Elle DeGeneres - the backlash

They say James Corden is the favourite to step in to her shoes. I always liked her if I ever caught the show. The A listers seemed to want to be on the show and now there seems to be a backlash. I remember the DV rumours on here. If its all behind the scenes with the staff how much power did she have over their behaviours, what if she never even knew? It seems a shame when she went through all that after coming out publicly and how no one in tv would touch her. Its sad really.

@SatanicDesk

Ellen has always grated on me with her hyper-cheesy bopping and popping dancing around the “easy crowd” starry-eyed audience. Her mega watt grin never quite reaches the eyes. She creeps me out tbh.
That's it in a nutshell.
AfterSchoolWorry · 06/08/2020 00:59

I've always felt she was very false. I don't buy the easy going, ebullient persona she tries to portray.

allthewaterinthetap · 06/08/2020 01:03

She is one of my 'celebrities that make you uneasy' along with David Walliams.

Saw something about this earlier, not sure what she's supposed to have done though?
Can anyone summarise?

TheNewLook · 06/08/2020 01:22

She always seems so bored by her guests. Never asks significant questions, just talks rubbish - as do the guests. I suppose that’s why the celebs like it, it’s totally unchallenging.

AnneOfQueenSables · 06/08/2020 01:33

These stories have been around for years. I've never thought she was likeable. Impressive - for coming out and forging a career. But not likeable. I do wonder if there's an inherent conflict in being a trailblazer and being 'nice'. I'd imagine you need to be thick-skinned, focused and narcissistic to break through all the barriers that she did.
I am intrigued as to why it's all falling apart for her now. There must be a reason for the timing.

LynetteScavo · 06/08/2020 01:49

I've never liked her, she always seems really fake and "look at me". I've never found her funny. I definitely think she's over rated as a show host. It's such a full show, I never really understood her popularity.

Oprah on the other hand has always struck me as strong and kind and humble.

TehBewilderness · 06/08/2020 02:15

It figures they would choose an abusive asshat lik Cordon to replace a Lesbian, dunnit?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 06/08/2020 02:20

Abusive? How so?

PercyKirke · 06/08/2020 02:23

I've never seen the hype about Ellen, to be honest. Never found her even slightly amusing.

This. If the woman has any talent it's been hidden from me.

Idore · 06/08/2020 03:04

Not a fan of Ellen, I remember an episode with Mariah Carey where she brought out champagne to try and pressure her into revealing if she was pregnant or not.

Both her and Corden come across as arseholes.

babydisney · 06/08/2020 03:22

I've been saying for years her presenting and interviewing style comes off uncomfortable, also there has been accusations against her for years, only now due to the politically correct revolt occurring are executives paying attention

SlyOldStoatyStoat · 06/08/2020 04:52

She creeps me out. I know most of these hosts have a persona but there’s something about her that doesn’t sit right.

Jc is an annoying, over the top, shouty wanker.

Lowhum · 06/08/2020 06:14

What has she done to be ‘cancelled’ though? Are we talking Weinstein harassment or being a diva?

Lowhum · 06/08/2020 06:17

As to the champagne with Mariah, surely that would have already been discussed behind the scenes? I always thought her show was for celeb gossip.

Jilljams · 06/08/2020 06:27

I watched an episode where she went to a supermarket with Michelle Obama. Obama came off as really lovely but Ellen was weird and rude.

JacobReesMogadishu · 06/08/2020 06:44

I know someone who had a prolonged and very close professional relationship with JC and says he’s a very nasty man. Literally a “don’t you know who I am” celeb. Full of himself and looks down on others.

I’ve heard rumours about Ellen been a nasty bit of work for years.

CourtneyLurve · 06/08/2020 07:21

Not a fan for all the reasons already detailed. BUT she's getting far more shit than a man would get.

Letterman, Leno, Conan, Colbert all have/had mostly white, male staffers. Decades of TV with women and minorities almost totally excluded. The ones Letterman did hire were young, pretty things he fucked in his office. He's still regarded as a TV legend. Kimmel has years of sexist material in his back catalogue. Howard Stern has gotten a total pass in the #Metoo movement, despite decades of promoting misogynistic, abusive content.

She certainly deserves criticism and investigation if the allegations are true, but the vitriol has absolutely been amplified due to her sex.

Socre383 · 06/08/2020 07:41

Love this! Go Dakota!

Dowser · 06/08/2020 07:44

She ruined orange is the new black for me. Couldn’t stand her and I did wonder how much of herself she brought to the role.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/08/2020 08:08

Her interview with Jodie Comer was honestly embarrassing, it was obvious she hadn’t watched Dr Foster and asked her if she had an American accent in it

dayswithaY · 06/08/2020 08:22

If anyone ever listens to the podcast My Favorite Murder, one of the presenters is Karen Kilgariff who was for many years, head writer on Ellen's chat show but she never talks about it, even though it was a high profile role. Another former colleague who actually started the whole Ellen thing on Twitter, said Ellen sacked Karen after five years for refusing to cross a picket line during the screenwriters strike in L.A. and never spoke to her again.

Karen mentions it in her book, without naming Ellen, about the toxic environment on the show and when she was sacked she sold the BMW Ellen had given her for Christmas because she was broke. She must be loving this.

30not13 · 06/08/2020 08:34

@dowser

That was Lori Petty (tank girl)
Not EDG
