I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

My cats are called Bonnie and Clyde. We also have a cat that comes in the garden that my son has named Aggy, as he gets aggressive if you stroke him to long 😂

WildRosie · 04/07/2020 20:37

I know I said upthread I would like my own Labrador called Briggs (it IS definitely butler-ish) but I would also like a pair of girl German Shorthair Pointers from the same litter. They would be called Ruth and Bonnie, aka The Pointer SistersSmile.

A Shetland pony called Alan
A cat called Wolfie
A succession of cats named after different fonts / typefaces (Garamond,Calibri etc)

Denzl the labrador

SpaceSharkTea · 04/07/2020 20:44

A 3 legged little bichon frise called Beckett who when given the chance to run off the lead in an open field hopped and bounced all over the place and was affectionately nickenamed Beckeroo like the kids game

DuckonaBike · 04/07/2020 20:44

Oh and today I met an adorable dachshund puppy called Saucisse.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/07/2020 20:46

DH had a cat called Sid (because he was vicious).

Friends inherited a dog called Captain, they adopted another one they called Tenille.

Also knew a particularly portly Labrador called Humphrey, which really suited him.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 04/07/2020 20:48

I have a 4lb Chihuahua called Rocky Balboa

spacepoppers · 04/07/2020 20:48

I had a friend called Jeff. I stopped by Jeff's house one day to drop something off and was introduced to his wife. Imagine my confusion when I heard the wife calling for the family cat 'Jeff, Jeffffffffy, Jeffreyyyyy'.
When I voiced my confusion she swiftly replied 'I called the cat Jeff, cos he stays out all fucking night too'.

Best. Name. Ever.

Cathpot · 04/07/2020 20:49

Allowed the kids to name the fish in the pond. They include Harmonious Quibble and Vulgar Display of Power.

JoysOfString · 04/07/2020 20:50

Friend had a cat called Sausage, which I thought was a fab name!

We used to stop and pet a dog on the school run whose owner always called it "Eyeball". I was too shy/didn't know them well enough to question it. After a couple of years I realised it was actually "Aibo" 🤦🏻‍♀️

Frokni · 04/07/2020 20:50

Our tomcat was called Mr Jim Business. Only Bobs Burgers fans will get it!

Lolly34h · 04/07/2020 20:59

We had cats called Eric and winston when I was a child
And we had a pair of gerbils called bubble and squeak.
We also had a dog and her name was puppy

Paradiseinportugal · 04/07/2020 21:06

Boxer dogs called Uncle Bryn and Smithy.
Chairman Meow? I realise this is a fluff thread but this seems the equivalent of calling your cat "Kitler". Very disrespectful to the millions who died because of him
@bronzeandglass, maybe realise that people are allowed to joke about things.

Witchend · 04/07/2020 21:07

Not a pet but ds aged 2yo named his toy dog Pirate Doggy. He was white with a black patch round one eye.

oralengineer · 04/07/2020 21:16

We had a black cat call Noi, he was originally named Noir but Ddad shortened it to No-ee. My cousin used to get confused and often called him Yes-ee. His brother was a much more conventional Tigger.

WildRosie · 04/07/2020 21:26

One of our Cocker Spaniels, several decades ago, was actually called Sally but before she was two years old she was widely known as Big Al in our family. Big Al had itself morphed into Alan before she died, aged 13 1/2. Two name changes and virtual gender reassignment in under 14 years is some going, especially when you're a humble spaniel.

We had a goldfish called Sid Vicious (because he had one black fin sticking up like a punk) I won him at a fair. He just kept on growing and so we gave him to my gran who had a large pond and he lived for many years terrorising the other fish!

My dog is Orla ('golden princess'..she's no longer golden but she's definitely a princess!)

My favourite is a Boxer I see daily on walks.. called Geoffrey Grin He's a lovely dog but thick as two short planks and you can forever hear his owner calling 'Geoffrey you've lost your ball..again...!'

MuseumOfYou · 04/07/2020 21:29

Our late departed dog was Gordon; a local spaniel is called Jeffrey and a friend of mine had three pugs, Douglas, Ernie and Frank.
