There's a mix of fully enclosed trams and this one that was open deck so it is a blanket policy. I went knowing what the policy was and that that their rationale has been aligned with transport policy from the start. I'm not going to quibble at that one.

At least there were no issues with bare faced children. DS1 has a reasonable exemption for his ASD/ SPD and DS2 for his asthma. His asthma is mild, but I'm not going to piss about with risking triggering his asthma for some virtue signalling. They are both clearly u11, but it does bother me how many people are covering their children's faces and "normal" it is becoming.

I refuse to go to Gullivers this year because they're expecting 3+ to cover up on rides. Any policy like that, I'm boycotting. I should not have to justify my children's medical history to gain admittance for a theme park- apparently it should be declared at booking. I normally go there most years as it tends to be good value, especially compared to the likes of Alton Towers which they are still too small to get the most from.

Yes me! It's sad it's not respected. Being a sahm is such an important job. I'm looking for jobs too.

gah ds2 in floods of tears for no apparent reason again. He's so anxious :( ... irl I'm completely chill, pragmatic & jollying the children along, not sure what else I can do. Dh has taken him out for a drive & trip to the supermarket (they have a small toy section).

Ds1 (the ultimate non communicator) started talking about bullies & hiding his 'autistic behaviours' this evening. He never talks about stuff.

dd2 is in a constant rage & dd1 is just in general crisis mode ... she's so down about university. It's unbelievably stressful.

Helps bells I don't have small kids, my teens spend most of thier time in thier rooms (ds2 is more sociable and tactile though) and I appear to be permanently on the verge of exploding. Cant bear to think of being stuck indoors with little uns.

@RobinHobb you have my sympathy. I’m so, so desperate to go back to work and I’ve been on furlough since April. My furlough ends in a few weeks so I’ll be wfh then and DS going to my parents but fuck, I want to be back in the office. Now.

My mum has turned dementor now too. I ended up having a cry today because the stinking rain has given me an insight into how bad winter will be if everything for toddlers remains closed. And she says well, would you rather DS got really ill with the virus? It affects children more than adults. Ok mum, keep watching those weird news channels. Sometimes you just want someone to hear you, let you feel what you’re feeling, not tell you how fucking lucky you are to not be dead and how you’d better get used to this longterm.

I got on a bus today, to go from one small town to another. Where I am only kids, the very old and the poor get buses usually.
Anyway, as soon as I got upstairs I noticed that all 5 or 6 people on the bus had taken their masks off, and every time anyone new came upstairs they pulled their mask off too!
It made me think about some of the total Roolz Fetishists on MN, and how they would have been fainting and crying. And possibly even sadly dying as a direct result of a maskless 15 year old on the backseat.

@BogRollBOGOF we are going to the Tramway Museum tomorrow as part of our "Revisiting my childhood in Derbyshire" holiday with the children. I understand they are in difficulties so want to support them. A good (although slighlty dementor) friend is pretty high up in their engineering and is concerned. We have masks so fine will live with them.

Not eating out on Rishi yet but supporting out local where we can. They have been doing takeaways andtheir sourdough pizzas are lush. Not at all interested in a discount just want them to survive.

On emotional children. DD1 is up and down. Not sure if it's hormones but the current situation doesn't help. DD2 is having a ball with her cousin. Finally she has someone to talk Minecraft too endlessley and loudly.

@HelenaDove I agree. I don't know how so many NHS staff get to say whatever they want on social media. I know my friends who are consultants have strict rules that they cannot post about the workplace because they may break client confidentiality accidentally. And yet I see nurses dancing on Tik Tok within hospital premises.

Our trusts policy is basically if it can make the trust look bad don't say it. Even if your social media is private, don't say it. We are a MH trust so "shaming" of any description would land you in hot water if someone decided to bring your boss' attention to it.

But all NHS workers are 'angles' aren't they?

One of the sadest things I saw was a tiny girl in a buggy crying & trying to take her mask off. Mum was insisting she had to wear it. This was before they were compulsory in shops.

Never went to Gulliver's. Enjoyed the Heights of Abraham. Arrived once to find the cable cars broken so we walked up and nearly expired on the way. I am awful with heights & cable cars/ ferris wheels and on the way down had to keep my eyes shut, much to the disgust of my children! Wish I hadn't watched the film of how they planned to rescue passengers if it got stuck- via a hatch in the cable car roof & a helicopter!

To everyone with children at home, . This is my last school summer holiday ever. We had to check the calender tonight as we couldn't remember which week we're on, & I'm not sure which day he goes back.

We have lots of pre-schoolers living on our street. I have total admiration for their parents. Some days one little one throws a strop and you hear them all go down like dominoes. No nursery, no groups, I don't blame them.

NHS workers doing the "I despair" Giant Doctorish shaming & handwringing are the worst. I am embarrassed by them, & quite frankly, bored by it. They need to get over themselves. They are quite likely also the ones waving their ID badges at the front of a supermarket queue.

There’s one (giant sad nurse) on my Scottish outdoor swimming group. Despairs at “more than 5 people” meeting at a Loch to swim. 🙄 says if we must, she hopes she doesn’t see us on her covid ward.

Hello all. Good day here today - I saw a friend today and he properly bear-hugged me. It was great; just like in the Before Times, just hugged me as soon as he saw me. Had a brilliant catch up and the day didn't drag like it usually does.
