Been away a few days, see it is still doom and gloom on MN with the not going in a restaurant ever, schools going back will not go well etc...

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 09:54

Oh yep, orangeblossom, they had him on the Today programme apparently, fuck knows why

ISaySteadyOn · 06/08/2020 09:55

Thank you. I will try. I am, as you may have gathered from these threads, an extremely anxious person.

@Allflightscancelled, good article. Doesn't matter if it's the Daily Mail. If I have learned anything of late, it is not to dismiss an article based on where it comes from but read the article on its own merits.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 09:57

Personally I'm not looking at any of the other boards right now, they'll drive me mad and I'm determined to try and stay buoyant.

Buoyant is my natural state, but this year is testing it rather severely. I can't afford to dip below the surface, my DH is a depressive and one of us needs to be able to keep us both afloat. So I spend a lot of time with my fingers in my ears and singing loudly to drown out background news noise

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 09:59

@ISaySteadyOn sorry you're anxious. My DH is too. The world thinks he's a very, very cheerful bloke, but he really isn't. [Flowers] to you

Pleasedontdothat · 06/08/2020 10:07

@Allflightscancelled

‘Seasalt have just sent me an email offering organic cotton face masks in a range of fabrics, three for £19.95.‘

Yep - with you on this one! I just hit delete ... I’m so fed up of all this crap being normalised - there is nothing normal about this and putting a bit of flowery fabric over my face is not going to make it any better. What particularly got me about Seasalt’s email was it started with ‘show people you care ...’ by wearing one of their masks ... I don’t actually need to do that to show I care. thank you very much

chocolatesweets · 06/08/2020 10:09

Morning :)

Yeah, show people you care by shutting yourself in the house for months on end. I feel really cared about.

I don’t know why the media even gives Neil ‘ caught with pants down’ Ferguson air space.
Loathsome man[/quote]
My prediction he will be one of the scapegoats...he certainly deserves to be.

PHE will also be fall guys. They also deserve it their death counting is bonkers.

Overall trust in experts will take a further substantial hit.

Orangeblossom777 · 06/08/2020 10:15

That Uber ad is annoying with the masks too.

In Holland people won't wear them because they are 'annoying' so they are making them wear them in two streets (only) in Amsterdam, including the red light district.

That will help, then Confused

Orangeblossom777 · 06/08/2020 10:19

(meantime brothels etc are still open)

Polkadotties · 06/08/2020 10:21

My sister has just phoned me in bits, her October wedding has been cancelled. I’m so upset for her, she has had a really shitty year and this is just one more thing.
I’m so angry about how the government is handling this and the impact on people’s lives

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 10:24

BakewellTarts

I hope so, because the level of blind faith in some of the snakeoil salesmen experts is alarming to say the least.

TheOrchidKiller · 06/08/2020 10:25

I don't know about the personal lives of anyone in Sage or other government advisory roles. I'm guessing that they have jobs they can do from home & they are not responsible for home educating or entertaining children for the bulk of the day, or for having to queue outside shops etc etc. How many of them haven't seen close family this year and really believe that this is the right thing to impose?

What I'm getting at is how are they not seeing the collateral damage of the measures they insist on?

Morning all! There is a really good article int he news today. I'm sorry, it's in the Daily Mail and I know that doesn't go down well.

If you don't mind clicking their links it's here: www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-8597815/Britains-gone-lockdown-la-la-land-says-DR-JOHN-LEE.html

If anyone has a Spectator sub, there are about a dozen Covid articles from him. Very anti D, anti mask, anti lockdown etc etc.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 10:28

Oh that is such a shame about the wedding.

A wedding we were going to was cancelled in April and they'd been so very excited about it, it was awful.

My Stranglers/Ruts concert in October has been rescheduled too, and while I know it doesn't come close to a cancelled wedding, I'm really gutted, especially as we already lost Queen and Adam Lambert. The problem is that all these things, some big, some small, accumulate into a massive mountain of disappointed hopes until everything seems a bit pointless.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 10:30

Just off to look, IAintentDead......

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/08/2020 10:35

We were due to be at three weddings this year, all cancelled. Especially gutted for my cousin who has had a really shit time of it (dumped at the altar last time she tried to get married Sad). All rearranged for early next year so fingers crossed.

BakewellTarts · 06/08/2020 10:40

So sorry to read this. She is not alone but that doesn't help it's spectacularly rubbish. I hope she can reschedule. I think suppliers are being flexible. Both our cousin and a friends wedding have been rearranged twice now.

And yes we have lost a lot of planned fun this year too. Each not that big a deal in itself but cumulatively very depressing. Currently still chasing a Section 75 refund after two months. Think we might need to take it to the Financial Ombudsman.

Dowser · 06/08/2020 10:41

Someone without a brain cell at sea salt trying to normalise dehumanising us

They’d get a strongly worded email from me

Yes, I'm considering it, Dowser

Polkadotties · 06/08/2020 10:48

Thank you all. When cancelled weddings are mentioned on other threads all you get is, it’s just a wedding and people are dying how dare you want some fun!!
She has got a date in February, the last Saturday the venue had left for next year.

Dowser · 06/08/2020 10:51

@Polkadotties
This just makes me so angry
People should be allowed to make their own risk assessments now.
Did the venue cancel?

It’s time the country was fully up and running.
We missed a big uk holiday, Avebury, Dorset and Cardiff for our regular meet up with friends and family and a dowsing course at the stines in Avebury.
A music festival at Stanhope County Durham..and then everything else that makes life nice, regular,at trips to cinema, live music around york , dowsing days out etc
So nothing major in the scheme of things ..but as I nearer the end stage then the beginning, how many more years will we get to go out and party like there’s no tomorrow.
How many years will I be able to drive for..we have no plan B since Mr Dowsers stroke and he can’t drive.

But losing your wedding, your holiday of a lifetime, having a proper funeral..there’s nothing can make up for that.
It makes me so angry 😡😡😡

ISaySteadyOn · 06/08/2020 10:54

Polkadotties, your poor sister. I am sorry to hear that.

Fun is important to both physical and mental wellbeing, I think. So we need to let people have fun for their health.

It's funny, I used to get annoyed with people having noisy parties behind our terrace but now I just think 'Good for you!'

Polkadotties · 06/08/2020 10:56

@Dowser yes she got a call from the venue.
TUI had already cancelled their honeymoon and that has been moved to January.
So it looks like they will be having their honeymoon before their wedding.
Unless it all changes again.

Neil Ferguson brings out the Maureen Lipman in me. “You’ve got an ology? You’re a SCIENTIST!”.

Odious little shagger.
