@ButterMeCrumpets

I think people like to 'lump' others in a category as they can't get their head round the concept that someone can share their values for one thing but be completely opposite for others.

Look at the elections and people saying that they are going to drop friends because they voted the opposite way. You even saw people questioning their marriage over it Shock. DH and I have voted differently on lots of things and have a 'agree to disagree' attitude.

It's the black and white attitude of I am kind/better than you if you don't agree with my opinion.

I really hate the way that things have moved in this direction over the last 5 years. Life is richer for a broad range of opinions if expressed respectfully and not at extremes.
PinkFondantFancy · 20/07/2020 15:00

I'm really upset about the talk today in all the media salivating over the prospect of compulsory vaccination, they're all very very excited about having vaccination passports and having to show your papers before you're allowed to do anything. I'm all for vaccination but absolutely utterly against compulsion, including by the back door. Bodily autonomy is critically important and this is the thin end of a terrifyingly dangerous wedge. @Worldgonecrazy I wasn't scared of covid but I'm terrified of this. I don't understand the bucketing into pro or anti. What camp are you in if you're pro them in general, just very anti compulsion?! Where there's risk there always has to be choice.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/07/2020 15:02

@NannyPhlegm

I am centre-left, Remainer, pro-vaccination, pro-science, atheist. Human rights, pro-Free speech even if I don't agree with what's said (actually especially if I don't agree....if your stance can't stand up to questioning, it's not a very robust stance)

I am anti-compulsory anything!

Yeah, I should have added atheist into my self description too!
PinkFondantFancy · 20/07/2020 15:03

Also upset about the head of the vaccine committee on radio 4 this morning basically saying if enough of you get the vaccine you'll be allowed your old life back, otherwise forget it. But then also said no data likely available this year. And also said no matter, vaccine probably available this year (?!?!), and anyway, none of this compatible with BoJo telling us we can have our lives back this year....

countrygirl99 · 20/07/2020 15:38

pinkfondantfancy you are making the mistake of expecting logical thought rather than knee jerk reaction to the latest Twitter trend. Much as I will be elbowing people out of the way to get the jab I would be totally against compulsion, that's abhorrent.

NannyPhlegm · 20/07/2020 16:26

pinkfondantfancy it's just the latest thing for them to froth over and wield a stick over the plebs with.
I have no issues having the vaccine. I probably won't fight to be first in line, but I'll have it in due course. But I will not stand by and watch compulsory vaccinations be forced through! Compulsory vaccinations are abhorrent

MaxNormal · 20/07/2020 16:34

There are you all seeing about vaccines being made compulsory?
This scares me to death. I'm not anti-vaxx at all but I mentioned previously that I got quite badly injured from a medication and since then I have horrible, unpredictable reactions to some medicatons, and the reactions last months. I already have PTSD and the thought of having a medication forced into my body is utterly horrific to me.

MaxNormal · 20/07/2020 16:37

Where not there!

TheOrchidKiller · 20/07/2020 16:37

Wish I had something intelligent to add, you are all putting it so well.

Basically I'm just tired of all this.

Had an embarrassing wobble today. Got lost out in the car & had to pull over and cry. It's the stress of everything and the promises that lead to nothing that are slowly wearing me down.

And now I've got to do the sodding shopping.

Lickyicelollies · 20/07/2020 17:01

I'm centre-left, pro remain (in the EU), very pro-vaxx (but nothing should be compulsory), hate masks (though will reluctantly don a visor in the supermarket just to avoid confrontation).

I've just been chatting to an old couple in a supermarket near Glasgow who had up until recently been shielding. I hope I helped them to be less scared. Maybe the AD mantra will spread by word of mouth...? I said "life is for living"

PickAChew · 20/07/2020 17:13

@SockYarn

Emirates have re-started their daily flights into Glasgow which approach the airport over my house.

It's another sign that normality is returning.

Good news for my parents' dog as the poor little mite hasn't had any planes to shout at :o
Supermarketworker06 · 20/07/2020 17:14

I've just been into work, talking to others about the mask rules being brought in this week. We don't have to wear them (government roolz!) but there's talk of management "preferring" that we do. Hmmmmmm.

I'm on holiday this week, hopefully it'll be sorted by next time I'm in. I'm sure there'll be customers ranting about staff not wearing masks, I'm bloody sick of it.

PickAChew · 20/07/2020 17:19

I'm happy to be vaccinated, too, but buggered if I would willingly be the one to force either of my autistic teens to have it.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/07/2020 17:20

I voted Remain and Lib dem- who we have here in Bath- however when I contacted them recently about school playgrounds and pools gave me quite a dementory reply about 'sad young deaths' 'high contact surfaces' and 'government being pressurised into opening' them.

Orangeblossom78 · 20/07/2020 17:22

I am also pro vaccine, we usually get the flu one, and might counter for trials of this new one, possibly (if not too dementory)

justasking111 · 20/07/2020 17:29

Ds has girlfriend staying he failed his test over xmas so was intending to resit this summer. Since he came home has refused to drive, today because his girlfriend was here he drove to shops and home again with us, a bit rusty but ok. So glad he has finally got behind the wheel again.

Girlfriend who had passed her test said her dad was making her drive him around lately because he thought she would benefit from keeping it up even though she does not have a car at uni.

We are losing automatic skills due to lockdown imo.

justasking111 · 20/07/2020 17:33

We did not even vote in referendum, moving house day so were very busy all day and forgot.

ILoveTotoro · 20/07/2020 17:40

@justasking111

You know what baffles me reading comments across the media.

Brexiteers = anti dementors + anti mask wearers + lockdown breakers

Remainers = dementors + mask wearers + shielding for the good of the lady in the next town who is vulnerable.

Why have they lumped them all together?

That does seem to be the assumption

I'm a remain voting lefty and have been a labour member and supporter all my adult life . I was a Labour candidate once for my city council and everything , full on lefty

Since all this though I've cancelled my membership and torn up my card. Because all of my many labour associates, who I once classed as friends and allies, have all been the biggest hysterical dementors going

LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/07/2020 17:42

Hi all! For the first day in ages I managed to start and finish work at a reasonable time. Victoryyyyyyyy!

Though I had a massive AD moment I've been dying to share with you all day.

Was in a meeting earlier and before it started we were all chit chatting. The subject of masks came up and our office dementor said "well if you would be uncomfortable in a mask, just think how uncomfortable you'd be on a ventilator"

I just replied without missing a beat "take that from Facebook? I'm pretty sure if I'm on a ventilator I'm in some kind of anaesthesia or coma situation so discomfort isn't really something that concerns me in that situation. After all I'll not be carting a ventilator round Primark"

LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/07/2020 17:43

I almost high fived myself.
Did get many complimentary emails after.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 20/07/2020 17:47

Loki - good!

Being an AD is much like being GC - you’re afraid to nail your colours to the mast until you snap in a rage! 😁

ILoveTotoro · 20/07/2020 17:53

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

I had a blissful hour swimming in the loch this morning. Water temp about 15 which is a vast improvement on my winter snowy swims!

General rule of thumb when you’re first starting out is one minute per degree of water temp until you’re more used to it.

I have a tow float - for ease of finding my body —although I’m lucky I’ve got enough flab my body will never sink to the bottom and be lost to the depths.

I wear sock-booty things because I bruise my feet stepping on sharp stones when my feet are cold and um... reduces the girly screaming if a weed hits my foot. 😳 in the winter I wear neoprene gloves and a hat too.

Oh that sounds blissful I would love to try wild swimming

ignores the fact that last week I could barely stand to go above the knee in the sea on holiday and I was also scared of jellyfish

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 20/07/2020 18:02

@LivinLaVidaLoki you definitely should have high fived yourself!

ILoveTotoro · 20/07/2020 18:09

@BogRollBOGOF

The masks thing is my final straw. I just hate seeing so many faces being obscured. There's no escape from it online. There's no escape from it in the street. And I'm already worn from 4 months of domestic boredom being aimless around the house. It's the sanctimony that's rubbing it in and ramping up my anxiety and resistance to the whole bloody thing. If they'd quietly come in at the start, I would have had more emotional fuel in the tank to have coped better.

THIS articulated EXACTLY how I feel

ButterMeCrumpets · 20/07/2020 18:09

The masks and ventilators argument is bizarre.

I mean why use a breathing tube in your throat and sedation when you clearly just should use a cloth mask Confused
