Surely the news on Scotland with the mad storms and tragic rail accident just shows more than ever how we should live our lives fully? You just never know what’s going to happen.

CruCru · 12/08/2020 18:00

That sounds awful Pleasenomoreglitter.

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 12/08/2020 18:03

Sorry @Pleasenomoreglitter that really IS shit.

Bollss · 12/08/2020 18:19

@Welcometothelifeboatparty

Genie have I missed you starting your new job? How is it?

Commiserations about the holiday Angry

You have! I've been there 4 weeks now. I'm enjoying it. It's more challenging than I anticipated but it's good none the less!
SomewhereEast · 12/08/2020 18:34

I'm another one who had no idea flu still killed so many people. In fact I don't think I realised it killed any people any more Blush

TheOrchidKiller · 12/08/2020 18:35

@Pleasenomoreglitter that's awful.

The requirement to quarantine for 2 weeks prior to elective surgery is unworkable for many people. Waiting for patients to become emergency cases if they can't quarantine sounds like the old, "Don't call for help with your covid symptoms until your lips go blue" line. It's a false economy.

Don't fancy cooking tonight. Have left it too late to go out with Rishi though- no tables left. Must get more organised for next week.

HeIenaDove · 12/08/2020 18:36

Local Reach PLC page asking if wearing a mask is putting you off going shopping. As usual the gaslighters incapable of critical thinking are interpreting it as refusing to wear one.

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/08/2020 18:37

To bloody hot to cook, but also too hot to go down for dishi Rishi.

Welcometothelifeboatparty · 12/08/2020 18:41

Delighted to hear it, GeneGenie. National Covid Service jobs are always challenging, and often full of people I like to call 'willie wavers' but as long as you're enjoying it, that's grand Smile

HeIenaDove · 12/08/2020 18:46

This posters mask has finally slipped. He/she posted this on a mask thread.

Since this has been rightly criminalised but apparently no enforcement I have not witnessed such blatant Covid safety stupidity. Obviously one would assume these people are selfish, reckless and possibly lack basic knowledge of current affairs and news. I suspect they may not adhere to all other Covid risk mitigation social norms either so would avoid proximity for your own safety. They are all possibly using the exemption get out of jail rules as obviously this would in some localities seemingly cover half the local population and so defeat the community scientific health benefit. Possibly a Covid hotspot. I do wonder if there is a link between such behaviour and our world record Covid lives and livelihoods damage

The agenda is quite clear. Some of these types of posters are here to shift the blame to the public for the high amount of deaths. Its not about public health at all.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/08/2020 18:49

Got away with minimal covering for my massage Grin The professional bodies for massage and osteopathy have different risk assessments and advice. From my point of view lying there having my calves kneaded and butchered, I can't tell the difference in contact risk! She has to wear a visor, but the osteopath a mask.
It was so sweaty in there. Normally there's a towelling sheet then paper overlay, but for easy cleaning it's just the paper which was saturated in sweat today. It felt deceptively relaxing at the time, but the deeper aches are beginning to emerge. More water and ibuprofen methinks.

As she was proddind away at some tender knots in my shoulders she was asking about accupuncture... by the time I rotate back to her, she'll have done her course Grin The first osteopath I saw years ago did it and it was amazing. My quads felt permanently tight to the point that it was normal as everything was out of alignment from the SPD, and it felt like being poked with a pencil, but after, it was amazing how soft and relaxed my muscles were. A good few hours of cramp while everything adjusted, but it's that frog in a pan distortion of your normality that you don't see until it's suddenly shifted.

amicissimma · 12/08/2020 18:56

SomewhereEast, you are by no means the only one.

This is why I find it so maddening when people say 'Covid isn't just 'flu'.

There is no 'just' flu. Flu kills tens of thousands of people each year in the UK. Long term problems it can cause include inflammation of the heart (myocarditis), brain (encephalitis) or muscles (myositis, rhabdomyolysis) tissues, and multi-organ failure. I know of people who have had ME-like symptoms for many years after a dose of the 'flu and I myself was unable to work for 3 months afterwards and fell into bed early for a good year, although I was young and fit. With a bad dose, even with plenty of paracetemol you feel too ill do do anything but lie and moan and it can be nearly impossible to get out of bed and to the toilet without help for days. The WHO estimate that about 1 billion people worldwide get the flu each year. This despite there being a vaccination for most 'flus.

Covid, apparently, is different. And yet we keep being told that there will be a second wave because that's what happened with the Spanish Flu. But Covid isn't flu.

The major difference is that we don't close down the global economy and the social networks people depend upon for flu.

Reedwarbler · 12/08/2020 18:58

@Helena Dove that is a particularly unpleasant poster who also happens to suffer badly from verbosity!

bakingcupcakes · 12/08/2020 19:11

@Reedwarbler I know, I don't think Diana was old at all now I'm not far off 37. It's funny how your views change. I remember my great aunt saying once how she felt sorry for old people with their health and everything. She was 85 then! I don't think she ever thought she was old.

I honestly can't believe anyone would think 2020 could be put down as a 'good' year, never mind their best ever. It makes you wonder how shit their other years have been. Grin

I took DS to nandos today as promised. We were there for 12.30 and had to wait 95mins for a table! I can't believe I actually waited. Spent most of it sitting in the shade outside. There was no way I was doing any browsing in a mask in this heat.

Littlebelina · 12/08/2020 19:43

Leave the tomatoes alone sirsamuel, there is still time! We have harvested right into October before. Not this I think as we are far south and currently drowning in ripe ones so think they will finish in sept. Just keep an eye out for blight on the leaves esp if you've had lots of rain because then you want to rescue the fruit before it gets them. Green tomato chutney is good.

I was 16 when Di died. It was surreal. It was sad that anyone dies prematurely and horrible for her children but the public display of grief was bizarre.

Fab, will leave them to it. Will also Google blight so I know what to look for!
DominaShantotto · 12/08/2020 19:49

Uni have buried the "must wear masks in lectures" elsewhere on their website... I found it again via yet another link today.

I'm fucked - tutor didn't seem very sympathetic, mental support hasn't got back to me..

profpoopsnagle · 12/08/2020 20:13

Yay! It is now possible to recover from Covid!

NothingIsWrong · 12/08/2020 20:39

Yup. And if you work out the ALL SETTINGS 7 day average it's now between 10 and 11

wanderings · 12/08/2020 20:41

@profpoopsnagle Indeed.

I think we can take it as Her Majesty's Clowns ADMITTING that they exaggerated the death figures; no doubt as part of their agenda of fear and deception. "Different way of counting" my arse.

A cause for celebration! Although better statistics is always useful.

Finally! I did occur to me today that one of those poor people killed in the Scottish train derailment might have counted as 'dying from Covid' under the old regime.

Taswama · 12/08/2020 21:28

I’m appalled to hear of toddler groups being cancelled for the foreseeable. They were a lifesaver for me when I was on maternity leave.

Today I received an email from the school Senco asking me to ask my son to keep a 2m distance from his support person when he returns to school ( he has full time 1:1 in a mainstream school) . He’s very tactile. I really can’t see how that’s going to happen and I didn’t think they were doing social distancing within bubbles anyway. Now I have to decide how to politely word a reply that basically says ‘good luck with that’.

SomewhereEast · 12/08/2020 21:29

Anyway I think I've found The Dementor of the Day:

thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/511483-wisconsin-state-agency-requires-employees-to-wear-masks-while

I thought this was some kind of wind up by Trump supporters, but no, it is a thing. Can't be too careful!

Drivingdownthe101 · 12/08/2020 21:36

Turns out that under the ‘new’ reporting system, we actually had a 0 death day (from all settings) at the end of July.
