Deliveries:- Anyone else had this?

tobee · 27/07/2020 21:46

Since lockdown I've (like many of us) had quite a lot of deliveries from various sources. We're shielding my dh and all delivery companies are happy to leave the item on the doorstep and I shout thanks through the door.

EXCEPT DPD! They insist on taking a photograph of me! They won't let me be photographed through the window. I have to open the door while the stand back and take my photo! Quite often I've been woken up and this is the last thing I could do with.

What possesses them to think this is in anyway an acceptable idea? Or am I just ridiculous and everyone else thinks it's fine?

I got sent an email from them telling me about an upcoming delivery and I was able to opt to stick a note to door explaining we were shielding, but the delivery driver laughed and said it didn't work like that. Took my photo!

I got an email from dpd to review them on trustpilot and I very firmly and politely complained.

Anyone else had this with dpd?

Fwiw it's always the same driver.

Thanks!

I am crying with laughter and I know that’s not the response you were after. Sorry.

My DPD driver just leaves it at the door - he might well take a photo but I am never asked to be in it!

JustMeAndMyTins · 27/07/2020 22:04

To clarify - it was imagining the photos he takes that tickled me. I’m normal and sympathetic, I promise. 😂

pepperycinnamon · 27/07/2020 22:05

We have a dpd delivery every week since March and this has never happened.

Todaythiscouldbe · 27/07/2020 22:05

My Dpd driver never needs me to be in the photo either, he takes a photo of the parcel by the door.

StrawberryScentedThings · 27/07/2020 22:05

Mine takes a photo but just of the parcel at the door..

Dollywilde · 27/07/2020 22:07

Yeah, mine takes a photo but I’m never in it thank fuck Grin

Oldraver · 27/07/2020 22:09

We always have a laugh and check the photo as usually it's just my feet in the photo

Is he wanting a full on photo ? Mine just need the door open with the parcel to be seen

Queenoftheashes · 27/07/2020 22:11

I answered the door to dpd the other day and he just put the parcel down in front of my door and took a photo. I was not in it.

mosquitofeast · 27/07/2020 22:13

We get photos taken, it has to show me and the number on the door. It is instead of signing

Magicshoppingtrolley · 27/07/2020 22:13

Mine has started taking photos of the parcel in the doorway - apparently a few parcels were going missing so they now have to show they were placed inside the house.

The first time they did this I asked whether I should be in the photo - the driver gave me a Hmm look and told me “no thanks love” Grin

IAintentDead · 27/07/2020 22:20

My Amazon delivery driver had to age check me today.

He was so embarrassed, I just thought it was funny. I'm 65 and the delivery was a knife (for my son for fishing so I guess quite an aggressive knife)

tobee · 27/07/2020 22:21

Interesting responses!

Hmm, not conclusive though. I'm getting to the stage where I wondered whether he's just doing to piss me off. Or so he can laugh at the photos back at the depot or something!

I'm not at all the kind of person who goes on about "infringing my rights" but this is too much. It's not even as if the parcels are worth much.

I'm not on Twitter so I can't call them out on it or anything. It always feels like he's taking a full length one of me scowling in my jimmies! Angry

I've had some age checks due to alcohol deliveries (other companies) but the guy has always been happy for me to wave my driving license through the window.

Have you made a complaint with DPD in the past? They may be trying to protect themselves from fraudulent claims

tobee · 27/07/2020 22:28

No, no complaints! I never want to complain much to the driver either because not his fault of he's genuinely been told to by his company!

Urgh! Im honestly not a paranoid type. I can't do anything about it because it's not obvious dpd are going to be delivering. Maybe I should just leave the door open with the parcel inside and he can photo it but it feels like I'm being precious!

I’ve had one take a photo of me, for whatever reason, I thought the appropriate response was to give the double thumbs up and an idiotic grin like a complete prick. Don’t know why I did it, made myself laugh though thinking about it afterwards 🤦🏻‍♀️

Turkeydrumstick · 27/07/2020 22:32

Sorry but this made me laugh too! Our guy always takes a photo of it in the doorway but is quite apologetic about it and says he has to. I always dodge out of the way though- he’s never said I have to be in it.

Hairthrowaway · 27/07/2020 22:32

Perhaps email/tweet DPD and generally ask if taking photos of household members is normal procedure now, even if the household has potential COVID symptoms or are shielding, as it’s a bit weird to have such an immovable policy in the pandemic.

You don’t have to give any identifying information such as the tracking number etc so they won’t take it as a complaint against the driver if you don’t want them to. And tbh even if you do complain, I doubt they’d do anything to the driver. I had one who would sign parcels in my name whilst I was at work and he continued after the complaint.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 27/07/2020 22:34

Our DPD driver just takes a pic of the box in the doorway. I work for a different courier company and the amount of claims for non receipt are going through the roof since Covid as we're not getting signatures anymore. Maybe your driver has had accusations made and is covering himself?

Hairthrowaway · 27/07/2020 22:34

They did post me a personalised apology biscuit though Grin

Jojo19834 · 27/07/2020 22:42

DPD do this, but as they are by far the better delivery company around here I have no complaints. I’d rather they took delivery seriously unlike Hermes who do what they like and fake signatures on your behalf (well before lockdown). Mine needs door open and parcel which is fine

MadisonAvenue · 27/07/2020 22:46

Our DPD man has been taking a photo of the parcels in the open doorway, usually with the dog getting in the shot 😂

beepbeepsheep · 27/07/2020 22:48

Perhaps the DPD man is compiling the photos for some sort of post lockdown art project? Perhaps he likes the cut of your jib OP? Could be the beginning of something glorious.

tobee · 27/07/2020 22:49

Right I'm going to leave the door open now and disappear!
