@incognitomum Think I'm possibly in the perimenopausal soup. The hot spells are back & I keep waking up in the night. 8 hours' sleep is not enough!

DH has the news on. The Spanish PM says Britain has miscounted the number of Spanish cases. Wouldn't be surprised.

Hope everyone has a reasonable day. I have Death-by-Mandatory-Training today (socially distanced, of course).

Vodkacranberryplease · 28/07/2020 07:46

Ok well have RTFT and need to know. Wtaf is an AD????

mightbealittlebitmad · 28/07/2020 07:47

@chocolatesweets

Had an argument with dh last night. I told him that if we had to lockdown again I just wouldn't do it. I won't be inside with the kids all day again no chance. I told him that having a burnt out caregiver (me) was more dangerous than this virus to our kids. Why can't people see that?
Because as far as they are concerned the only threat to our existence is covid, nothing else matters. They're happy being inside with their kids all day long keeping them safe so they wrongly think everyone else should be too.

I'm not doing another lockdown again like last time, they can close everything they need to close but they are not stopping me seeing my friends and family anymore.

I can't believe there are people out there with kids who still won't let them socialise, children need to socialise with others. It surely must be damaging to keep them holed up for months on end, what happens when they eventually re-emerge? They will have forgotten how to behave around strangers won't they? As a child if I had been kept away from strangers I would have struggled to go back to interacting with them. I was a very quiet child, keeping me hidden away would have done a lot of damage to my socialisation skills.

chocolates I found this on support with twins from TAMBA which is a charity I think...in case any of it is of use. Sometimes you can get early years students who need placements with twins. We have Borland college here and they sometimes do that for free as part of their training.

dingit · 28/07/2020 08:03

Cross your fingers and toes everyone. Ds has his driving test today, after his first one was cancelled at the beginning of lockdown. I'm really hoping he passes as his office are going back in September, and he has a complicated commute via Gatwick.
He's a good little driver, better than me as my kids delight in pointing out Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/07/2020 08:05

Checking in... day 368910 of this shit (it feels like).

Lots of restaurants near me registered for the half price meals deal, will definitely be supporting some of the local ones.

SockYarn · 28/07/2020 08:11

@Vodkacranberryplease - anti-dementors.

The threads started to the doom and gloom and always looking at the worst case scenario which is so common on other MN boards.

GrrrrrrArghhhhh · 28/07/2020 08:13

Checking into new thread!

@chocolatesweets hang on in there, twins do get easier, I promise... mine are now nearly 13... I joke (but it's kinda true) that I have very little memory of the first year of their life such as the chaos in our house , but I I recall the two and threes well enough to know it's hard going, which will only be harder at the moment.

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 08:14

You can get £50 off bike repairs from this evening apparently.

Do you remember one of the first reality shows “driving instructor”? There was a character Maureen who really struggled and her husband said “if you don’t like the way my wife drives - stay off the pavement”. 😁
PinkFondantFancy · 28/07/2020 08:24

Haha I do remember Maureen.

Re. Bike vouchers, what are the government smoking?? Have they tried riding a bike in a city other than London? I have a bike, I enjoy riding it during lockdown. Under normal circumstances there's not enough space on the road for me and the cars so the cars get frustrated and do stupid things. There's only 4 spaces to lock up your bike in the city centre so my family filled all 4 of those on Sunday. The cycle parking at the station is absolutely tiny and no security at all so if your bike was complete before you get on the train, it definitely won't be there when you get back. It's absurd - so I drive my diesel car 2 miles across town to the station instead of just getting on my bike.

It's very simple, invest in infrastructure so that people have their own space to ride their bikes - make the pavements shared with pedestrian priority if need be, and people will ride their bikes.

dingit · 28/07/2020 08:27

I could be Maureen. ( although I don't drive on pavements unless you count curbs Grin)

ISaySteadyOn · 28/07/2020 08:33

I need a push from you all to woman up. The zoo is open but for us to get there, it requires me to take 2 forms of public transport or 1 and walk. I have my sunflower lanyard because of my heart and all the DC are under 11. I am still very anxious about people being nasty to me because of my lack of mask and I am also worried about people being nasty to the DC.

Tbh, if I weren't worried about loos, we might walk the whole way to the zoo but then they are timed slots so public transport is necessary.

Encouragement and advice gratefully and graciously welcome.

PinkFondantFancy · 28/07/2020 08:36

Sounds silly but would you be up for wearing sunglasses? You can pretend you can't see people giving you any crap. I'd like to think there has been quite a lot of press about the lanyard so you should be ok. Plus I've been on my local commuter group Facebook page and they're all moaning that hardly anyone on the train is wearing masks so you might not be the only one. Have a lovely day at the zoo!

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 08:36

I have seen buses totally empty and if you are going in the middle of the day too should be really quiet

wanderings · 28/07/2020 08:37

@dingit Best of luck to your son. I suppose he and the examiner have to wear the mandatory muzzles?

I was a driving instructor some years ago, I don't envy those in that profession right now.

Littlebelina · 28/07/2020 08:41

Just said pretty much the same to dh. Infrastructure is what is needed. There is a good cycle path from our village to the nearest town which I'd happy to use to take the kids into town but to get it I'd need to cycle about half a mile along a very busy road and there is about the same again at the other end. Ds isn't confident enough and I wouldn't feel safe enough with dd on the back.
pearlypidge · 28/07/2020 08:43

Does anyone else find it amusing that on one hand, the government are having a big anti-junk food drive, and on the other, Macdonalds are participating in the eat out scheme?

rookiemere · 28/07/2020 08:50

@SockYarn thanks for the dine out voucher link. We'll certainly be taking full advantage, as some lovely local restaurants, which isn't going to help the war against obesity that much !

To be honest though, I'm not sure the scheme is going to have the desired effect. I think those of us comfortable with going out will continue to do so and maybe make a few extra outings. But those that aren't happy going out - and to be fair, the additional risk of being caught out through track and trace is a real dampner- will stay at home eating dust and pouring cheese into their coffee.

Also excitingly have been given a totally gratis pre opening invite to our favourite Brazilian steak house where they bring the food round on skewers to your table. Even mardy DS14 loves it as he gets to stuff in as much practically raw filet mignon as he can .

ISaySteadyOn · 28/07/2020 08:51

Thanks for the reassurance. I can't wear sunglasses over my specs but midday should work and I can do nothing but try. Also, as DH pointed out, it's a disability discrimination case waiting to happen. Wish me luck?

Had an emergency appointment at the dentist yesterday. Getting in was really over the top but I was in too much pain to care. Every time I eat or drink I get a stabbing pain up my face but the dentist thinks it's a sinus problem rather than a tooth, though it could be a dying nerve. So I have to inhale vick for a week and then go back to have all the tests done again.

Dowser · 28/07/2020 09:22

I had two dental appointments since they reopened
One to see my cracked teeth and two to repair them

All fine

I even wrestled the toothache from hell to the ground when they were shut. I used various homeopathic remedies. My medical Dowser found strep viridianS in the tooth, I also took other remedies, hepar sulph for infection and silica, these you can buy over the counter. He also suggested the herb golden seal. I get the tincture from natures answer. He said to take it internally and rub on the gum..tastes foul..but you’ll do anything
I also rubbed diluted dmso on my cheek and took lots of colloidal silver
It was waking me at night and I was in agony.
I also took ear pain remedies and narayani for ears, teeth and trigeminal nerve
The pain was shooting up into my eye and into my ear and down my neck

I nuked it with everything as I didn’t want antibiotics and I got the pain down from a 10 to next to nothing. I’m keeping a watchful eye on it. Any slightest twinge and I’m onto it now

@dingit good luck for your son. I got,y grandson driving lessons for his 17th in June..still waiting for the licence 😡

Lockdown in Tenerife was quite surreal. Maybe because we weren’t there long enough. It went into effect on the Sunday, well we still went out and about but it was chilly.
We came home on The Wednesday .
Was about to. Look for flights for October but now dont know what to do.
My dd says go
She might be right

@incognitomum

Eurghh am awake. My body clock had gone to shit. Might be menopausal? I read about some magnesium butter for feet that helps but it was 22 quid. Amazon had some arriving tomorrow gor 8.99. See if it helps?

Nice non D cafe visit today whilst service user was in a meeting. It isn't a posh cafe, it's one of those big ones with fixed tables. But was relaxed. No panicky faces or masks.

Panadol night good for knocking you out of finding it hard to sleep
