DCs sneezing a lot but think it is hay fever with the hot weather...

I'm ignoring all the doom and gloom and just waiting to see what happens. Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

Orangeblossom777 · 02/08/2020 11:10

At leat they are not going on about mask wearing in public or something I suppose!

ISaySteadyOn · 02/08/2020 11:20

@BogRollBOGOF, I have to disagree with you about ancient gods. They'd be much more reasonable than the current government Grin.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 02/08/2020 11:29

Primary schools opening normally but secondaries on a rota

That would be less worrying for me if the secondary seemed to realised DD1 year are sitting GCSE - they've set work over this summer for subjects she hasn't had since she started GCSEs last year. I wonder if they think the kids will waftover to their substandard sixth form so it's not so much an issue.

Orangeblossom777 · 02/08/2020 11:35

I'm not sure what to think yet. I have two will be in year 7 and year 10. I would rather they were on an a rota than not at all, or to have it full time and then just stop. It's tricky. I just want some certainty but I suppose that is not possible right now.

I really hope they prioritise exam years. Years 11 and 13 followed by Years 10 and 12. DD1 is going into Year 10 and they have a lot of content to cover.

I've read the article and I think that for once the govt is trying to do the right thing and look at options. It doesn't mean that any will actually happen it all depends how infections go.

Also did anyone see the ONS data on excess deaths? Very depressing as we have done badly but interesting that those cities particularly badly hit early London and Birmingham seem to be doing better now. Manchester got off relatively lightly and now things are getting worse. I have been wondering if there is a correlation and more immunity in these two cities. I find it hard to believe that people in Manchester are behaving significantly differently to elsewhere.

Finaly the revelation that most community transmissions are in family / friendship groups. No shit Sherlock. I rarely if ever feel the need to hjug strangers or even work colleagues.

It appears London did have a protest yesterday as did Berlin
See if I can post pic on rubbish internet

My city centre was still on BLM on Friday. Up to about 100 people. Sensibly done. Handful of police watching at an unobtrusive distance.

DominaShantotto · 02/08/2020 11:46

They’re now talking about smaller classes but still full time which the schools have said they physically can’t do (and I get this).

We’re heading back to where we were.

I feel physically sick.

I can imagine stomping around chucking thunderbolts around in temper in Number 10 Grin

Chris Witty could be Atlas, he looks like he's been carrying the world on his shoulders 😉

CruCru · 02/08/2020 11:49

@Mrsfrumble

Do any of you lovely people know what the situation is with shoe shopping at the moment? Can we try them on? Children and I need new walking boots.

The vigilante mask shaming is depressing and all too predictable. I keep banging on about this, but there should have been a proper public information campaign about masks before they were made mandatory; telling people how to wear them properly, how to dispose of them and NOT to harass exempt people. There’s something particularly galling about disposable masks worn under the nose, knowing that they be clogging up landfill (or the sea) for god knows how long until they biodegrade, and for nothing because even when they were worn they were entirely useless.

Yes, I get cross about this. I’ve heard people say that because surgeons wear masks, everyone should be able to.

The difference is, surgeons don’t fiddle with their masks, pull them under their nose, take them off and put them on (which the general public do). Surgeons don’t even put their masks on themselves, someone does it for them.

TheOrchidKiller · 02/08/2020 11:54

Nearly all my family (minus a few) live within London & the M25. I'm really beginning to think we won't meet at all this year.

I've broken my second favourite mug, & I'm actually crying. (I broke my favourite mug on Friday). It was next to the bathroom sink & a load of stuff toppled off the window sill like on Tipping Point & one thing knocked it over. That one thing was a stupid aromatherapy roll-on from Tisserand called, "Happy Vibes." Well it can go in the bin now. It didn't smell nice anyway.

I know they're only mugs but it's the last sodding straw.

TheOrchidKiller · 02/08/2020 12:02

"Yes, I get cross about this. I’ve heard people say that because surgeons wear masks, everyone should be able to."

On a related note, a few weeks back there was a letter in The Times from a dear reader who wanted people who did not want to wear masks in public to have any future surgery carried out by non-mask wearing surgeons. It was a very "see how they like it then!" type of letter. Just stupid.

Orangeblossom777 · 02/08/2020 12:04

It may not happen, it is just speculation right now...fingers crossed London is through the worst of it. We can just hope for the best I guess.

I had my two part time before the summer and it was definitely better than being at home all the time. especially the one doing full days.

dingit · 02/08/2020 12:06

How is the m25 thing going to work? We live within it, ds works at Gatwick Confused

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 02/08/2020 12:06

DD1 was Y10 this year and has had exams messed around already - they sit fair few in Y10 in wales - so there are already problems so p/t school next year in Y11 wouldn't be great but really depends on how well the school handles it - and so far it's not been great.

They're having Y11 back later with other years - it's Y7 and sixth form going back a week early which adds to impression they're not that focused on GCSE's with the odd summer work on top.

countrygirl99 · 02/08/2020 12:07

I bought new boots at Mountain Warehouse a couple of weeks ago. No problem trying them.shop almost normal, just hand sanitiser as you go in.

DH said other day way things are going we won't see his parents till next year. I was think start of Christamas school hoildays - though bit dubious as DD1 is bound to have GCSE exams in January and she can't be off ill or with track and trace.

My parents wouldn't welcome vistors - they're self isolating as much a possible - Dad's out of hospital and they're having HCP come in at minute but beyond that they're back to trying to keep in and away from everyone else.

Allflightscancelled · 02/08/2020 12:12

I think a lot of this is scaremongering by the government, like they have often done at key points like sunny Bank Holidays. All designed to scare us into doing as we're told and being good compliant little citizens.

Well the latest idea, locking down over 50s. Don't make me laugh. I'm 58 and I'm NOT being made to lockdown again. They can fuck off.

Allflightscancelled · 02/08/2020 12:13

Boris is over 50 and Im certain Chris Whitty is too.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 02/08/2020 12:14

ShoeZone in week let DD2 and other parent and child try stuff on and just put it back- I did check - she need cheap pair of trainers for summer.

DH went with DD1 on a Saturday - spending her own money on boots - and they had to hand over any shoes for quarantining and had a staff member hoovering to check it was done.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 02/08/2020 12:16

Well the latest idea, locking down over 50s.

It would probably end up being over 65 or 70s again and be guidance.

Or if really lucky suggestion that employers let them work from home where possible. I serioulsy doubt they'd provide any money to do so - as bills are already high.

monkeytennis97 · 02/08/2020 12:16

@Dowser I don't think it's talking about masks but that children can transmit the virus and have a high level of Covid 19 in their nasal passages (although I did French A level many years ago)...
