Elle DeGeneres - the backlash

They say James Corden is the favourite to step in to her shoes. I always liked her if I ever caught the show. The A listers seemed to want to be on the show and now there seems to be a backlash. I remember the DV rumours on here. If its all behind the scenes with the staff how much power did she have over their behaviours, what if she never even knew? It seems a shame when she went through all that after coming out publicly and how no one in tv would touch her. Its sad really.

Oh Ellen wasn’t Lolly Grin No wonder I didn’t spot it!!!

highlandshortbread · 06/08/2020 08:40

I watched a clip with Jennifer Aniston on EDG.

She frequently looked as if though she was frightened about saying the wrong thing and kept glancing at EDG awkwardly while gushing about them being best friends. It was weird.

Whereas on other shows as herself she’s fluid and seems friendly.

(Not a JA fan as such; just had noticed differences)

@Jihhery that's horrible!

The only talk show host I like is Graham Norton. I never disliked Ellen but I didn’t think she was ever natural or warm to her guests. I think her career doing this is over now though. Too much bad press regardless of where the truth lies.

A few years ago myself and my daughter visited a few sets and it was interesting and we had a good time, one of these Tours, we had a personal guide and it was fun, pretty little liars, Big Bang etc, when we got to the Ellen set we were told not to touch anything otherwise she would get in trouble. The guide was very nervous, There were cameras watching us and we had to walk with our arms strictly beside us so we didn’t brush against anything, we were not allowed within several meters of the stage it was very bizarre. The rest of the day was really interactive.

Oh and I’d never watched an episode of Ellen before that so didn’t know who she was.

LizzieBlackwell · 06/08/2020 09:12

I’ve never liked Ellen’s on screen presence and never got why people rated her so much.

In fairness if it’s a working set it’s treated a bit differently. I’ve also been to warner about 18 months ago and was told exactly the same about the Lucifer sets. We were allowed into Lucifers apartment but it was extremely controlled as filming was ongoing. The more interactive sets were those not currently used.

I get all nostalgic for the days of Wogan.

@HexyAndIKnowIt the Ellen show wasn’t being filmed, it was out of season, apparently they only film so many weeks a year. The pretty little liars was being filmed, much to my daughters delight especially when the actors said hello, another show I hadn’t heard of Grin the only ones I’d heard of was Friends and Big Bang which had finished the day before. I’d loved to have bumped into Sheldon!

rc22 · 06/08/2020 09:36

I've watched bits of it and find her quite entertaining. Often the guests are clearly celebrities in the states but unknown here so that puts me off watching regularly.

My husband will be delighted if JC takes over as it will make it less likely he will return to this country!!!

LizzieBlackwell · 06/08/2020 09:38

Also her twitter page is awful. She’s getting a lot of heat of people saying she is a pedophile. I’m not surprised her shows been cancelled tbh. She’s ruined

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/08/2020 09:40

She’s a terrible interviewer and the shows are just dull celebrity love ins.Much prefer Graham Nortona sofa where the odd ones (Jonny Depp) have nowhere to hide.

Mothermorph · 06/08/2020 09:41

Jonathon Ross? He talks for way too long (IMO) and asks about 5 questions in a row without giving the guest any chance to answer!!
I prefer Graham Norton. The guests usually appear quite relaxed apart from Madonna and there is often banter between quite unlikely guests.

Norton reminds me of mrs Merton Grin
shamalidacdak · 06/08/2020 09:58

Yeah this is the end of her career I think. When she first married Portia I read online that she was abusive towards her and wouldn't allow her to adopt kids.

EachandEveryone · 06/08/2020 10:09

Funnily I did catch one the other week and she was talking to a celeb who had just had a baby and the celeb asked her if she wanted any. She really emphasised that Portia never wanted any. Poor Portia just disappeared didn’t she?

If you don't like James Corden, amuse yourself with the fact that his middle name is Kimberley. Grin

thefourgp · 06/08/2020 10:43

Wogan was great too. Jonathan Ross talks over his guests all the time - he’s a terrible interviewer. I thought he was good when he used to do film reviews but I’ve seen him make some pretty misogynistic and homophobic comments when interviewing people. I don’t like him any more.

blurpityblurp · 06/08/2020 10:44

What has she done to be ‘cancelled’ though? Are we talking Weinstein harassment or being a diva?

Bullying and abusing staff, creating a toxic work environment, and turning a blind eye to abuse including sexual abuse and harassment. All the complaints are coming from people who actually know and worked with her, not the public/media.

Iverunoutofnames · 06/08/2020 10:57

She’s super creepy. Her whole relationship with Portia seems odd.
I like Graham Norton, I’m sure he said once he is almost never start struck these days which helps everything feel relaxed.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/08/2020 11:02

Always thought she was disingenuous.Shes dead behind the eyes.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/08/2020 11:07

The dakota Johnson clip is brilliant
