Deliveries:- Anyone else had this?

Since lockdown I've (like many of us) had quite a lot of deliveries from various sources. We're shielding my dh and all delivery companies are happy to leave the item on the doorstep and I shout thanks through the door.

EXCEPT DPD! They insist on taking a photograph of me! They won't let me be photographed through the window. I have to open the door while the stand back and take my photo! Quite often I've been woken up and this is the last thing I could do with.

What possesses them to think this is in anyway an acceptable idea? Or am I just ridiculous and everyone else thinks it's fine?

I got sent an email from them telling me about an upcoming delivery and I was able to opt to stick a note to door explaining we were shielding, but the delivery driver laughed and said it didn't work like that. Took my photo!

I got an email from dpd to review them on trustpilot and I very firmly and politely complained.

Anyone else had this with dpd?

Fwiw it's always the same driver.

Thanks!

@beepbeepsheep

Perhaps the DPD man is compiling the photos for some sort of post lockdown art project? Perhaps he likes the cut of your jib OP? Could be the beginning of something glorious.

Lol!

Could it be anything to do with the value of the item?

Pixxie7 · 27/07/2020 22:56

Or perhaps you have an admirer.

NC111 · 27/07/2020 22:57

@tobee

Do you have the dpd app? If you do you can check if the photos he's taking actually fully has you in it or if it's just your feet next to the parcel (which is what my photo was) I was mortified, had just woken up and hair like a hedge 😂 so went on to check my actual face wasn't in it 🙈

May09Bump · 27/07/2020 23:21

Similar - door ajar. TBH worked in our favour as laptop delivered to wrong address and we had proof.

Redglitter · 27/07/2020 23:26

My DPD deliveries specify they'll take a photo of the parcel at an open door. Usually it consists of the parcel and my feet. I can completely understand the logic in the open door photo but the drivers never insisted I was in it.

To answer questions

Items not valuable
He could be taking a photo of my feet but hasn't told me
I don't think he's an admirer unless he likes overweight 52 year olds with a scowl!

Haha when lockdown began there was a Twitter thread where people posted their awkward delivery photos! Wish I could find it as was hilarious

PineappleSquosh · 27/07/2020 23:39

My friend said it’s company policy for DPD to require a photo of you. Apparently they were satisfied with a photo of her hand waving out of the front door. It’s just to prove you were home and accepted the delivery.

icebearforpresident · 27/07/2020 23:39

Im the same as a PP, DPD always take a photo of my item in the hall, they sit it down and take the photo once I have opened the door.

I was clicking about in the app a few weeks ago and found that you can see the photos they have taken, my feet are in them all and in one I’m wearing odd socks 😆.

mum11970 · 27/07/2020 23:40

I had a DPD delivery today, pretty sure he took a picture with my feet and the parcel in it when I opened the door. Unless he’s stood pretty far back he’s not going to get your whole body in with the parcel.

Menaimum · 27/07/2020 23:41

My DPD driver has never asked for a photo of me! He has done a photo of packages on my step and has a reference photo of my front door so flooring matches etc. He knows I'm shielding too and is very courteous. I have the app downloaded so I am really updated constantly as the packages come from a depot which is 47 miles away. IMO your driver needs a complaint lodged.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 27/07/2020 23:41

I've just realised that I must have been photographed by a dpd driver this morning! I wondered why he was still standing there when most of the delivery drivers seem to knock and run. Can't remember if I was dressed or not?

CarolVordermansArse · 27/07/2020 23:45

I had a DPD delivery the other day. Package was on the step, driver down the driveway, he took a photo and ran off.

Package was for a completely different road. If he hadn't been so busy on his phone when he arrived he might have noticed.

Never had a successful DPD delivery yet. Not one, so not surprised about the service you received.

Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 23:47

Never noticed a camera on them but omg I would HATE that.

Megan2018 · 27/07/2020 23:56

DPD don’t take any photos of us at all?! Weird. They may photograph the item, I’ve no idea, but they never photograph us or the item when we are there.
We have probably 2-3 deliveries by them a week too.

tobee · 28/07/2020 00:02

So there's an app that has all the photos of you answering the door on it? Yeah there's absolutely no way I'm going to be downloading that!

OP posts:
jessyjo2 · 28/07/2020 00:02

Surely they would actually need your authority to take your photo.

tobee · 28/07/2020 00:04

You would have thought they'd need you to authorise but maybe it's tucked away in t&c somewhere? Difficult to argue if you want your stuff, isn't it?

OP posts:
Passmethecrisps · 28/07/2020 00:10

Whilst the OPs situation is unpleasant I have to say some of the scenarios have made me laugh.

We had Hello Fresh with DPD and the chap would take a picture of the box sitting in the open door. Maybe my feet were in it but he angled the camera so particularly that there was no way o was in it.

Our local Hermes lady has started bringing the whole fam along. One races out and flings a parcel at the door while the parent revs the engine harshly. If you get to the door on time they all wave most cheerfully while they wheelspin down the road.

Passmethecrisps · 28/07/2020 00:12

Thinking about it, I think I was once asked to take a step back a bit so that I was out of shot. Surely no one in their right minds wants to be accused of taking pictures so you would think they would be super careful of it

tobee · 28/07/2020 00:42

While it massively pisses me off at the time being photographed I'm more than happy for people to have a laugh Grin

In a way I'm surprised they haven't had more complaints from people more assertive than me!

OP posts:
MidnightBlue28 · 28/07/2020 00:48

Yep, I had a blazing row with a DPD driver last week as he insisted he had to put the parcel inside the open door and take a photo of it. Their alleged ‘Make It Right’ team (who I contacted via Resolver) are next to useless too! I ended up closing the case because I was talking to a wall and getting more irate instead of less.
