I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

My neighbour has brilliant cat names. She has a ginger called Kilmouski and a ginger and white called Gizmo. Apparently Kilmouski is named after Kowalski in the film Vanishing Point as he goes wherever he likes, whenever he likes so “ the question is not when is he going to stop but who is going to stop him”. And Gizmo is a little sod after midnight.

Septimus, that family’s 7th ginger Tom. Affectionately known as Mouse.

Um... we named all of our cockerels after dictators or despotic leaders. When we had land, we had several trios wandering about in their little territories. They included Napoleon, Adolf, Genghis, Stalin, Franco...

And I've just remembered our childhood cat was named Podgy.

In Mongolia the herders tend to name their horses after their colour because there are too many of them to name. I can only assume that there are many varied horse herds in Mongolia!

Great names, poor Oreo was somewhat short changed though!

My parents had a dog when I was a baby called Poggle. I've no idea where they got the name from.

I love the thought of someone shouting Gary across a field.

I once met a pug called Dave. For some reason I found that hilarious!

We have a cat called Cobweb - the fairy from midsummer night’s dream. Really struggling with inspiration for new pet though!
Peasebottom, Mote or Mustardseed. Or perhaps Puck, Titania (have fun calling for 'Titty') Oberon or Hippolyta . Lysander or Helena if you wanted something more modern perhaps?
