What tip have you heard about and been incredulous when it actually works?

I saw on Twitter that filling a ziplock bag with water and a few coins and hanging it in a doorway/placing it on the doorstep will keep flies out. It seemed such a bizarre suggestion that I thought I would try it and can confirm it works. I've also hung one near the bins and there hasn't been any flies around for a week.
Are there any other tips that I should know?

KEEPING COOL TIPS
Fill a hot water bottle with cold water to keep you cool in hot weather.
In fact just an empty hot water bottle works quite well :)
Or take a frozen plastic bottle of milk out of the freezer & use it as a cold water bottle.

How do Smiley hints below work please?

Please does anyone have a tip for getting lily pollen out of a white top, I didn’t notice it until it had been through the wash and was about to be ironed.

The 2p thing is total magic. I have a freestanding bath and the chrome waste pipes were so awful I was considering replacing them. I just sorted them with a 2 p coin,

@TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun

It's kind of gross but, spitting onto blood stains to help wash them out! My mum told me this as a teenager when I first got my period. Didn't do it for years, then I tried it - yep, actually helps! My underwear is saved Grin

Why bother spitting? Simply soak in cold water overnight.

Given the seriously heavy periods I suffered from, and DD still does, I haven't got that much spit.

Vicks for stinky feet. Rub it all over clean feet.
Sunshine will remove stains like blood and ketchup
Ketchup will help beat rallies green tinges in hair. Slather it on leave for 10/20 minutes and wash out
Fairy liquid get showers squeaky clean and shiny
Make ice cubes with the juice you will be drinking
Give dogs ice cubes On a hot day
Vinegar will kill smells and is a natural disinfectant the vinegar smell WILL go away
Wash windows with fairy liquid and wipe down with NEWSPAPER for a super sparkly shine
Wash quilt covers and pillow slips inside out for ease. It will be so much easier to put back on
Use an old razor to get bobbles out of clothes

Thank you ig :) I looked for it in my history after posting my post - bit daft of me not to do it first! It didn't help tho :( It kindof wasn't there I don't think.
Also - it shouldn't be necessary surely?!
I'm sure Ive had same problem on mumsnet in the past.
Ive just looked up my history with control and H. Much easier than my usual way - excellent thank you :)

@Nunoftheother

Why can't I get the limescale tip to work??

Are you gently rubbing the 2p or using it to scrape?

I don’t know about banana peel but the only thing that’s gotten rid of my verrucae completely and permanently is liquid nitrogen. I paid around £50 for a beautician and don’t know if I got ripped of as it seemed quite steep but I was desperate

I knew about cleaning tarnished silver with foil and bicarb, but I'd never done it; until I found a couple of silver spoons while clearing out a kitchen drawer during lockdown. (One of those "everything" drawers) It works a treat.

Oh oh my favourite. Cure for hiccups.

When someone hiccups you say calmly “ I will give you a tenner if you can do that again”.

Works every time.

During spider season, leave the big skinny spindly ones alone. Let them stay in their nooks and corners of ceilings in their webs and they'll stop the horrible giant black house spiders coming in.

We've always been plagued with both types and every spider gets caught and thrown outside.

However this year I've left all the spindly ones alone...they generally stay up in a corner or nestled behind furniture in one place and they don't bother me. And we've literally never had/seen one big black house spider since!

Honestly for several weeks a year we'd usually have the giant black ones frequently, racing across the floor from under furniture nearly daily - but not since spindly ones have been made welcome.

I had plantar fasciitis for months and couldn't get rid of it. I read a trick posted on mumsnet where first thing when you wake up you sit on the side of your bed and pick up a pencil from the floor with your toes and straighten your leg while your toes are gripping the pencil and repeat 10 times. After a couple of days doing this I was cured - I couldn't believe it!

Yoga. 1. Actually doing it rather than just buying a yoga mat and wearing yoga pants round the house 2. Doing 30 mins every day 3. Actually listening and breathing when and how she says.

Going to try this one ... someday

@ComeOnGordon

A friend taught me to defrost the freezer with a hairdryer. It’s a game changer. Put all the freezer food in the fridge, switch the freezer off then aim the hairdryer at the ice. Job done in 30 mins and the freezer stuff that was in the fridge hasn’t defrosted so can go straight back in

Desirable not damage the freezer?

To the Mumsnetter who recommended I put Fairy liquid on a grease stain (that had not come out of a cotton dress despite being washed with bio detergent ) and rewashing. Thank you.
It works.
