I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

@Paradiseinportugal

Boxer dogs called Uncle Bryn and Smithy. Chairman Meow? I realise this is a fluff thread but this seems the equivalent of calling your cat "Kitler". Very disrespectful to the millions who died because of him *@bronzeandglass*, maybe realise that people are allowed to joke about things.
I really doubt that you wouldn't raise an eyebrow if you turned up at a friend's house only to find that had named their new pet a cute version of Hitler or Stalin. Or how about a cute name of Ian Huntly or Ian Brady? Or are these things not fun anymore when they are closer to home?

Cats we have had have been named Ebony, Honey, Molly, Paris, Felix (foster), Jesse James and Agent J and Agent K who were identical tuxedo brother and sister from the same litter. Agent J is the only one still alive from that lot and is usually nicknamed Princess Fluffypants Gitface.

Dogs in the family have been Kes, Bess, Sam, Grumble and Megan.

Other dogs we have known have been Dan, Reno, Otis, Poppet, Juno, Max, Roxy, Romeo, Poppy, Beauty, Luna, Meggy, Stitch, Patch, Buddy

A golden retriever called Pukka, which I thought was ace. Not so much when I went on a walk with Pukka and his mum and when she was calling him back, it sounded very close to Fucker!!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 04/07/2020 23:10

I had two rescue cockatiels called Talwch and Amddangos - inspired by a car park sign meaning Pay and Display in Welsh,

My husband's dog is The Rev. Buford van Stomm B.D.

Our male kitten called Milo went in for neutering and the vet rang to say Milo was actually female. We changed the name to Myleene because 'I'm a Celebrity....' was on telly at the time.

Crunchymum · 04/07/2020 23:24

One of our neighbours has a Dave the Cat and Dave the Husband.

And Dave the Cat is female.

Yodasdog · 04/07/2020 23:33

I know a dog called Sheldon, I assume it's from The Big Bang.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2020 23:43

I rather regret not using the Macbeth dog names, McDuff and Spot. I do sometimes use these with my dog in the appropriate contexts though - 'Lead on, McDuff' for walkies and 'out, damned Spot' for the bedtime wee.

Goldenbear · 04/07/2020 23:45

Itch and scratch and for two cats.

Goldenbear · 04/07/2020 23:47

Only works with a pair of cats though!

YoBigMomma · 04/07/2020 23:47

My mate had a Maine coon called Chuck Norris.

Always made me smile thinking of the vet shouting out his name in a packed waiting room!

andpeggy1 · 04/07/2020 23:50

I really want a Maine coon male cat to call Hercules Mulligan

WildOrchids67 · 04/07/2020 23:53

Friends of mine had goldfish called Botox and Anthrax.

Ireallymustgotobed · 05/07/2020 00:00

Totally identifies me in RL but hey ho. My ex insisted on naming my last cat as a condition of me getting him as a kitten. He was called Yogi, but not as in Yoga or after the bear, it was the nickname of a Falkirk footballer. I wanted to call him Zebedee. New cat is a rescue so came with his name already.

I have often flicked through plant identification books for pet name inspiration. Had a childhood cat named Tansy and a rabbit called Yulan. Briefly had an Appaloosa pony called Appal (Apple) she was a bit mad though so went back.

whoknows2017 · 05/07/2020 00:15

My cat was called - TAXI - used to annoy my neighbours standing on my back door step calling him in every night....

whoknows2017 · 05/07/2020 00:16

... and I had a goldfish called - DINNER - my cat ate him ....
