So I didn't watch the Scottish briefing, but apparently under 11s allowed to meet outside without social distancing , but teenagers nasty germ harbingers still restricted to 8 from 3 households which makes team sports a bit tricky when you've got an only child. Shame DS has hurt his toe - who knew that kicking a football with just socks on would do that - or I'd enjoy sending him out with his pals as a two finger salute.

In other news "outbreaks" in Dumfries and Galloway gives her a perfect excuse for border control. Bollocks Angry

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 02/07/2020 13:56

The teenagers have been meeting up for weeks (months ?) here to enjoy age-old traditions such as low-level arson, shagging, drinking and littering.

The primary kids have all been out playing for weeks too.

Thanks queen Nicola.

Mascotte · 02/07/2020 13:58

The outbreak in D&G appears to have come from a hospital worker in Carlisle bringing it home. So not evil English tourists or, heaven forfend, pleasure seeking Scots.

KaronAVyrus · 02/07/2020 13:58

Yy no social distancing is happening with teenagers in Edinburgh. That went out the window about 6 weeks ago.

SockYarn · 02/07/2020 14:00

I have to say that one advantage of lockdown is that my GPs are so much better. They are doing phone appointments only and if you call them about something you hear back right away. I have a weird lump on my head which I'm pretty sure is a Pilar Cyst - have had two removed already. Usually i'd have to make an appointment, schelpp along to the GP, sit and wait for ages, they then agree with my diagnosis and refer me to have it removed.

Now I can just stay in the house, speak to them on the phone and still get the referral.

@Lickyicelollies if you're anywhere near Glasgow do you fancy popping round with a scalpel and some local anaesthetic to whip it out for me?

justasking111 · 02/07/2020 14:02

In other news OH met up with a friend yesterday who had done the caveman diet, lost three stone over lockdown. So OH came back with a bag filled with meat. liver, bacon, sausages which he says is the only thing he will eat from now on. So fuckity fuck I am not a great meat eater guess I will be fending for myself from now on.

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb · 02/07/2020 14:05

@countrygirl99 Hurrah for weddings, it's lovely to have good news like that. I hope your Dad is OK. I have elderly parents worries too (whole other thread) and it is gobsmacking how "keep them safe" actually means "make their lives more shit and risk their health just as badly"

My DH wears a face covering in shops (don't shout at me Wink) he uses a bandana tied round his face and with his tattoos, extreme tallness and very severe case of resting bitch face Grin people social distance the fuck away from him Wink He looks like he is there for a spot of robbery. Actually he could be employed to walk round with vulnerable people so no one goes near them

The sex thing is making me laugh (and shudder in equal measure) I wish I'd not mentioned Matt Hancock immediately before, sorry about that...

The shielding (sorry, still going on!) advice about not going within 3 steps of the rest of your household and separate bedrooms/bathrooms...I know some people (obviously with bigger houses than mine!) are doing that and some have even moved out. I'm not judging them, but for me, I would definitely rather take my CV risk than never be able to hug or kiss or even just hold hands with DH for months and the foreseeable future. I seriously don't think I could face my life at the moment without some human contact. It's literally keeping me going.
Frightening vulnerable people, with the current situation, to the extent they voluntarily live like that seems immoral to me.

NannyPhlegm · 02/07/2020 14:05

See, I would be happy to wear a mask if it meant we could put social distancing in the bin where it belongs and get on with life, school, fun! But that's not what they're proposing. This is death by a thousand bureaucratic cuts

DesmondTheMoonbear · 02/07/2020 14:11

I've never hit anyone in my life but if I read or hear one more person say "It's worth it if it saves even one life" I may have to make an exception.

We could put hundreds of measures in place that would save at least one life but would they be reasonable or wise? No. Let's ban cars because they kill people and contribute to air pollution. Public transport has to go to because buses and trains also contribute to air pollution and people have been killed by them. Let's ban construction because the industry results in workers dying. Factories have to go to because again employees die in them, and if you look at the HSE site you'll see how common it is for construction and factory workers to be killed or maimed. We can't have deliveries either because the drivers might die in a crash and again they're contributing to air pollution.

No extreme sports, actually better make that no sport allowed to be on the safe side, but then being sedentary kills too. Perhaps shops should only sell soft foods and ban kitchen knives because they've been used to kill people and accidents happen.

Where do these people draw the line I wonder? We would literally be unable to function as a society if we took the attitude that anything is justified if it saves even one life. Why are they so anxious to avoid even one Covid death yet don't care about the risks to the factory workers who produce their food and the haulage and delivery drivers who get it to the supermarkets and to their homes. Why do they matter less?

DesmondTheMoonbear · 02/07/2020 14:14

I also hope that they haven't been so crass as to buy anything frivolous or unnecessary because they are wasting money that could have saved lives if they donated it to medical research or charities that help people living in poverty. Shame on them if so.

justasking111 · 02/07/2020 14:16

going back to face coverings and sex, there is such an old joke going back to the 70`s I half recall about if the sex partner was very ugly should put a bag over their head and swing on the handles Blush

Mascotte · 02/07/2020 14:18

We'd have to ban life too as it has a 100% chance of death.

SeaOtterFluff · 02/07/2020 14:18

@DesmondTheMoonbear - that's because they (we, in my case) don't matter because we're invisible, low paid and therefore expendable.

It makes me so angry, I've been going to work throughout and yet don't seem to have Sadly Died.

Pleasedontdothat · 02/07/2020 14:21

I had to take dd for a blood test at our local (empty) hospital yesterday and remembered as we were leaving the house that we needed face coverings in the hospital. We have one mask in the house which dh was given by his cycling club (don’t ask) and I used a buff. I loathed every second of wearing it - it was hot, I couldn’t breathe properly, my glasses steamed up and I couldn’t work out what dd was saying to me as I couldn’t lip read (I’m partially deaf). The utter ludicrousness of it all was that all the (mask-wearing) staff were behind Perspex screens 🤷‍♀️ - and the bloody thing kept falling down so I was constantly having to fiddle with it. I don’t think anyone anywhere near me was one iota safer than they would have been had I not been covering my face Hmm

catsoup · 02/07/2020 14:24

Joining the thread after stupidly going on Facebook to the dementors rejoicing at face coverings in shops being made mandatory. These people don't seen to know how to live their lives without someone telling them how.

Thank goodness for this thread!

When the Scottish elections come round I truly hope NS is voted out but somehow I doubt it.

IAintentDead · 02/07/2020 14:26

Not sure bacon and sausage were available at the local supermarket in caveman times. Is he also going to cook it over a wood fire in the garden - or just eat it raw.
Lickyicelollies · 02/07/2020 14:27

@SockYarn I am in Glasgow but you wouldn't thank me for my surgical "skills"!

DesmondTheMoonbear · 02/07/2020 14:27

Mascotte Good idea. I'll start a petition. It's disgraceful that this problem hasn't been dealt with before considering how lethal it is. Why has our government ignored this for so long? They must be brought to account.

SockYarn · 02/07/2020 14:35

@Lickyicelollies aw go oh, you'll be fine. And I promise not to take my own stitches out this time....

Worldgonecrazy · 02/07/2020 14:38

I hope Johnson hates Sturgeon and Drakeford enough to deliberately not bring in mandatory face masks. I hate them. And given the way most people wear them incorrectly,, I’m sure they are doing more harm than good at the moment, particularly in areas where it’s easy to stay away from others.

AnxiousElephant77 · 02/07/2020 14:40

There's a sadly died briefing tonight isn't there? I think about schools.

Cattermole · 02/07/2020 14:44

Tomorrow I think Anxious - or at least the Blob is giving a press conference tomorrow about not going to the pub, or maybe going to the pub, or possibly not going to the pub if the Johnsons are going to be there? - he's not coming out twice in two days is he? oh jesus...

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 02/07/2020 14:47

@SockYarn I’m not a medic, but I’ll give it a bash. Just need a wee nip to steady my hands. 😁 wasn’t a dentist either until lockdown...

Weedsnseeds1 · 02/07/2020 14:51

There will be much foot stamping and wailing "where's our maks? We want masks too. Its not fair, they've got them, we want to be muzzled in public too. It's our right to have our rights eroded too..."
Mark my words.
I am about to check Facebook to see if I can spot the first ones.

Orangeblossom78 · 02/07/2020 14:52

That reminds me the Times had an agony aunt advice thing with a couple asking about socially distanced sex which involved a face mask recently. Hmm
