We ran out of space 999 messages, whilst I was composing a post, our bad.

justasking111 · 01/08/2020 14:00

Well as I was saying re: jelly. Mum used to add a little water to dissolve jelly, then whisk up carnation milk and make an amazing mousse type thing which we loved in rabbit form or any other.

Dowser · 01/08/2020 14:12

Totally fucked up the heading didn’t I?

@justasking111
I used to make those milk jellies
Awesome
I’d forgotten all about that
So easy to do

Tent is up ready for our safari camp tonight. DH has posted a pic on Facebook saying we've found an amazing campsite where the dogs can run free and I can go horseriding. People want to know so they can go and he won't tell them where the big meanie 😆

TheOrchidKiller · 01/08/2020 14:31

Actually just made a jelly for tea tonight! Thanks to JustAsking for the inspiration. It's slightly past the best before date, but what the heck, eating a marginally out-of-date jelly is as about as exciting as life can get these days!

If we end up with jelly-poisoning & drain the NHS at this difficult & unprecented time, you won't judge me.

Waiting for the queues to die down before I head out to get the required ice cream.

Accidentally headed onto the BBC website & then to AIBU where the Schools vs Pubs debates have begun. If they shut the pubs to save the schools the unions won't like that. (Nowhere to go for a drink after a meeting for a start).

Still, if they shut the pubs it would provide the necessary extra space to keep classes socially-distanced.

My mum used to do that - I'd completely forgotten it! I now have cravings....
DominaShantotto · 01/08/2020 14:36

Not losing ya!

TheOrchidKiller · 01/08/2020 14:38

Come to think of it, I seem to have described some of the more illicit features of my state 1980s secondary education, especially school trips where we were instructed to go off for some "free time" & knock on the pub door to summon a grown up, "if it's an emergency."

justasking111 · 01/08/2020 14:41

Oh bugger you lot I have to go and make jelly now for grandkids.

Anyone who watched the Waltons will know how kids of all ages were in classrooms. They were even in a social room in a factory during the war. And if you have netflix and watched When Calls the Heart will know how the teacher moved all the kids into the saloon for lessons in the day pub at night. So maybe set up school in pubs in daytime. Where theres a will theres a way.

NothingIsWrong · 01/08/2020 14:56

Urgh thought I'd lost you. Until I realised I was searching in the Cars topic not the Chat topic...

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 01/08/2020 15:01

We used to have that jelly carnation mousse thing! It must’ve been in some 70s cookbook. 😁

@justasking111 that’s EXACTLY what a 19 year old SHOULD be doing... without the booking of course.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 01/08/2020 15:02

The “men” of this village said they would convert the church and community hall into classrooms if needed. They want the kids educated!

thenightsky · 01/08/2020 15:13

That jelly carnation milk foamy thing was the first thing I ever made in a cookery class at school. Think I must have been 11.

ISaySteadyOn · 01/08/2020 15:27

Hi all. Thanks, Dowser.

CruCru · 01/08/2020 15:38

Re the brain mould - a friend’s child had to make a body part out of cake for school year 7. That would have been really useful.

CruCru · 01/08/2020 15:38

Yes, thanks Dowser.

Worldgonecrazy · 01/08/2020 15:39

Checking in!

justasking111 · 01/08/2020 15:43

Oh gawd so embarrassed. Having problems with drop out on internet intermittent problem for a few weeks, DS had given up on X Box so having done tests online with sky for days finally bit the bullet to ring them and prepare to hang on for hours. Dialled number put phone on speaker and decided to go for a wee. As I was sat on loo a voice says, good afternoon Nigel here, how can I help you today. So there I was waterfall sound effects, loo roll in hand scrabbling for phone. Blush

Booking necessary only outdoor eating allowed until Monday in Wales plus we have gazillions of tourists now so we always need to book in summer.

Hello all!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 01/08/2020 15:52

Found you! We had a rabbit jelly mould when I was a child, unfortunately my DM was (still is) a shockingly bad cook, so the jelly never stayed rabbit shaped.

TheOrchidKiller · 01/08/2020 15:58

S'pose it's only fair to put schools in pubs. They've been putting Polling Stations into schools on election day for years.

When we moved here there was an indoor bowls centre up the road. It used to get turned into an extra exam hall for the A level & GCSE students because there wasn't enough space at the local school / college. It had big glass windows & was next to a soft play centre & required determination to march a couple of toddlers past without them banging on the windows.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/08/2020 16:10

DS2 would be well up for school in a pub. He'll have a half of Rattler Grin

4 family free hours... 3 clean toilets/ bathrooms and the conservatory (which can best be described as an overflow playroom/ semi outdoor space). DS2 comes in, straight to the toilet for the next 5 minutes.

I wonder why I hate tidying due to lack of job satisfaction?

pollyhemlock · 01/08/2020 16:12

I made a red rabbit jelly for eldest DD’s 5th birthday ( a long time ago). When I turned it out of the mould it collapsed and my friend peered at it and said it looked like a rabbit that had been run over by a car. Didn’t feel the same about it after that.
