Greece is amazing. Sunningly beautiful with the most amazing ancient monuments from so many civilisations. It's mindblowing.

We are going to Greece next summer. I decided a few weeks ago. I've kind of given up on this summer.

HesterShaw1 · 30/06/2020 15:00

When would you say was the nicest time to go? Being a freckly ginge, my tolerance for heat isn't great! I'm fine up until about 27/28 degrees. May?

Nihiloxica · 30/06/2020 15:01

@Orangeblossom78

It's odd that although busy these threads are never trending
I'm pretty sure the trending topics are curated to leave out long running threads like these, and thank fuck because otherwise we'd be Dementored to death.

Even trending on Twitter isn't just the topic with with most tweets - it's about surging traffic over time.

I went in October and it was gorgeous, although a bit out of season.
Worldgonecrazy · 30/06/2020 15:04

We are lucky enough to live in one of the not too busy tourist areas. I mentioned to Mr Crazy that I would be happy to forego a foreign holiday next year as two weeks at home in our beautiful location is more than many people are able to have. He then mentioned warm seas and Greek food (neither of which the UK can offer) so we are going to Greece, either May or October. 😎

We booked an October 2020 trip at the start of lockdown to give us something to look forward to.

We should have an AD meet up whilst looking over a beautiful bay 😎

I have missed a thread. What's a malaka? Is it another word for a ventilated vagina?

Oh that's wonderful! GrinGrinGrin

Dear of you @SummerHouse!

From what I can gather, it's rather an all encompassing Greek word, but mainly means wanker.

I think it might be a way to describe someone who regularly ventilated their own vagina
trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/06/2020 15:13

Here you are you murderous malakas.

@TrustTheGeneGenie

probably a stupid question, but, is there any reason why the sadly daily deaths cant be just that, people who died today, or, yesterday if thats easier?

why are there all these random sadly deaths being thrown in from weeks ago?

It can take a surprisingly long time to register even hospital deaths, let alone care homes. So today's sadly deaths, or even yesterday's, won't be available yet in full. You'd need to report deaths from about 2 weeks ago. Oh, and that's assuming that the hospital data admin systems do actually give you the right data. (No sadly deaths were reported in North Wales for weeks, then 84 in one day due to something to do with reporting systems.)

The daily figures are pretty useless for this reason, but if they weren't produced everyone would claim a cover up.

ONS publish pretty solid figures about 2 weeks behind. If you want real data, they're the best available.

torydeathdrug · 30/06/2020 15:20

@TrustTheGeneGenie completely agree with you. The big scary numbers are useful for both government & the media.

What amuses me is that some countries (ahem Spain, & France aren't exactly transparent now) have basically said right we're screwed we need to move on now & stopped reporting & everyone was just oh okay then! Can you imagine the reaction here?! People live for the Sad Death Count.

Dowser · 30/06/2020 15:21

I like to think I’m pretty good at recognising well known voices
Mr Dowser is playing an old video and I said I’m stumped, you’ll have to tell me who it is

Spike Milligan
I think I’ve mainly only heard him doing silly voices. So I probably didn’t stand much of a chance.

I’m thinking of starting a new business
Rent a Happy Chappy

He’s just so quietly happy. It’s like having a little ray of sunshine sat in the living room.

Thank goodness, two miserable old gits like me would not bode well.

He’s not even fakely happy.( couldn’t cope with that) .just happily on an even keel
I’d love to be like that.

His motto is..there’s no point in missing what you can’t have.

Meanwhile I continue to Bash my head off the walls .

Willitneverend · 30/06/2020 15:21

Hello!

I went on a murderous rampage to get DCs shoes. I forgot toddler socks so went into a department shop across the way, to buy some quickly. Someone at door to recite big list of bits of shop that were shut, I got told off for standing in slightly the wrong place at till (shop assistant had visor on, I had mask on, but I had to stand dead centre behind perspex screen). I then got told off for trying to use wrong door to leave in new one way system by the new "door rules" member of staff.

There was hardly anyone else in the shop. This was in a medium sized town with a high street that was on its knees even before this, and the shop I was in is one of the anchor stores.

Shoe shop fitting was all good though, they managed to have safety equipment but not make me feel like I'd wandered into a gulag by mistake.

torydeathdrug · 30/06/2020 15:26

This is good news:

Anglesey schools to reopen after chicken factory outbreak
Schools on a Welsh island where a major coronavirus outbreak forced a chicken factory to close temporarily are to reopen on July 13 - for a week.

Anglesey council's decision comes after Public Health Wales found no evidence that suggested the coronavirus outbreak among staff at the 2 Sisters plant had led to any significant community transmission.

Willow2017 · 30/06/2020 15:34

Oooh its more years than i care to think about since i was these Dowser. We went up to the monastery by bus. That was nerve wracking!
Course we went when they had the highest summer temps in donkeys years! People were leaving still pure white as it was too hot the week before to sit out😀
Oh and our plane went through a thunder and lightning storm on way home. I was watching the lightening flash along beside the plane fascinated while my friend hid her face in her hands.😄
Would love to go back to Greece somewhere before kids are too old. Loved all the historical sites as well as the people and beaches and sea. Need to start saving as its much more expensive to go these days compared to other places it seems.

Thanks for new thread love the title. Glad we never trend we would be inundated with people telling us how awful we all are for being honest.

Discovered one of our local Chinese takeaways is now open so will be murdering a small town later.😉

@pixie I get all my facts each day from Prof Sakora and his subscribers. Between them they do an immense job of distilling the numbers, analysing the heck out of them and keeping me calm. Can't seem to link to him but he's on Twitter if you don't follow already.

Schools on a Welsh island

"A" Welsh island? Isn't it the only Welsh island with any children living on it, let alone a school!

Sorry to miss the point. Anyone would think they had never heard of Anglesey!

That's good news that nothing spread in the community.

Ibake · 30/06/2020 15:37

@hestershaw lot of the pools aren't heated so May can be a bit chilly for that, as can the sea too. By September the sea is like a warm bath but temperatures much more pleasant.

I'm not massive for swimming to be honest. I was thinking of flowers and fresh grass and so on, before it all gets burnt and dried by the sun

In which case Crete could well be the place for you - plus all the fabulous Greek mythology too.

Anglesey schools open on 13th July so they get another two weeks off . GS school today DIL finally met some other mums who all said it was rubbish that schools were so disorganised and empty. I said well Scotland turned it round. I sent DIL petition said did you sign and share. Nope she didn't nor did anyone I forwarded it to. The Welsh mums have no backbone I have decided. They moan yet do nothing

RubberDinghyRapids · 30/06/2020 15:51

We're big fans of Kefalonia/Cefalonia here in the Dinghy Haus. Holidays abroad aren't on the cards for a while due to limited incomes and wee DD (plus hopeful plans for subsequent DC) but it's the first place we'll go when the time is right.

Cattermole · 30/06/2020 15:51

Argh. Nasty moment there. Was just footling about on Spotify putting together a playlist for the book (I write to some very cheesy musicI fear) and came across Katy Perry, "Roar".
Which was one of the songs Junior Mole and class had a dance routine to in the summer show last year.
There will be no summer show this year.
Oh God that filled me with such rage I need to eat chocolate....

Lovely! Thank you :)

I will suggest it to the boyf. And if he doesn't want to I will go on my own!
