What tip have you heard about and been incredulous when it actually works?

I saw on Twitter that filling a ziplock bag with water and a few coins and hanging it in a doorway/placing it on the doorstep will keep flies out. It seemed such a bizarre suggestion that I thought I would try it and can confirm it works. I've also hung one near the bins and there hasn't been any flies around for a week.
Are there any other tips that I should know?

If you have dents in your carpet from heavy furniture, you can get rid of them by putting an ice cube on them.

Literally just put an ice cube on, leave it there, and by the time it's melted and dried, the pipe will have lifted. For a large dent you might need a couple of cubes, but it works really, really well.

Has anyone any tip for getting foundation (now gloriously dried in) off a wool carpet?
I'd also like to hear any tips about this

I really don't get the trouser thing. If my waist was the same as my neck I would snap on half!

Any suggestions for slight yellowing of an acrylic bathtub? I want gleaming white back but am scared of using anything too abrasive.

Love this, made me LOL! Does it need to be black?!

My tip is to get rid of verrucas - dab herbal lemon oil on every night with a cotton bud, for upto 3 weeks (eg. Neals Yard oil) and watch the bugger disappear. My son had a verruca for over a year and Bazooka made not a jot of difference! I was given this tip and had no expectations and was so amazed when it worked.

If you want to remove rust from your bike, soak a ball of tin foil in water, then rub it onto the rusty areas, i.e. handlebars. Works a treat, every time.

Hand sanitizer on felt tip stains (clothes)

If batteries have leaked in a toy, clean the terminals with white vinegar on a cotton bud.

I use scissors to cut pizza

Anyone know how to get Suncream off car seats and pram?

furrypompoms · 21/07/2020 07:06

Regarding the make up on a carpet. I knocked some liquid foundation all over my carpet. I tried white spirit on an absorbent cloth and it came off like a dream. I use it regularly now when I'm tidying up my make up box etc and wiping over the windowsill where I keep it all.

Does anyone know how to get parcel tape off a upvc windowsill? My DC decided to tape toys to the windowsill for no good reason whatsoever. I can't get the last layer of it off.

@KitchenDancefloor

Have you tried rubbing alcohol? It’s great stuff, I’ve used it for all things since discovering it. Cheap as a little goes a long way... got from Amazon

Heat stops itching from mosquito bites. Use a hairdryer to blast the bite with as much heat as you can handle or run a spoon under hot (not so hot you'll burn yourself!) water and press it to the bite.

Fish eggs can be on plants or pond weed that you add to the pond, et voila - fish!

Would this work on rusty golf clubs too?

Avon skin so soft in woodland fresh works as an insect repellant.

A light covering of baby oil and then wiping with kitchen roll will bring up stainless steel appliances a treat.

Soaking whites in Napisan will work to brighten them up.

Shaving cream or foam works really well on makeup stains.

Nasamu143 · 21/07/2020 09:20

I made the mistake of using Avon skin so soft while camping in Canada having heard it was a mosquito repellent. Believe me, it really, really isn't. I'd urge you not to find that out 200 miles away from the nearest DEET purveyor.

I wonder would the verucca remedies apply to warts as well 🤔my son has a wart on his nuckle and we just cannot get rid of the pesky thing. Using Bazuka ultraportable weeks & weeks and it just takes top layer off.

I always boil sausages and chicken breasts before barbecuing- it means they are cooked and just need to be browned.
I have a fear of worms in the pork meat and salmonella in raw chicken.

I think it might depend where you are. It has always worked for me. But I've only used it in France and a couple of Mediterranean islands.

The hot teaspoon thing has also worked 90% of the time (press hot teaspoon against mozzie bite to remove the itch) but it didn't work for when my friend tried it.
