How long were your children in newborn size clothes?

Just that really. Finding it oddly stressful trying to figure out what clothes to buy for a baby I can’t see, that will only last five minutes anyway. Baby isn’t due till November and I would have just got a few bits and then bought when he was here, but lots of small baby stuff is still sold out due to covid panic buying (why?!) and I’d like to be a bit more prepared.
Basically will only need babygrows and bodies.

Depends on the item of clothing and the brand too. DS was 9lb 9oz but is still in newborn vests at 15 weeks as he is long and thin. Sleepsuits he was in newborn for around 6 weeks before the feet got too small but again width wise was perfect. I would suggest maybe get one pack of newborn and one pack of 0-3 for both vests and sleepsuits - baring in mind the time of year then just buy more when you know exactly what size you will need.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2020 21:56
@clary I would just plan to buy more as needed, but after massive baby clothes shortages this spring I’d like to be a bit more prepared in case an autumn Covid spike causes the same problem again
I have to say, amazon has been a little bit of a life saver given the fat twins have grown exponentially

Ritascornershop · 30/06/2020 21:59

My son was in them for a week (long and skinny baby), my daughter for at least 3 months.

It's a very long time ago. I was expecting a 9-10lb boy and ended up with a 5lb girl. Her first sleep suits were bright red, lime green and navy blue 0-3 month size. We tied knots in the end of the legs until someone kindly gave us some dinky baby clothes a couple of weeks later.

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/06/2020 22:14

@SleepingStandingUp I hate amazon but they have made themselves essential, annoyingly. If I can avoid them I will but sometimes needs must.

Yeah sometimes the fat little things just eat themselves out of clothes and you don't have enough sleep
suits because there's two of them and there's nothing online anywhere without a two week wait but the big footed beasties are suddenly fat NOW

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 30/06/2020 22:17

About a week

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 30/06/2020 22:18

Mine was born over 10lbs so went straight into 0-3 months, which lasted exactly two weeks, then he was into 3-6 months Blush

He's a perfectly normal sized child, but massive babies run in my family Grin

Mmr224 · 30/06/2020 22:23

My baby was 7lbs 7oz and 51cm long. She's 5+4 today and just outgrown most of her newborn clothes this week and now weighs 10lbs 7oz. But has also been wearing some smaller 0-3 stuff for a couple of weeks, as the shops seem to all have different ideas for each size. Lots of friends had bigger babies who never used newborn or 0-1 month clothes.

GirlCalledJames · 30/06/2020 22:24

6–8 weeks for 7lb and 5lb. (The 5 pounder was an enormous premature baby. Tiny baby was too big for him for a while and it was really sad as it made him look thinner, I wished afterwards I had bought the premie size.) I was recommended 16 of everything (14 changes plus two for the nappy bag) unless you plan to tumble dry often, and I needed it.

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/06/2020 22:31

@SleepingStandingUp 😂

@GirlCalledJames happy to tumble dry and we do lots of washing anyway, and will be doing more (planning to use cloth nappies) so don’t need an excessive store

He was out of them before dh went back to work at 12 days...

MinesAPintOfTea · 30/06/2020 22:36

Ps - I lived in tumble dry dresses that were similar colours to the baby grows because they were the ones going through the wash fastest (got sick on me multiple times a day)

Peridotty · 30/06/2020 22:37

my baby is 4 weeks old, weighed 7lb 3 at birth. NB was too big for her. She is now fitting into them at 9lb 6.

PaquitaVariation · 30/06/2020 22:38

First one didn’t fit into newborn size for about two months, DH had to go emergency shopping for tiny baby size. Second one was in newborn size about a week before moving to 0-3.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 30/06/2020 22:49

5 minutes.

TotorosFurryBehind · 30/06/2020 22:52

My baby was almost 10lbs and none of the newborn stuff fit her, she went straight into 1 month!

redastherose · 30/06/2020 22:55

Depends on the size of your baby (rather obviously) my first was 6lb 4oz and was in them for a good while, second was 8lb 9oz and was more or less straight into 0-3 months

ArtichokeAardvark · 30/06/2020 22:57

My son was a big baby so went straight into 0-3, and was then out of those by 6 weeks.

My daughter was much closer to average size (7lb7oz) and wore newborn clothes for around 3 weeks.

clary · 30/06/2020 23:10

Sorry 😀 didn't read thread properly. I didn't tprealise there was such a problem. Does that mean eBay is not a bargain for baby clothes then? That's to really tricky, but at least if you get more than you need you'll be able to sell them or hand them on to a grateful recipient!

mamaduckbone · 01/07/2020 22:22

Less than a day! I had to ask dh to bring 1-3 month clothes to the hospital as ds2 was such a whopper that he didn't fit in them at all.
(Realise that's not a normal situation though...Grin)

MushyPeasAreTheDevilsFood · 01/07/2020 23:09

a day. He was 10lb and long. Db had to go home for bigger onesies.

chromeo · 01/07/2020 23:14

4 months here but he was 4lbs when he was born

chromeo · 01/07/2020 23:16

Bonds baby grows are amazing....

PogoBob · 01/07/2020 23:25

Both of mine went straight into 0-3 months, 9lbs and 10lbs respectively though.
