Girding my loins to brave the rain for some vegetables, OH and DS still on caveman diet, so haddock and veg. it is. I am going to have a baked potato with mine though.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 16:01

It's pissing down here too.

justasking111 · 27/07/2020 16:10

The 11 levels of Irish rain could apply in Wales as much as any part of the west of the Britain. Soft my arse Grin

It's just been L8 hooring here. Deafening in the conservatory for 3.5 minutes until there.was a 24 second blast of sunshine and now back to greyish and a bit mardy.

I quite like Irish rain. There's normally at least 20 seconds of sunshine per day and less pointless days/ weeks of malingering perma-gloom. God I hate perma-gloom.

wanderings they are nose bras in this house

justasking111 · 27/07/2020 16:58

Well stopped raining so slipped out for a few bits from the co-op, there was a queue, blooming windy and cold in just a jumper. Had to smile there were traffic light systems going they are putting in those mahoosive speed bumps outside the school across the road. OH thought it funny because the welsh government have decreed 20mph in built up areas now. That is gonna confuse the tourists next year.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 27/07/2020 17:01

This grey weather makes my hair frizz! At least it makes me want to stay the fuck at home, but the dog needed a walk so frizzy is the order of the day!

TheGreatWave · 27/07/2020 17:05

My home area is 20mph on side roads, my work area isn't. I piss off a lot of people when I am driving at 20 where I work (just habit)

PinkFondantFancy · 27/07/2020 17:12

I can exactly see where this fat shaming will go. Ive already seen "if you go on holiday, that's a foolish choice you made and you deserve all you got". Next it'll be "if you get sick and you're fat, that was a foolish choice you made and you deserve all you got"... Confused

Oh it absolutely will be. It will become a purity spiral. Any deviation from "the rules" (even the ones that are made up) will be enough reason to declare you unworthy of help - healthcare, financial aid, everything - because 'you deserve it'.

It's a particularly horrible side of human nature being showcased right now, that's for sure.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 17:21

They were being horrible to a BAME lady who was worried about shopping yesterday. Really weird, you would think would have more empathy.I saw that before as well.

Well, just went for a bastard walk and first, a woman pulled up in a car outside in tears..then another car stopped in the park two women, one said 'report to social services'...last time in the park a man walked past saying into his phone 'the worst f day of my life"

It seems every time I go out there is someone struggling.

I was just thinking too, things were in a way easier in the lockdown as no masks in shops (and the rate fell then as well) whereas now it feels even more restrictive than then, in a way.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/07/2020 17:23

MN has always been like that for eight though. I think many of them have eating disorders. I did point out on one thread, that the underweight and frail have a higher risk, and need good nutrition. It did not go down well.

Sallycinnamum · 27/07/2020 17:25

I take it you've all seen the 'friend has come back from Spain and isn't isolating so should I report him?'

It actually made me shudder when I read it. We had all this fabulous community spirit a few months ago and now its come to people reporting their friends and families. I just don't know how we've come to this hideous point. So depressing.

NannyPhlegm · 27/07/2020 17:32

Even months ago, when the community spirit was thriving, there were still public shamings. In my local area, one busybody posted on FB every Thursday about which street, in her opinion, hadn't clapped enthusiastically enough. Woe betide anyone who dared to not go out and clap like a performing seal. Oh, and look happy about it too!
PinkFondantFancy · 27/07/2020 17:36

@Sallycinnamum yep, depressing. Now I can see how easily 1930s Germany must have happened. :(

PinkFondantFancy · 27/07/2020 17:37

But yes there were always public shamings on social media. Mostly about people that hadn't parked straight enough for their liking in carparks, that sort of thing.

NannyPhlegm · 27/07/2020 17:51

As you say @PinkFondantFancy, these people have always existed and have always reveled in their judginess (is that even a word). But it's the Government who has currently pushed the narrative firmly in their favour and are giving them stick after stick to beat others with. As soon as one stick gets blunt, they rush to give us a fresh task so we can be judged all over again.

It's like Big Brother off the telly, but without any of the fun.

It's the State that I hold completely responsible for the utter shit state of affairs currently.

justasking111 · 27/07/2020 18:04

Bit baffled as to how they will enforce 14 day self isolation. Will the local police have your details and visit you once a day. If you have popped out for food what will they do.

When we get off plane, get on bus to car park, drive home popping into supermarket for bread, milk, basics. The next day between washing loads, make a list and get more food in but not enough to last 14 days.

wanderings · 27/07/2020 18:17

@NannyPhlegm It's so true what you are saying, the way the government is encouraging this frothing and public shaming, and probably doing it deliberately, even though they're pretending they're not. It's really depressing.

I wish that Keep Britain Free had more to say about this. Perhaps I'll suggest it to them.

@Orangeblossom78 I too agree that things feel worse now than they did in lockdown. Lockdown had to end because it wasn't economically viable, so there was hope, but the face nappies and other restrictions could go on for ages. Sad

HeIenaDove · 27/07/2020 18:40

A pp on this thread was right about the fat shaming Its started already

People just cant seem to see the Gov. are trying to shift the blame and dodge responsibility for their shitty handling of this pandemic.

HeIenaDove · 27/07/2020 18:48

Its also encouraging crash dieting which leaves you at risk of getting ill anyway.

This is a post from two years ago describing what happened to me 18 years ago.

I lost 10 stone 16 years ago.. I got gallstones and it got so bad i couldnt eat SOLID food. i went through months and months of excrutiating pain and A + E admission. In and out of A + E for TEN MONTHS. then doctors coming to my home to give me morphine injections whenever i had an attack . Finally a doctor prescribed me morphine pills which melted under the tongue that i took every time i had an attack. First attack was 3 July 2002 Scan was on 19 Dec 2002 after months of A + E admissions . Early Feb 2003 i got a letter telling me id have to wait for ANOTHER YEAR. I cried my eyes out and actually considered suicide. It was only after a private consultation with a surgeon and then another admission to hospital and an NHS appointment with the same surgeon that my op was promised within 6 weeks It was done 5 weeks later on 28 April 2003.id lost 8 stone by the time i had my op. The surgeon and two doctors told me it was caused by losing weight too fast. (slimming world) The pain was excrutiating and the first attack appeared after id lost nearly 4 stone. Back then i had no idea fast weight loss could cause gallstones I was losing a stone a month and whenever i did try to slow it down i either stayed the same or gained.

I actually did seriously consider suicide especially after i got the letter telling me id have to wait ANOTHER YEAR. I thought it was beyond cruel especially when id lost the weight by myself with willpower.

i believe due to mixing tramadol with as many over the counter drugs as i could in the early months to stop the pain i have been left with long term issues and its also left a bitter taste in the mouth TBH. Im grateful for the NHS but i was in so much pain i was thinking of overdosing (which i was bloody close to anyway) i also think the fact i won Class Slimmer of the Year and started to appear in our local papers may have been a factor in me getting the op sooner than that awful letter said but i shall never know

Channel 4 news did some pieces on care workers living in cramped shared dwellings and having to share kitchens with several other families.

Channel 4 news did a huge segment on care workers. And how they are under paid , under valued, classed as low skilled and why they cant socially distance due to the appalling places some of them live in.

A care worker interviewed lives in one room with her son and they share bathroom and kitchen facilities with ten other families
Hardly an ideal living situation to cook healthy meals

A care worker was ill with Covid for 28 days and was brought a hot meal every day by Hare Krishna She has to walk an hour to get to work and same to get home because she cant afford public transport

Then on another date they interviewed another zero hours care worker in poor housing.

@justasking111

Covid deaths - England 10 Scotland, Wales, NI, 0. That is continuing good news I would think.
The last death with covid - different to death FROM covid - in Scotland was 16th July. Before that, 8th July.

In fact, in the whole of July, Scotland has only had 6 (sadly) deaths.
