I love when my hoover crackles, because I know that means it’s picking up all the dirt!

OP posts:

My brand new grandchild’s funny little sleep snuffles.

Curlews.

Two stroke engines passing on the road. Take me straight back to Ibiza circa 1984.

Pebbles dragging down the beach.

Feet on deep, virgin snow.

Have I got News for You music. Lifts my spirits, even the crappy lockdown version.

DeeDimer · 29/07/2020 21:04

The 'silence' of a heavy overnight snow fall.
Rain on the roof of a caravan.
My ddog snoring softly beside me.
The clink of ice in a glass.
Thunder.

LoseLooseLucy · 29/07/2020 21:13

Rainfall at night time, horses hooves when they’re moving, a fan on a low setting, the ‘dunk’ noise a pebble makes when it is thrown in a lake.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 29/07/2020 21:22

The sound of a car starting on a dark, freezing morning.

Why does it sound so different from any other time? It makes me feel Christmassy.

meow1989 · 29/07/2020 21:22

Oh on the subject of ice in a glass: the cracking sound ice cubes make when dropped into a drink.

And whe you spin a coin and it topples and does the rock...rock...rockrockrockrororro sound. Again not sure if that makes sense.

lazylinguist · 29/07/2020 21:26

Rain on the tent when camping, while I'm cosy and dry inside.
Cricket on the radio.
Wine being poured.
Waves on a pebble beach

MrsExpo · 29/07/2020 21:30

An odd one, but if you’ve ever owned horses you’ll understand ... and very hard to describe if you’ve never heard it .....

The sound of a dozen or so horses all munching hay in a barn. ..... it’s a sort of soft, rhythmical scrunching noise similar to the noise made when you walk through fresh snow (which is another noise I love .... boots in fresh snow).

grafittiartist · 29/07/2020 21:31

The sound of my fabric shears cutting flat on the table- gorgeous!

NeedToKnow101 · 29/07/2020 21:37

Brilliant question!

Love birdsong; going for walks and listening to the cacophony of birds singing was my highlight of lockdown.

When I was small, my mum had a funny clicky breath in, when she was sleeping. By remembering that I can remember being cuddled up in bed with her, feeling safe and cosy in an unsafe house.

Got other ones but I can't remember what they are at the moment.

StCharlotte · 29/07/2020 21:38

Water in pretty much any form but especially rain on a glass or plastic roof.

The silence of snow.

The crunch of footsteps or tyres on wet gravel (has to be wet and the finer the better).

And skylarks - conjures up a hot day in a meadow...

AmyFl · 29/07/2020 21:40

Children playing happily in the schoolyard near my home.

Witchofzog · 29/07/2020 21:44

Motorbikes on a fast road. I grew up next to a bypass with a biker meet up venue a few miles up the road so I find it soothing.

Bird song.

Rain battering the windows - especially skylight windows.

Ran on a static caravan roof when I am all cosy inside.

chrislilleyswig · 29/07/2020 21:47

Water - rain, sea, streams

Snow

The click of a cars Indicator. Reminds me of falling asleep in the back of my dads car as a child. The soft tick usually meant turning into our street after a long journey

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/07/2020 21:52

The sound of halyards tapping against an aluminium mast, distant storms and waves over rocks and pebbles.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/07/2020 21:53

The sound of the rain when I'm lying in bed and the windows are open.
Also, when I'm lying in my bed late at night, sometimes I can hear the noise of people at the pub if it's a really calm outside. I used to find that really comforting when I lived alone.
The silence when you walk through a quiet area after a heavy snow. It's a strange silence, I can't really describe it, but I love it.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/07/2020 21:54

The bag pipes.

Goslowlysideways · 29/07/2020 21:58

Black cab breaks. My dogs morning or quiet bark. The sound of my kids laughing.

Gulsink · 29/07/2020 21:58

Unzipping/zipping a tent flap. I think the unzipping is better than the zipping up.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 29/07/2020 21:59

Someone starting a V8 engine.
The funny noise my cat makes when she does a wake up stretch.
The ceramic clunk noise used in Minecraft when you place down anything made of nether bricks.
The sound of a freshly opened Pepsi Max bottle being poured into a glass.

Shortncurly · 29/07/2020 22:01

Water gurgling away down the plug hole.

mogloveseggs · 29/07/2020 22:02

Gosh so many listed here already! And the football results from the 80s. chap has a lovely voice

thismeansnothing · 29/07/2020 22:02

That pop you get when you break the seal of a new jar of coffee.

rainbowlou · 29/07/2020 22:02

I love sitting on the beach and listening to the waves.
Any kind of bird song, I sleep with my windows open and every night I hear an owl that doesn’t sound too far away, I’m sure it helps me fall asleep!
The sound of a pencil writing on paper.

Great idea for a thread 👍🏻

IAmFleshIAmBone · 29/07/2020 22:04

The noise when you pop the foil on the top of a jar of coffee.

Seagulls. Also, cows and sheep. I grew up in the countryside by the coast.

My cat chirping at the birds outside the window.

SummerPoppies · 29/07/2020 22:06

The sound of babies and toddlers laughing. It's infectious.
