@justasking111

You know what baffles me reading comments across the media.

Brexiteers = anti dementors + anti mask wearers + lockdown breakers

Remainers = dementors + mask wearers + shielding for the good of the lady in the next town who is vulnerable.

Why have they lumped them all together?

I think it's mostly true ?
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 20/07/2020 13:45

I had a blissful hour swimming in the loch this morning. Water temp about 15 which is a vast improvement on my winter snowy swims!

General rule of thumb when you’re first starting out is one minute per degree of water temp until you’re more used to it.

I have a tow float - for ease of finding my body —although I’m lucky I’ve got enough flab my body will never sink to the bottom and be lost to the depths.

I wear sock-booty things because I bruise my feet stepping on sharp stones when my feet are cold and um... reduces the girly screaming if a weed hits my foot. 😳 in the winter I wear neoprene gloves and a hat too.

chocolatesweets · 20/07/2020 13:46

Brexiteers , anti maskers , lockdown breakers - they are angry , feel downtrodden for a reason.
I'm not a brexiteer but can understand fully why someone would vote brexit. What have they got to lose? (A lot) but they see that their life quality has diminished.
Lockdown breakers realise that quality of life is more important than quantity as their life has no quality left

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 20/07/2020 13:49

@chocolatesweets I voted remain but have been anti-dementoring for a good long while now.

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane I really want to get into wild swimming but I've only rivers by me. Am a bit scared of rivers. Lakes and sea are great though!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 20/07/2020 13:53

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito try this group: www.facebook.com/groups/outdoorswimmingsociety/?ref=share

There’s bound to be someone near you who knows the safe spots. Not safe to go alone anyway. If you drown you’ll be marked as sadly covid.

countrygirl99 · 20/07/2020 13:55

Well I'm a March going remainer, I'll wear a mask where I have to and adhered to lockdown apart from letting DSs GF stay a couple of days before it was allowed. But then I've always like to rebel against stereotypes 😊

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 20/07/2020 13:55

I joined something called Blue Tits which is a womens wild swimming group, they have them all over. I haven't actually joined a swim yet as they are all organised by Facebook and I'm on a self imposed ban.

I swam in the sea last week, was the warmest I've ever felt I think (English Channel, off Bexhill), but I do just throw myself in, can't be doing with slow and agonising cold, I prefer a short sharp shock!
It was shorter than planned because I managed to swim into the scratchy end of a groyne and shred my thighs on the rough barnacley bits, getting out with blood dripping down my legs wasn't a great look!I would love to have a nearby lake to swim in, as I don't like the taste of seawater. Rivers are OK but I get freaked out by things touching my feet.

I'm up for lock down lard thread, though I'm sure we had one recently and I joined it? Only posted once though...

And I obey the rules despite disliking them. Well, mostly.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/07/2020 14:00

Remainer, predominantly rule following, left wing anti dementor who thinks questioning the removal of our human rights is a good thing.

Jourdain11 · 20/07/2020 14:01

I didn't vote in the referendum as I have no vote here (except in local elections).

DH forgot to vote in the referendum - he had a school trip and forgot to arrange a postal vote, and when he got back the teachers went for a post-trial pub therapy session and - oops! It was 10 o'clock and they were still there drinking! Oh well, never mind. I was able to hold that over him ("you don't care if your wife and mother of your children gets thrown out of the country!") for a while...

IAintentDead · 20/07/2020 14:09

I voted remain,

I am a definite AntiD.

I didn't break lockdown although I think it should have just been for the 3 weeks and eased as soon as the NHS was coping with the numbers.

I am anti mask because to me there is more evidence pointing towards them doing harm rather than benefiting anyone.

I am pro vaccination (being an anti vaxxer is another label thrown at us) and strongly believe there is a great benefit from most vaccinations but believe in people's right to choose.

I think the Swedish was the most sensible approach and think ours should have been more like it - and quite probably would have been if BoJo hadn't caught the bug and frightened himself.

I think that now we have a better understanding we should be behaving as normally as possible because if there were to be a second wave (which I doubt) it could be better handled by the NHS now than in the winter and because, as things stand, people are scared there will be a second lockdown in the winter which , if it happened, would kill more people than the virus.

MaudesMum · 20/07/2020 14:12

I'm a lefty remainer, definitely an anti dementor, with mixed views about masks. I can see they play a role in preventing infection in crowded places (and support the idea that they're about looking out for other people), but hate the virtue-signalling all over social media that they're currently inspiring. Also, at this stage of the pandemic, I think they've only been mandated so that we all go back to the shops and therefore get the economy working again, which isn't going to work. I'll obey the rules (from Friday) as its not fair to put shop workers in an awkward position.

Mrsfrumble · 20/07/2020 14:19

I didn’t vote in the referendum because we were still living in the US and my ballot didn’t arrive in time. I would have voted remain. Of course we couldn’t vote over there either, only watch in horror as the state we were living in spent our taxes on botched executions. Then we saw the Trumpocalypse on the horizon so scarpered back to the mess that was post-referendum UK. It did feel a bit like choosing between a frying pan and a fire at the time.

rookiemere · 20/07/2020 14:22

I voted Remain.
I'm wishy washy slightly right of centre politically, Lib Dems are my spiritual home, but frankly living in Scotland my vote goes to however is most likely to keep SNP out of power. Their handling of this crisis has illustrated even further to me their lack of grasp of basic economics and the long term effect of prolonged lockdown.
Im ambivalent on masks. I don't think they have much positive effect as not worn properly - when DS was at Alton Towers a number of the rides squirted mist on to you thus rendering the mandatory masks particularly ineffective . however at the minute, I think there are bigger battles to fight and DSs education is my main prioritynow we have had our UK holiday Wink.

Ibake · 20/07/2020 14:22

I'm centre right, remainer, pro-vax, AD who will begrudgingly wear her mask.

What I will continue to do is shout positive news stories and question why we're not moving forward once we've got a drug cocktail that works because then what's the big deal re catching it?

DH is a Brexiteer and AD but not as vocal or rebellious as me. (At least I cancelled out his Brexit vote!!)

SockYarn · 20/07/2020 14:36

It's not true for me.

I'm very pro-Remain, and even moreso pro-vaccination. I am also very anti Scottish independence, or pro-Remain if you prefer. Politically very centrist.

ButterMeCrumpets · 20/07/2020 14:41

I think people like to 'lump' others in a category as they can't get their head round the concept that someone can share their values for one thing but be completely opposite for others.

Look at the elections and people saying that they are going to drop friends because they voted the opposite way. You even saw people questioning their marriage over it Shock. DH and I have voted differently on lots of things and have a 'agree to disagree' attitude.

It's the black and white attitude of I am kind/better than you if you don't agree with my opinion.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 20/07/2020 14:45

Centre-left remainer here (though Civil Service so I never express a view under my real name). Incredibly pro-vaccination, DD has had chicken pox and Men B ones privately as well as the NHS ones. But ferociously against compulsory vaccination.

Anti-compulsory mask, anti-lockdown, very concerned about the impact of the last few months of careless legislation in human rights and basic liberties.

ButterMeCrumpets · 20/07/2020 14:48

I see more job cuts in the news again today Sad. Feel for anyone losing their job right now.

NannyPhlegm · 20/07/2020 14:53

@Drivingdownthe101

Remainer, predominantly rule following, left wing anti dementor who thinks questioning the removal of our human rights is a good thing.
This is exactly me as well
Worldgonecrazy · 20/07/2020 14:54

Remained here. I’m more of the opinion that the mask virtue signalling comes from Brexiteers. I guess we always find it easier to other people who don’t think like us.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/07/2020 14:55

@TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair

That's a horrible feeling Mascotte - I can only say when I arrived at my hotel the other day it lifted my spirits so much. There is a lot of doom around but there are lots of people out there intent on enjoying themselves too.

I am so tired of this virus. I know I'm not the only one. The idea of it dragging on for months more is awful. I have felt better in the last week for not being online so much so I am going to get myself away from all the misery again. It is fascinating how some people seem to love it.

I'm trying to cut down a bit. Last week really knotted me up by Saturday and my appetite is flaky although that's not a bad thing for the lockdown lard Wink

Yesterday was a great escape.
Today I've been occupied by cleaning the house for my first houseguest... DS1's bestmate Grin My house now has the lovely sound of excited children chattering, and within 10 secs of BF walking out of his front door, all 3 children were rolling around gleefully on the front lawn and there was a little hug.

The masks thing is my final straw. I just hate seeing so many faces being obscured. There's no escape from it online. There's no escape from it in the street. And I'm already worn from 4 months of domestic boredom being aimless around the house. It's the sanctimony that's rubbing it in and ramping up my anxiety and resistance to the whole bloody thing. If they'd quietly come in at the start, I would have had more emotional fuel in the tank to have coped better.

I've never been a tribal person about anything. Centre ground floating voter depending on what's on offer. Reluctant remainer in a better the devil you know way. A bit Eurosceptic but Brexit threw up more questions than answers. I keep an eye on politics but don't tend to initiate discussion. Vaccinations, generally good.
Generally liberal in an improve life and opportunites way for all type way.

NannyPhlegm · 20/07/2020 14:57

I am centre-left, Remainer, pro-vaccination, pro-science, atheist.
Human rights, pro-Free speech even if I don't agree with what's said (actually especially if I don't agree....if your stance can't stand up to questioning, it's not a very robust stance)

I am anti-compulsory anything!
