Songs that make you sob

Sorry, I know this topic has been done before but...
Recently watched The Falling, and Florence Pugh sings Voyage To The Moon- it's only a brief moment, but I had never heard the song before and I cannot stop thinking about it. I've listened to Donovan and the Mary Hopkin version and I'm sobbing! Absolutely bawling my eyes out! It is such a sad sweet melancholy song. It's making me think of the DCs as babies and how little DD (4) is growing so big now...

Are there any songs that have given you the same reaction? I can't stop listening and crying!

Disclaimer- this may be a result of lockdown hysteriaGrin

You Have Been Loved by George Michael. The lyrics are about a mother whose son died. It's a beautiful song but definitely gets me.

Good Grief by Bastille. People think it's a pop song but if you listen to the lyrics he's singing about losing a loved one.

Slipping Through My Fingers always gets me!

Being Alive by Stephen Sondheim.

On a personal level, Simply The Best, the Long and Winding Road and Chain Reaction make me choke up when I hear them because they were played as the last songs at each of my darling grandparents funerals. I had truly wonderful grandparents and I miss them every single day.

Lastly and again, personal, is Haven't Met You Yet by Michael Buble. It's not sad at all, however it was released during my pregnancy with ds who is now nearly 10. I hadn't intended to get pregnant and I was absolutely convinced I was going to be a terrible mother and be unable to love my ds as my dad had been unable to love me. There's one particular verse "someday I know it'll all turn out, you'll make me work, so we can work, to work it out. And I promise you kid, I'll give so much more than I get. I just haven't met you yet" I used to sing that to my bump when I was listening to the radio in the bath 😂 and I'm pleased to report that my ds is the centre of my universe and I loved him immediately 💕

Fix you by Coldplay. Reminds me of my ds when he was around 3 and going through autism assessments, appointments, therapy. He wasnt bothered by nursery rhymes/kids songs but he lit up every time he heard this song. It then turned to being his calm down song, if he was overwhelmed this seemed to calm him. Makes me cry now as it reminds me of where we were and how far along he has come.

Another vote for slipping through my fingers: I heard it for the first time this year, it was a complete shock: and I'm not even a parent.

Also the Cat Carol, a very sad and not so well-known Christmas song. That one is not for the faint hearted. Sad

I love lots of the other songs mentioned (Both Sides Now, Morningtown Ride, Eva Cassidy's Over the Rainbow) but they're not tear-jerkers for me.

I mainly cry at stupid non-sad songs, due to a linked memory, or a certain bit of a melody etc.

But an actual sad song that I can't not blub at is Its Quiet Uptown from Hamilton.

So many tear-jerkers mentioned here already, but my Nr. 1 is Janis Joplin at Woodstock singing "Bobby Magee" -" I'd trade all my tomorows for a single yesterday.............

@lobster12

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and for some reason every time I hear Husavik (my home town) from the Eurovision movie I just cry like a baby.

Normally it's the living years by Mike and the mechanics. It reminds of when I was young and my dad used to play it in the car.

Driving home for Christmas makes me tear up if I'm actually in the car and it's Christmas time.

My mum can’t listen to the living years.

A couple years ago I was at a Christmas Eve service and a lovely bloke and his wife sat next to me. Church was packed and we sang beautiful carols. I thought wow what a great voice this guy has. It wasn’t until afterwards when we were chatting that I clocked he was the singer from Mike and the Mechanics!

Oh so many! But lately, I’ve really got into Beth Nielsen Chapman. Such a pure voice & all her songs touch my soul. I particularly love “ Find Your Love” that was featured in The Calendar Girls “. I can’t listen to it without sobbing! And today I watched a video of a Welsh male voice choir singing “ Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables & I started crying more or less straight away. I think it was the fact that the guys were so ordinary but the music they brought to life was extraordinary - I found it incredibly moving

Fix you by Coldplay, Arms of an angel by Sara McLachlan, Glasgow love theme from Love Actually, Endless Love, and there's one (sad admission here) singer I see on youtube that I often play before I go to bed. Its Rachel Wooding and her audition of "with you" from Ghost the Musical on BGT. I have watched it literally a million times and the raw beauty of her voice, vulnerability and feeling literally moves me to tears.

@EdersonsSmileyTattoo - I just started crying when I got to your two songs, because I used to sing them to my DC, and I also struggled with pnd. Talk about a trigger!
So many others already mentioned, like Mike and the Mechanics. Also More than Words by Extreme. I had to pull the car over the first time I heard it.
