If anyone fancies creeping elsewhere, there is a lovely AIBU about kind things that strangers have done to help you. It's rather heartwarming.

My friend has been looking at house rentals in Cornwall v the Algarve, Portugal is cheaper Shock

Dowser · 30/06/2020 22:28

Absolute batshit

Do they really think people are going to stick to this stoopidity

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 22:29

@justasking111 holidays in Scotland are extortionate compared to going abroad, I've been looking. Three nights in a nice hotel in France for the price of one here, for example. I just need to pluck up the courage to go!

justasking111 · 30/06/2020 22:33

OH has just said if we go, we are driving, sheesh gonna be a long way from Wales to Portugal Sad

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 22:34

I'm going to drive

Willitneverend · 30/06/2020 22:36

@mascotte try MacDonalds Hotels (they've got a deal on this weekend) and Crerar Hotels (also have deals on). I think they might expire quite quickly.

PickAChew · 30/06/2020 22:36

@HesterShaw1 I remember campaigns again these factories back in the 80s. Other than the scale of them, since British manufacturing has dwindled to bugger all over the past 30 years, things have clearly changed very little. If they were ignoring lockdown in the first place what's to say they will magically comply, this time?

rookiemere · 30/06/2020 22:36

Shodan I remember going to Wookey Hole with my DPs when I was a child- I don't remember much about it, but I do remember really enjoying it. As one of the endless permutations of changing our Easyjet flights we did look at going to Bristol - I've been with work - and exploring the local area. Maybe some other time.

justasking111 · 30/06/2020 22:39

At the top of our cul de sac is a long road, going up this road to the left the properties are within the cachement area for one school, on the right the properties are within the cachement area of another school. The first school is a five minute walk, the second school a half hour walk. That always struck me as odd when people from the town two miles away can attend first school but have a choice of half a dozen other schools.

You can sail to Santander and drive down through Spain. It'll only take a few days HmmGrin
justasking111 · 30/06/2020 22:43

Those factories have not only abused their employees they are also claiming furlough payments. They are crooks.

The meat processing plants in Wales are I suspect like this which is to our shame. The owner I discovered lives in the midlands a real charmer I suspect, worth 544 million he has his finger in a lot of pies so to speak. When forced to close the factories the company said at first there would be no money for employees that has since been amended to a 1 mil. pot for this purpose.

Yeah, we're teetering on the edge of catchment for a secondary just 20 minutes walk away. Priority is given to outlying villages, though.

I've enjoyed the unicorn facts thread. Reminds me of mumsnet of old.

Paradiseinportugal · 30/06/2020 22:50

@justasking111
My husband takes the overnight ferry to Santander and drives through Spain, into Portugal then to the Algarve. It's quicker than the tunnel

Paradiseinportugal · 30/06/2020 22:50

Whoops Hester got there before me!

justasking111 · 30/06/2020 22:54

Paradise my sons used the ferry to Santander then surfed through Spain and down into Portugal, they had amazing holidays as students in their campervan and tents I had forgotten about the ferry will mention it to him tomorrow. Many thanks.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 30/06/2020 22:55

I've found you thank god. I'm going out of my mind in wales.

Come sept they reckon schooling in wales will be about 1 or 2 days per 3 weeks. I am expected in the office in sept. What do I do with DS 8?

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 30/06/2020 22:59

Just heard this on the radio, caught half the lyrics and assumed it was written recently. It wasn't, it's at least a year old. Uncannily fitting lyrics though.

justasking111 · 30/06/2020 23:00

I really do not know ridcully, DIL is going nuts too. GS had one hour of school today in a bubble of 3. The older ones are getting 3 hours a week. It is such a mess...

Mascotte · 30/06/2020 23:01

@Willitneverend thanks, I'll take a look!

Willitneverend · 30/06/2020 23:01

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully I'm really confused about why there hasnt been a Scotland style parent insurrection in Wales. Is it because we start back in August and didnt get any school in June and it'll suddenly hit everyone in Wales in a couple of weeks? People here really kicked off when they got the rotas.

Willitneverend · 30/06/2020 23:03

@mascotte no bother. I want to book ALL the mini breaks...

justasking111 · 30/06/2020 23:12

Insurrection in Wales I reckon is just not in their psyche. I forwarded all the details to my family and all friends who had kids in school to do something, not one of them has. They are moaning, but the majority are so afeared and negative thinking it is toooooo dangerous themselves. We have two kinds of sheep in Wales I have decided the woollies and the humans.

NannyPhlegm · 30/06/2020 23:13

I'm really confused about why there hasnt been a Scotland style parent insurrection in Wales.

This is just anecdotal, but the parents in my children's school are not overly bothered because they are convinced that schools will be full time in September. One mum said to me that there's no way Wales would go part time when the other three Nations are full time with no social distancing.
I think it's a collective head-in-the-sand look-at-the-bright-side approach

NannyPhlegm · 30/06/2020 23:14

We have two kinds of sheep in Wales I have decided the woollies and the humans.

There is definitely an element of that too, sadly
