I have very shaggy children now, more so than usual, and they did let me at them with the scissors twice early on.

I watched DS1 sort himself with a drink of water with some pride yesterday Grin
It's great watching them achieve something else on their path.

DS2 seems far happier than he did. He really was alarmingly lethargic in June and the increased range of things to do has put more of the holiday atmosphere on. There was also a class meet up a couple of weeks ago that seemed to ground him, and he managed to play with the neighbour at the weekend. He spends much of the week with grandparents for childcare or at football since it became allowed to meet others, so he just hasn't been avaliable for DS2 to catch up with.

There's a lot of "local" families around here and it makes it harder to network with other families which I've felt more strongly than usual since March.

Had an epiphany on another thread Thought id share it

As yellow star invites Godwins Law replies (though there ARE parallels, i recommend people hit back with "scarlet letter" instead.

e.g. Do you really expect people to wear a scarlet letter like in the book/film . Maybe instead of an A like in the story it should be a D for disabled or E for exempt.

That should stop the Godwins law replies.

Willow2017 · 06/08/2020 00:25

That had crossed my mind HelenaDove wonder what they would come up with to argue with that?

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 00:28

They were wanging on about badges and i suddenly remembered The Scarlet Letter, (film with Demi Moore) saw it years ago.

Its a symbol of misogyny rather than ableism but doesnt carry Godwins Law connotations.

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 00:30

They will probably come up with something but will have to stretch the old brain matter a bit more to do so.

Willow2017 · 06/08/2020 02:36

Get one sick fuck just got a piece of my mind. Done with this shit.

I’m up and dressed waiting for the new fridge-freezer. Part of me is excited because I’ve wanted a big one (oooer) for years - and part of me sad because it’s with a view to not being able to get shopping regularly and the likelihood that I’ll spend a fortnight in bed. And the old one is on life support.

I’m also trying to figure out what I can teach them at home if/when it all goes to shit. The curriculum is woeful and doesn’t stretch them. I think it’ll be Khan academy and if they learn just ONE topic to advanced level, I’d be happier that than stupid fucking printouts of dot-to-dot.

Apparently my kids have been utter arses to my dad so hopefully he’ll have a little more sympathy with me now.

I’m sure the tide is turning, albeit slowly. People are realising this virus isn’t going to be eradicated- and some of us ARE going to have a ghastly time.

Life never was fair.

Littlebelina · 06/08/2020 07:19

@justasking111

False positives virus shedding, bits of virus not infectious left over.
Was it the Oxford bloke? Heneghan?

That's a good idea - should prevent the easy/lazy comeback at least
BakewellTarts · 06/08/2020 08:34

@HeIenaDove I like your style. Will also use that if needed. Although probably in real life. I can't face the rest of MN at present. It doesn't impact me directly but even I can see that you should not be required to share your medical history to buy as loaf of bread.

On pantos our local one hasn't been cancelled...yet. I bought tickets a while ago as much as a show of support as anything. I'm not sure I expect it to actually go ahead.

On schools not going back. Lalala not litsening. I may be in denial but I need the girls back in school. the 14 year old in particular needs the social side. I do think the government is committed to it. I am also expecting an outcry if the English boards have done the same as the SQA and downgraded the teachers assessments.

I had to google Godwin's law. I particularly like this Wiki sentence!

Oh this is annoying. The Times today has something on older kids having to wear masks..and there is a mention of parents on Mumsnet being anxious about children returning etc...the mask dementors get into the press, possibly provoked by union reps (I wonder) who we see on here...

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-older-pupils-may-cover-up-when-classes-restart-2sk898q9b

Orangeblossom777 · 06/08/2020 08:43

Also it is that annoying dementor scientist as well, the pants down one going on about it too..

ISaySteadyOn · 06/08/2020 09:10

Very late to mention @SpnBaby1967, but I am relieved about those children. That was good news.

Wish all of you defenders of non mask wearers could come shopping with me. Would help. Smile

BakewellTarts · 06/08/2020 09:17
@LivinLaVidaLoki

Morning folks, thought you might like to know that yesterday the court authorised the removal of the children from our tenants home and the police removed them yesterday evening. They are now safe at their Dads house.

Now to start possession proceedings against our tenant as along side the abhorrent treatment of her kids she is also a nightmare antisocial behaviour perpetrator as well.
Missed this yesterday. That is good news. Hope the eviction goes well. She sounds delightful in every way.

Sallycinnamum · 06/08/2020 09:21

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito I loved your response on the pantomime thread. You essentially said exactly what I was thinking.

NothingIsWrong · 06/08/2020 09:22

We are staying with friends in Devon, and I had a last minute fuck it moment yesterday, so we booked Go Ape for today. Waiting to go up now and am really looking forward to it. It's busy as anything and lovely to see.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 09:25

Morning all! There is a really good article int he news today. I'm sorry, it's in the Daily Mail and I know that doesn't go down well.

If you don't mind clicking their links it's here: www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-8597815/Britains-gone-lockdown-la-la-land-says-DR-JOHN-LEE.html

In summary for those who don't want to look, it's by a recently retired NHS consultant and he's saying the lockdown is a bizarre over-reaction that's costing lives, that Prof Neil Ferguson is a charlatan should probably not be trsuted quite so readily, and essentially the NHS is crippled into inaction on everything that isn't covid. All stuff we know, but it's good that it's getting a good airing by someone who knows his onions.

Dowser · 06/08/2020 09:27

@ISaySteadyOn
I had great fun shopping with my granddaughter yesterday, she’s 10 and both were non mask wearers. We laughed and joked and teased one another and ramped it up a bit especially when the brainwashing Pisa’s came on.
It was joyous. I bought a winter dress for a tenner, and two scrappy nighties and dgdd bought a very sensible winter top and pinafore dress combo and I bought her eye make up, as apparently she’s running short of it 😂
She’s a gorgeous ray of sunshine and really brightened my day.

@ISaySteadyOn
Meant to say about the masks, just go in there like you every right not to wear a mask.
My lovely 73 year old is going to try the train to visit her son at the end of the month. It’ll probably be about 6 hours and doesn’t want to wear one.
I just said don’t, you don’t have to. Told her to print out the governments exception card and get on the train ‘like a boss’
Own it.

I’m so done this with this shit now, I forget it’s still going on in real life till I’m actually amongst it.
No one challenged me yesterday
They aren’t allowed to.
My dh still insists on putting one on in shops and it’s only the fact that I love him very much that stops me from giving his arse a good kicking 😂

I don’t know why the media even gives Neil ‘ caught with pants down’ Ferguson air space.
Loathsome man

Me neither, Dowser. The picture of him in that article I just quoted made me feel a bit ill

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 09:47

and I also loathe the growing tendency for clothes brands to try to sell us their overpriced face coverings. I know they've been hit by the economic fallout like the rest of us, but face coverings are NOT a fashion item Angry

Seasalt have just sent me an email offering organic cotton face masks in a range of fabrics, three for £19.95.

Hell, no.

Orangeblossom777 · 06/08/2020 09:48

He was sacked right, from Sage? Bit still keeps popping up with his opinions. Arrogant bloke.
