I don’t know how he lost it. I imagine it involved getting comfortable on the sofa with a coffee.

I hope you've taken his coffee off him and sent him out IN DISGRACE to find it, OP!

Snakeomg · 10/07/2020 20:18

We’ve searched all around to no avail sabbatical

OP PLEASE tell us your general area, even if it's just "East of England" or "North West England" or "Scotland" or whatever!

silentpool · 10/07/2020 20:20

This is exactly why I hate the idea of people being allowed to keep snakes as pets....

backseatcookers · 10/07/2020 20:21

And I didn’t mean to be rude people. As a herpetologist I get frustrated at the hysteria when people spot a rare escapee.

Calling people morons is generally rude isn't it. Calm down instead of snapping at random people on the internet who don't happen to know much about snakes.

Crunchymum · 10/07/2020 20:22

Told ya it was going to slither off.

Feel sorry for it though as it's not designed for the UK climate. Although it's getting a bit warmer down south.

I couldn't have caught a tarantula if I'd found one on my garden so I'm not judging you per se, but if I had, I'd have tried to find someone to catch it for me Sad

I was going to say the same - anyone of us could be living next door Shock
Furball · 10/07/2020 20:25

If he was thinking on his feet - he could of said the RSPCA came round and took him away Grin

Snakeomg · 10/07/2020 20:29

East of England spinning

I feel sorry for it too crunchy and am quite confident handling most wildlife but have no experience with snakes and didn’t want to get bitten by it. Venomous or not, a bite injects bacteria.

It’ll be in your pillowcase OP Grin

Yes more like a python. One of ours is a bloody escapologist! Usually find her hidden underneath the tanks beneath.

Poor thing won't last long there Sad

GameSetMatch · 10/07/2020 20:35

My MIL always tells me a story about when my husband was young, apparently he left his snakes door open and it got out, their elderly neighbour found it curled up in her cutlery drawer a few days later.
I’d of had a heart attack and probably punched my neighbours in the face and I’m not a violent person.

SpinningLikeATop · 10/07/2020 20:37

Oh Jaysus. I'm in the EoE. Shock
I'm going to hope that you are the other side of it from where I am... it's a big place!

SpinningLikeATop · 10/07/2020 20:38

For the record, I really, really don't like snakes but hope someone finds this one and rescues it. It doesn't deserve to suffer.

kyles101 · 10/07/2020 20:42

Wow, you definitely trump my snake sighting story today!

I totally understand people not liking snakes. They look slimy and are in lots of scary films. Some are dangerous. Personally, I love them but I've handled them from an early age - much to my mum's & nana's horror Grin. They feel very smooth and corn snakes feel quite cool to the touch. Each to their own. I wouldn't call people names for not liking them or being scared. I'm terrified of clowns, porcelain dolls and old style ventriloquist dummies like look like Jimmy Carr.

Hope snakey is ok.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 10/07/2020 20:56

Please put a trigger warning. I have a massive phobia of anything slithery. If that turned up in my garden I’d shit myself and have a heart attack. Even photos make me feel weird. A worm was in our kitchen once and I screamed and ran out the door...blergh!

LadyMuck111 · 10/07/2020 20:56

It will probably be hidden somewhere. Do you have any areas in your garden that it could get hidden in.
Years ago we rescued a snake that had been in someone's compost heap from Nov to about March.

SpillTheTeaa · 10/07/2020 21:01

Fuck that! I'd cry and the snake can have the house. I'm east of England! What area OP?! 😭😭😭😭

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 10/07/2020 21:01

@IwishIhadaMargarita I don’t think a trigger warning is necessary when the title of the thread makes it abundantly clear that it’s about a snake Grin

heyallyoucoolcatsandkittenss · 10/07/2020 21:06

Corn snakes like to burrow and tend to go along the edge of things the tend not to be out in the open for to long and most captive bred snakes don't carry diseases. Hopefully it turns up soon and gets back to its owner.

helpfulperson · 10/07/2020 21:11

Given the hysteria about the idea of a few sea monkeys being being flushed I think you need to phone 101 and get a full scale emergency search response to find this snake. Or just have a look around for it and if you see it throw a box or even a towel over it. It will be cold and tired and no danger to you.
