I’ve just had a read of that twitter thread - populated by the “naice people collect £200 and go straight to Waitrose”. Men who have the time to run 2 hours a day. A woman living her best life (user name is lifelonglandlady 🙄) - her and hubby both academics (?) loving home schooling. Oh and people who work in cafes and restaurants being told their silly concerns for the economy are jus silly... by academics creaming in cash.

What’s Italian for “no spit in my vente please?”

BarkandCheese · 30/06/2020 16:50

I used to have a Peanuts cartoon with Snoopy holding a mug while looking out of a window saying “today is a day to drink tea and think sad thoughts while looking at the rain”, it’s definitely one of those days today.

Spudlet · 30/06/2020 16:51

@BarkandCheese But Alice, in her no doubt comfortable and warm home, with her job that can be done anywhere, simply can’t understand why anyone would want to. It’s just a mystery. 🤷‍♀️

@KaronAVyrus Snobbery runs through the whole dementor thing, doesn’t it? All those nasty, grubby, working class types making the beaches look untidy and spoiling the atmosphere with their regional accents. Confused

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 16:54

@KaronAVyrus A sizeable chunk of my family are in Crete, it's one of my favourite places ever. I love Ag Nik and the shopping in Heraklion.

Back onto dementors why are they still parroting that infections are over 1k a day??? It's not been consistently over 1k since the 21 June

There have only been 2 days since then where it has been over 1000

I think they're still flying from there, @Dowser

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 16:57

Oh my god @BarkandCheese I love love love that!!!!

Orangeblossom78 · 30/06/2020 16:57

All this talk of 'shoulds' reminds me again of approaches like CBT which look at replacing them with what you would like, or choose to do.

www.verywellmind.com/should-statements-2584193

Not surprising if the dementors are damaging to others mental health

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 16:58

@HesterShaw1
Go to Crete, you will absolutely love it.

PickAChew · 30/06/2020 16:59

Just waiting for my next vvip slot to start. Not that there's a lot in it. And the server was dragging while I browsed the preview.

Dowser · 30/06/2020 17:00

@DominaShantotto
From end the lockdown

The news of the closure of schools in Leicester has galvanised our members into wanting to take action and for the campaign to step up a gear. We are actively planning the next stages but we’d love your input.

What would you like the next steps of the campaign to be? Please feel free to add other options in the comments.

Thank you!

I think you will already be on the group but if not there’s some support

BarkandCheese · 30/06/2020 17:01

My DD used to sleep in a wardrobe when we visited the in-laws in the days they lived in Florida. It was more of a walk in closet than a wardrobe really, plenty of room for a single air mattress on the floor. However she used to enjoy telling people she slept in a wardrobe at her grandparents house.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 17:01

Why don't they all just start an AIBU?
AIBU to try my hardest to stop anyone leaving home at all until there is a vaccine because I don't want to, and if I can't they can't.

coronalevel.com/United_Kingdom/England/

Quite useful for numbers etc

NannyPhlegm · 30/06/2020 17:05

Our holiday to Greece has been cancelled today. It was only in August, so I thought we'd have a fair chance of making it. Disappointed :(
But am in a better position than the poor sods in the airspace industry who are being laid off.

So much political dicking about, while ordinary people have their livelihoods destroyed Sad

KaronAVyrus · 30/06/2020 17:05

I used to wonder why, when there was a revolution, that it would often be academics that would lynched first. After reading Alice Roberts I now totally get it. Patronising tossers.

LivinKaVidaLoki - my favourite is Chania. My dream is to tour round Crete for a couple of months. Just love the scenery, people, culture and cuisine.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 17:06

Just had a look at that and apparently our estimated risk in 1 in 12509? Am I reading that right?
LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/06/2020 17:08

@NannyPhlegm we are going in August. A number of hotels have decided not to open and a number of flights have been cancelled from some airports.

Depending where you are going from/to you may be able to re book for August still.

torydeathdrug · 30/06/2020 17:13

@BarkandCheese Grin Matt should use it as his new banner for press briefings.

Alice Roberts is awful (and a bit dim, despite being an anatomist she doesn't seem to be able to recognise female as a sex class) ... she's the personification of Smunt. I have an allergy to patronising, clueless, doctorly/academic types (I have that background & therefore hate pretty much everyone I know Grin ). St Alice of Smunt.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/06/2020 17:14

My parents moved abroad for Dad's job when I was around 6 months old. We arrived at the new place before some of our furniture. The only thing suitable for a baby to sleep in was apparently a chest of drawers. My sister caused a bit of a stir by announcing to her new classmates and teacher that " my mum puts my baby sister into a drawer when she cries or sleeps and I have to sleep on the floor ( forgetting to mention on an airbed) as well!" I often wonder whether the Australian Child Services were ever informed. Grin
BarkandCheese · 30/06/2020 17:15

What’s smunt? Is it some very rude portmanteau word or an acronym?

HesterShaw1 · 30/06/2020 17:19

Oh dear. I used to like Alice Roberts. She's now another who has had to go on the Shit List :(

torydeathdrug · 30/06/2020 17:19

oh something I learnt on an earlier thread - smug + cunt (so yes very rude portmanteau). Very useful for describing that skin crawling middle class smug privilege and disingenuous faux ignorance of a particular breed of dementor. They are unbearable.

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 17:26

The Scottish islands are shite anyway unless you enjoy your summer holidays in driving horizontal icy rain and purchasing excessively priced wilting vegetables from shops where people hate you.

Nihiloxica · 30/06/2020 17:28

I have an allergy to patronising, clueless, doctorly/academic types (I have that background & therefore hate pretty much everyone I know).

Hard same. Sad

At least I have some kindred spirits here. Smile

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/06/2020 17:28

I used to like Alice Roberts too, I think she's got smugger and more patronising as she got older and more promoted.
I like the description of her below as the least scientific scientist ever - yup, that's about it.
