Songs that make you sob

Sorry, I know this topic has been done before but...
Recently watched The Falling, and Florence Pugh sings Voyage To The Moon- it's only a brief moment, but I had never heard the song before and I cannot stop thinking about it. I've listened to Donovan and the Mary Hopkin version and I'm sobbing! Absolutely bawling my eyes out! It is such a sad sweet melancholy song. It's making me think of the DCs as babies and how little DD (4) is growing so big now...

Are there any songs that have given you the same reaction? I can't stop listening and crying!

Disclaimer- this may be a result of lockdown hysteriaGrin

I don't know if this has been mentioned but:

Man of the world by Peter Green

Xfactor by Lauryn Hill. It was the soundtrack to my angst in a unrequited relationship.

At 17 by Janis Ian. Sums up being 17 perfectly.

@BrimFullOfAsher he was funny, opinionated, infuriating, talented, frustrating and beautiful.
He taught me so much about love, patience, strength and courage. His final journal entry said 'for what it's worth, I'm sorry'
He had nothing to apologise for, he stayed with us for far longer than he wanted until his illness became too much for him.
He was my beautiful blue eyed boy and I am so lucky to call myself his mum. I had 22 years with him and it wasn't nearly long enough but I treasure every memory I have.

@darumafan he sounds like he was a pretty cool young man. Adam's Song always gets me too, it's a hell of a song. Also Stay Together for the Kids and Reckless Abandon by Blink 182, not teary but definitely angsty.

You are my sunshine my only sunshine. It was the tune in a musical card my son bought for my mother when she was terminally ill. He was only 8 and when I opened it and showed her it and she heard the tune it was the last time she reacted to anything when I was with her. I am tearing up now just thinking about it.

Many songs by Sufjan Stevens make me cry, especially the one written about his mum dying but the first 3 minutes of each of his new songs make me cry for no rational reason whatsoever. His music just moves me.

Came on here to say Sufjan Stevens also but Chicago for me. Have no idea how anyone could not be moved to tears listening to this

Tracy Chapman Fast Car.

‘In the Ghetto’ makes me laugh because of Cartman’s corruption of it. Same as ‘Oh Holy Night’.

These two kind of make me joyously cry; ‘Old Man’ by Love and ‘Chicago’ by Sufjan Stevens.

If I wanted to cry after breaking up with someone I’d put on the album ‘No Need to Argue’ by The Cranberries. ‘I Can’t Be with You’ in particular used to have me blubbing my eyes out.

JorisBonson Softly is a beautiful song

Tell me there's a heaven by Chris Rea. I first heard this while driving and had tears running down my face so could hardly see where I was going

Wake me up by Aviici - "Wish that I could stay forever this young....."

Softly by Matt Monroe. Played at my Nana's funeral after she suffered from Alzheimer's for many years. Very fitting and poignant.

Five More Minutes by Scotty McCreary and It Won't Be Like This For Long by Darius Rucker - both because they are about time moving so quickly and make me think about how quickly DS is growing up!

Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy, no idea why other than that it reminds me of my teenage years riding around in stubble fields in late summer.

Into the Mystic by Van Morrison was played at my stepmum’s funeral, the only time I’ve ever seen my dad cry.

I love his voice and I can’t believe he’s not more well known.

BrandyandBabycham Sand and Water by Beth Nielsen Chapman is another one that sets me off.

“ Find Your Love” by Beth Nielsen Chapman absolutely destroys me every time. Actually a lot of her songs move me incredibly. And Eva Cassidy’s version of “ Over The Rainbow” always gets me. Another vote for “ Slipping Through My Fingers”, especially as DD11 has just started Secondary.

Fields of Gold - no idea why, but gets me every time.

Also this one. My god, the emotion in her voice. All the more poignant if you know the backstory. m.youtube.com/watch?v=DEaCDdTQvk4

Summer place always makes me choke back a tear, it was the name of my parents first home in 1960 when the song came out and became there tune, we played it at mums funeral in 2018 as they lowered her coffin, now it makes me sob but in a good way if that makes sense, just reminds me of my parents and how happy they were.

Boulder to Birmingham by Emmylou Harris, about the death of her boyfriend Gram Parsons. The line ‘the hardest part is knowing I’ll survive’ gets me every time.

Also Full of Grace by Sarah McLachlan (used so memorably at the end of Buffy season 2), Slipping Through my Fingers by ABBA, Dancing on my Own by Robyn, and Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Crawling by Linkin Park - makes me think of my son James who lost his battle with bipolar disorder. The lyrics always remind me of how hard he tried to stay with us.
Ain't no Sunshine by Bill Withers - it was his favourite song and his amazing friends carried his coffin into his funeral to this song.
Sunscreen by Baz Lurhmann - this was played at the end of his funeral, it destroys me every time I hear it.
Hurt by Johnny Cash - I have always loved the Nine Inch Nails version but this is far more poignant.
Heaven is a Halfpipe by OPM - James said that this was such a cliche for a dead skateboarder so it was used as part of the eulogy given by the minister at his funeral.
Everything I do, I do it for you by Bryan Adams - this was the first song that James really liked.
Adam's Song by Blink 182 - song about a teenagers suicide - the line that says 'Please tell mom this is not her fault' hurts so much, was it my fault?
