Sorry it’s a bit of a lame title.

I hate Microsoft teams. You have my sympathies.

Face to face is so much quicker and easier.

Cattermole · 03/07/2020 10:50

I find this an interesting app - covid19cct.shinyapps.io/covid19cct/

Breakdown by county by day. Our peak in Cornwall was about a week later than the DHSC's data, which is also interesting.... but you can see we have days at a time where no bugger tests positive at all.

Interesting too that the media spin on track and test is "one in four missed". Which means three in four ain't.

NannyPhlegm · 03/07/2020 10:55

I do follow rules but my instinctive reaction is always to say 'why?' and then if the answer makes sense I'm happy to comply.

This is me exactly! I love rules, it makes the world a safer and nicer place for the vast majority. But I like to understand the reasons behind the rules, and happy to comply if it's based on rationale and logic.
Roolz, on the other hand, can get in the bin

MaudesMum · 03/07/2020 10:55

@trappedsincesundaymorn (Hi from my bit of Somerset - where cases have effectively doubled. Cumulatively, they now stand at 121, out of a population of 114,000. Gosh.) - to be fair to Somerset Live, they actually explain the whole thing quite well in the article - its just no-one ever reads the bloody article.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/07/2020 10:55

I have to admit I watched education secretary briefing last night and I was happy when Jenny Harries pointed out that you cannot make everything in life safe all the time.

This is the message they should have been giving from the start though.

NothingIsWrong · 03/07/2020 11:00
@trappedsincesundaymorn I’d inform them why in a very patronising way....

I had a go on fb at a local dementor over a picture of an airport hanger described as a morgue to scare people at the start. It turned into a nasty local fb shitstorm but the dementors haven’t posted much on there since.
To be fair, there was one temporary morgue that was converted from an old aircraft hangar in Oxfordshire... I'm not sure it was ever used to anything like it's capacity.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/07/2020 11:01

Our local paper has just published that covid cases have almost doubled overnight...So now people are screaming for a local lockdown.

They have carefully put in "It is important to know that these are not new coronavirus cases but ones previously not included in the public health England data"

But that is buried way down in the article.

Bastards.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/07/2020 11:06

Just caught up.

I'm in S/E Wales just over the border in a city that when ever it's mentioned on MN it oh my god don't move there.

DH and I grew up different bits of midlands as have lived in various Northern cities southern cities/town and few more locations in midlands. Nearly joined rental thread yesterday about needing to rent till early 30s due to careers and moves and though fuck it you can't argue with stupid.

We've been very happy and pleased with Wales - till all this kicked off - even eduation system and GP/health system that MN said was terrible wasn't too bad for us.

Having said that just had to deal with youngest school - usual chaos them saying one thing doing another and other parents children ignoring everything said. They are going to try and do something for Y6 and the staff seemed very pleased to see the kids.

Then GP - where apparently you now have to shout your medical details across the car park into a small window. Only wanted a repeat perscription - have to go back next week to see if they can manage it then have whole thing of navigating at chemists who seem to be super cautious.

Worldgonecrazy · 03/07/2020 11:07

I really must avoid other threads. I had to read the post twice but one of the chiefs actually posted that if sars-Cov-2 keeps going it could kill all of us who make it to 80.

And they think the people who want a sane response to the disease are the crazies!

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/07/2020 11:09

Both my older kids asked their teachers what was happening in Wales in Spetember in schools and their teachers had no idea.

I think we're still waiting on guidance from Welsh education minister.

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb · 03/07/2020 11:09

This morning I have read the news (and yes the figures in our area have increased by about a third overnight Hmm) including a BBC article about the long term damage and terrified the fuck out of myself. It is nice to come here for a (is this a buzzword/phrase?) semblance of normality but to be honest, I also worry now that we are completely deluded and should be at home with our masks and hazmat suits. Especially as we seem to be such a tiny minority, especially compared to (most) governments all round the world....

I don't know. I'm far one of those freeman of the land knobheads but do also have a instinctive dislike for rules that don't seem to make sense (and even rules that do make sense, I actually had to stop going in a certain part of my gym years ago as they had a big red "do not press" alarm button and I knew one day I wouldn't be able to stop myself Blush)

God I've made myself sound like a right weirdo Blush Is there a word for things like that I wonder (yes, probably and it's "wierdo" Grin) please tell me I'm not alone!

That's plenty old enough for me - and I'm 65 so not too far away now. I don't want to carry on existing when I'm not able to actually live.
LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/07/2020 11:13

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb don't know if it helps but people weren't jumping out the way on school walk this morning as they did few even a few weeks ago and no masks.

Ibake · 03/07/2020 11:13

@bubble. You're not a weirdo, and if you are, then so am I. Your posts make me howl, especially your excellent use of thought brackets. You definitely sound like the voice in my head. If that makes us weirdos together then so be it, we'll be distinguishable only by the fact that you've got a mask on and I haven't Wink

trappedsincesundaymorn · 03/07/2020 11:14

That's the annoying thing. People don't read the articles before posting. There's lots of angry and crying emojis and all I want to say is it's less than half the population of my small housing estate.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/07/2020 11:19

I also have the ‘am I deluded’ moments. Then I read the actual stats, and realise that I am in fact just, well... sane!
I am not ‘queueing up to catch Covid’, as one dementor put it on a thread the other day. I am taking reasonable precautions not to catch it, just like I take reasonable precautions not to catch any virus. I also don’t want to spread it to vulnerable people, but that swings back to the fact that if I don’t have it then I can’t spread it, and I’m taking reasonable precautions not to catch it! I’m not ‘flocking’ anywhere. I’m not being reckless or irresponsible. I’m happy with my position.

NannyPhlegm · 03/07/2020 11:20

Bubble you're not a weirdo at all! A big red button has no business being in public sight. And sign saying Do Not Press is just asking for it imho Grin

I'll admit having moments of doubt as well. But I keep coming back to the figures. The numbers as they stand right now are not scary, it's the rhetoric behind them that is. It isn't my brain reacting to it, it's my gut that whips up fear in response.

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I love Wales and have never regretted making it my home. Until this shitshow. I have no intention of leaving, as I love my life here too much. But I really really really want this Groundhog Day of a nightmare to come to a speedy end

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/07/2020 11:20

I had to read the post twice but one of the chiefs actually posted that if sars-Cov-2 keeps going it could kill all of us who make it to 80

And the problem with that is...?

Willitneverend · 03/07/2020 11:21

Mega mask dementoring on my FB, back to using the snooze button again. I have actually been wearing a mask a fair chunk of the time when going to the shops, but all the stupid posts comparing masks and ventilators are making me want to set fire to it!

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 11:21

Bubble I think what helps is those things make it sound as if everyone gets complications but it seems to be a small proportion of those ill so it would be unlikely.

Latest madness from Scottish family- one child is excited as under 12 and allowed to not social distance, (other is 12 so presumably are not letting them). Way to go to upset your DC I would think. I bit my tongue at this

Teateaandmoretea · 03/07/2020 11:23

I had to read the post twice but one of the chiefs actually posted that if sars-Cov-2 keeps going it could kill all of us who make it to 80.

That is one possibility. In which case let’s stop wasting our lives. If I make it to 80 and then die of covid I’ll take that.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 03/07/2020 11:23

I’m not a fan of rules either. I’m not a monster - just have always felt the law is a guideline (which can - and should - be challenged in court) rather than an absolute.

Speaking of criminality. My mind has been blown by the cracking of the Dutch phone encryption software and rings broken in London, Essex, Birmingham, Manchester,
Glasgow and um... aviemore!

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 11:26

Living to 80 sounds good to me. That reminds me of a post before all of this about how many of us, would not like to live past 80 anyway Smile
I'll try and find it

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3247851-Not-to-want-to-live-past-my-80s

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 11:28

On the radio this morning, on about thousands have died in care homes and for a second I forgot the virus and thought yes, people who are old are dying all the time. 1500 a day I think die in the UK most days. It;s not really that surprising 'the old people are dying'. and we don't need to hear it constantly.

Bollss · 03/07/2020 11:29

Me too! I could think of worse ways to go. 80 is a good age imo.
