher stuff as I don’t have a dishwasher. Well I do, but it’s called Mr Vereker.

Ragwort · 16/08/2020 22:58

Never used fabric softener in my life.

Never buy pet food.

I can't think of anything 'mainstream' that I would never buy ... I rarely buy ready meals but will occasionally get an Indian meal deal from M & S or Waitrose snob and I also like the occasional browse in Iceland. I like the odd pizza as well, never buy 'spreads' only butter.

Actually I never buy instant coffee.

JingsMahBucket · 16/08/2020 22:59

@Turnedouttoes and others, you can use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. It’ll soften your clothes and clean your machine. I think it’s about half a cup or so to a load. Double check though.

FizzyPink · 16/08/2020 23:00

Also for the posters saying anything from Iceland, I popped in for the first time ever to get some ice creams the other day and I was so surprised how much they sell aside from frozen stuff.
It was also extremely cheap, £1 for branded ice creams that would have been at least £2/£2.50 in Sainsbury’s so I’ll definitely be going back to have a more thorough look

SantiagoSky · 16/08/2020 23:00

Fabric softener too.

louderthan1 · 16/08/2020 23:07

Oh and instant coffee. Terrible coffee snob.

Katinski · 16/08/2020 23:09

Really, the foods I never buy are cakes and sweet biscuits, etc. - the sweet gene just passed me by.
Lard. Can feel my arteries hardening just thinking of it!

Iceland - as I've not been out shopping since mid-March and before I got a regular Morries delivery, Iceland was the only s/market which had delivery spaces. I'd thought it was only a freezer place but it's not! Beautifully fresh vegetables, fresh fish and meat. It's great!

Fatted · 16/08/2020 23:11

I get my shopping regularly from Iceland. I also use fabric softener. I'm really starting to think MN is not my place.

There's not a lot I'm particularly precious about not buying. I never buy coffee.

ChavvySexPond · 16/08/2020 23:12

There are whole aisles I never enter.

Squash, fizzy drinks, crisps, chocolate sweets, ice cream, biscuits, cakes, the beige aisle with sausage rolls and pasties in it, desserts, meat, alcohol generally, Toilet paper, (separate delivery) anything frozen except veg and meat substitutes, ready meals, milk, cheese, yoghurt, chocolate spread...there's probably more.

Oldbagface · 16/08/2020 23:16

Wow. Totally fascinating. Never have used fabric softener. Never will.

Edinburghfalls · 16/08/2020 23:16

Like many others I never buy

  • fabric conditioner (not good for clothing, the environment or your health)
  • precut fruit
  • juices (all the sugar with none of the fibre)
  • air freshener (again, more chemicals)
  • most cleaning products (use our own vinegar solution)
  • processed meats
  • yoghurts - I want to like them, but just can’t swallow them
  • biscuits ;( I have no willpower and if I remember right a hobnob has about 90 calories. I’d be on 450 extra calories a day without blinking)
  • frozen veg and fruit (though I understand now given how far some of our food travels the frozen stuff actually has higher nutritional value).
  • cereals
  • ready meals (we go for tortilloni with garlic mushrooms, cheese etc as our alternative)

And loads more stuff!

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 16/08/2020 23:18

AlwaysLatte · 16/08/2020 23:27

Given the 1000s of products in a supermarket I think you would be as bored reading the list of things I don't buy as I would be writing it!

twentytwentyvision · 16/08/2020 23:27

Pasta
Rice

Stir fry packs
Bags of salad
