Deliveries:- Anyone else had this?

Since lockdown I've (like many of us) had quite a lot of deliveries from various sources. We're shielding my dh and all delivery companies are happy to leave the item on the doorstep and I shout thanks through the door.

EXCEPT DPD! They insist on taking a photograph of me! They won't let me be photographed through the window. I have to open the door while the stand back and take my photo! Quite often I've been woken up and this is the last thing I could do with.

What possesses them to think this is in anyway an acceptable idea? Or am I just ridiculous and everyone else thinks it's fine?

I got sent an email from them telling me about an upcoming delivery and I was able to opt to stick a note to door explaining we were shielding, but the delivery driver laughed and said it didn't work like that. Took my photo!

I got an email from dpd to review them on trustpilot and I very firmly and politely complained.

Anyone else had this with dpd?

Fwiw it's always the same driver.

Thanks!

See, these are the threads I joined MN for. Grin

Ludicrous policy - but I don't think they've actually got a photo of me.....
Last week was farcical. I was just going out as dpd driver pulled up outside a neighbours house. I asked if he had a parcel for me as I'd had a message & was expecting something on next day delivery.
He did have but had to wait 2 mins after delivering to neighbour & get me to reopen my front door so he could get his picture. It wouldn't let him take it immediately.

See now, I'm obviously very shallow, coz I've been thinking, "if someone's been periodically taking photos of my feet all these weeks I really should have been painting my toenails all this time!"
🤔😬

Answer the door with a mask on and topless. That'll get him.

I'd hate it but think its a good idea for proper proof of delivering it & know you can check photo's on the app less likely to be weird.
My amazon delivery just left parcel on doorstep and had driven off by time i got to the door. Have also seen so many posts about Hermes not delivering parcels & then hassle getting refunds from companies as Hermes claim to have delivered it.

PhilCornwall1 · 28/07/2020 04:16

DPD have never done this at all and they deliver to us regularly.

tobee · 28/07/2020 05:22

Love that dog! Grin

I suppose I should be grateful they're not slinging my deliveries of bone china over the hedge a la YouTube videos!

You might live in an area with a lot of scammers. I sell online and there are lots of dodgy customers who claim not to have signed for their goods despite the courier or Royal Mail saying otherwise.

gamerchick · 28/07/2020 11:03

They have to do it because you can't sign for it. It's the prove its been delivered to the right place.

Honestly, this thread. Poor drivers having to do as they are told or get disciplined for it Hmm

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 28/07/2020 11:06

We won't ask you to sign for your parcel, we'll take a photo of it instead in your open doorway as proof it has been delivered. If you're self isolating, leave a signed note on your door, telling us where to put the parcel.

This is what it says on the emails I have had about deliveries by DPD, so it shouldn't need you in the photo.

MadisonAvenue · 28/07/2020 11:08

DPD took this photo of my dog examining the poor condition which the parcel had been delivered in.

Our DPD delivery guy is very specific about the pictures he takes. The door must be slightly but not wide open, and the parcel must be inside the door frame and I must be behind the door so I'm not in the pic. Perhaps he likes you OP? Grin

TheFallenMadonna · 28/07/2020 11:14

I'm getting a DPD delivery today and on the email telling me when to expect it, it says "if you are self isolating, put a signed note on your door telling us where to leave the parcel".

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 28/07/2020 11:46

Our dpd driver leaves the parcel in the step and steps back after ringing the bell but has explained he needs a picture with the door open and I don't need to be in it, waits until I move away and very pointedly has the phone/device pointed down so at most it's my lovely slipper collection that gets in the pics. I know he's had some shielding customers so he makes sure he keeps away though does ask for the door to be opened and gives time.

Better than some who just leave the parcel on the step and don't even bother ringing or knocking - that's been great in rainy weather.

SoupDragon · 28/07/2020 11:56

@jessyjo2

Surely they would actually need your authority to take your photo.
They aren't taking your photo though. I've just looked at mine and there seems to be one that has my legs in it but that's it. The rest are of parcels in a variety of positions on my doorstep with an open door visible.
TabbyStar · 28/07/2020 12:21

Never had it. I would find this creepy, and definitely wouldn't want them taking a picture of my teenage daughter who most of the parcels are for anyway.

SoupDragon · 28/07/2020 12:28

What is creepy about a photo of a parcel by an open door?

longtompot · 28/07/2020 12:35

I'm pretty sure mine just takes a photo of the parcel on the floor with the door open. I hope I'm not in any Shock

Love the one of the dog answering the door Grin Lovely doggo

TabbyStar · 28/07/2020 12:36

Creepy if he's taking pictures of the OP. We don't open the door, I don't think they even ring, but maybe that's because we have a porch.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 28/07/2020 13:09

Our DPD driver says he isn’t allowed to have any faces in the photo so takes a picture of the package by my feet. Leaving it on the doorstep isn’t secure and they are then responsible if the package is swiped before you go to the door.

Taking your photo from a two meter distance is safe even if you are shielding.

MahaMoon · 28/07/2020 13:13

My dpd driver is lovely. I take in parcels for my whole road because I’m the only one who wfh. He never takes a pic of me, just of the box outside the door. I think he may be taking the piss

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 28/07/2020 13:14

It always feels like he's taking a full length one of me scowling in my jimmies!

Just check the tracking of your parcels.... I bet you’ll just see photos of your feet!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/07/2020 13:20

My driver told me he had to take a pic of the parcel in open doorway to prove someone was in, when i raised a thumb and got my best smile ready he said no need, they aren't allowed to take a photo with peoples faces in just doorway so feet maybe
