We are going to Alton towers
Wish I’d held off booking tickets as the weather is much better on Sunday than Saturday
And we have to wear masks on the rides

Super Saturday?! Really Op that’s pretty inappropriate. The virus hasn’t gone away you know?Hmm

userxx · 01/07/2020 12:11

@sunshinesupermum Wow. Have you any idea how financially screwed we are. From the 23rd April to the 28th of June the furlough scheme has cost £115 billion. That's just one part of it. We HAVE to get the economy up and running again, we have to encourage people to leave the comfort of their lounge and get out and spending, the pubs and restaurants will enable that.

I know 3 people who have tested positive for covid, they said it was on par with flu.

It is not the OP that has christened it, it's being widely called that in the media. Personally, I think it was shortsighted to open up on a Saturday. IMO they should have waited til Monday and had a slow buildup through the week, hopefully with a few at a time getting it out of their systems rather than the bloody hordes that are going to descend on a Saturday Confused

userxx I can assure you my experience and that of those in ICU is that Covid-19 is NOT on a par with flu.

As much as everyone else I'm missing going out to bars and restaurants, museums etc and am perfectly aware that we are financially screwed. I just believe it is too soon to release the brake.

danni0509 · 01/07/2020 12:15

To be fair to the OP It's the media who have named it super saturday. It's all over it.

SomewhereEast · 01/07/2020 12:24

@sunshinesupermum

it will be a mild illness

You really need to keep up with what's happening to post Covid patients then. This is far from a mild illness for them, with irreparable lung damage as one instance.

The disease is considered to be serious enough for countries to be shutting down when necessary. Here in England we aren't even given the precise numbers of people who catch Covid-19 or who have antibodies because there are no reliable tests.

People I most feel for are the NHS staff and other essential workers face the possibility of contracting coronavirus on a daily basis and who bear the brunt of selfish people who think this isn't a serious illness. ICU staff do not need to be overwhelmed both physically and emotionally because some people say 'I don't know anyone who has had it'.

NHS & other "essential" workers will still have jobs in twelve months time, whereas have been three redundancies in my circle of friends in the past week. As a healthy 40yo I am infinitely more worried about unemployment than Covid, which for me & millions like me almost certainly equals no symptoms or fairly manageable ones.
Brieminewine · 01/07/2020 12:27

Oh come on, hardly inappropriate to say super Saturday! Some people just have to find something to be offended by! Lots of people have been counting down to this day, being able to take their kids to the park, to the cinema, go out for a nice meal or down the pub for a pint! God knows there’s been little else to get excited about these last four months, that doesn’t make people selfish covid deniers!

Clearyweary · 01/07/2020 12:46

Staying at home

BlatheringOn · 01/07/2020 12:53

BonnyWeeOne Yes, a slow build up from Monday would make more sense than a super Saturday. I have watched the beach crowds in horror but do want to see a careful reopening as I fear for our economy. I have two friends who have been made redundant and there others who are awaiting news. Their mental health has been severely affected.
I also know one (apparently healthy 60 year old) person who has died from Covid, and one (aged 30) who survived.

I read that currently not enough of the population have had it in order to protect the vulnerable so now the ones who will survive need to catch it in order for us to get to herd immunity. The problem is, you can't be sure that you will get a mild version and live or that you won't kill your friend or loved one in the meantime.
Rock and a hard place isn't it?

Kerryismystyleicon · 01/07/2020 12:55

Back to work...in a pub 🤯dreading it

actiongirl1978 · 01/07/2020 12:57

Haircut for DD on Saturday and then out for a pub lunch on Sunday. We live in a fairly rarified part of a southern shire and it is likely to be Wall to wall wax jackets/wellies/labradors. No carnage. Rib of beef and a pint then walk home along the bridleway for an afternoon snooze.

It will also be the first meal I haven't cooked in 3 months as I do all the cooking at home. So I am hugely excited.

listsandbudgets · 01/07/2020 12:59

DD is going to her best friends for a sleepover.

The rest of us are going to watch a film at home and eat a takeaway. Certainly not going anywhere near a pub I imagine it would be an horrendous experience.

Oh and I may have a long hot bath - living dangerously!

BonnyWeeOne · 01/07/2020 13:01

BlatheringOn at least the weather appears to be shocking for most of the country on Saturday. It should slow it down a bit!

BlatheringOn · 01/07/2020 13:02

Oh and in answer to Lardlizard - I'm having my haircut on Saturday by a self-employed hairdresser who desperately needs to start earning again but will definitely take all precautions as she has a vulnerable child.

SimonJT · 01/07/2020 13:06

Rugby training first thing this morning, we officially started contact in training again.

No pub visits for us, but we’re going for a picnic with some friends in a bit to have our own pop up pub.

BlatheringOn · 01/07/2020 13:07

BonnyWeeOne Okay that's not so bad!

Blueuggboots · 01/07/2020 13:12

I'm on a night shift and I'm dreading it! Everyone has managed without the pubs for ages but they're all going to go completely bonkers and probably end up being arrested.....

Bearsbearsbears40 · 01/07/2020 13:13

I’m in Wales...so I’ll be at home.

Coffeeislife04 · 01/07/2020 13:14

Staying at home but cooking a meal for my friend who I haven't seen since the start of lock down.. its crazy how much I've missed her zoom parties did help 😊

TheMammothHunters · 01/07/2020 13:19

Hoping not to be in local lockdown!
DS and DH haircuts
Friends round for a barbecue and kids play and some drinks
NT place on Sunday
So by normal standards a low key weekend but by 2020 standards very exciting!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/07/2020 13:24

Listening to Dh moan about working (tech engineer for brewery). They're rammed with places getting ready for reopening, he's driving over 200 miles a day & is it out the 12 hours currently. He's working the w/end after next & has now been told he needs to be in this w/end too because they need all of them working. I'll be doing some gardening with the dc.

Hippychickster · 01/07/2020 13:26

Staying in with something nice for tea and a bottle of wine - I live in Leicester Confused

AskingforaBaskin · 01/07/2020 13:32

I'm in Wales so feck all.
But DPs pub in England is opening so we won't be seeing him for a while.

userxx · 01/07/2020 13:37

Aren't you a little ray of sunshine.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/07/2020 13:42

Cheaper staying at home drinking, also with the amount of vodka i put in a glass will be no way as strong in a pub.
