How much would you pay for this shopping?

Weekly food shop done in M&S to feed a family of 2 adults, one child, one baby for a week. We already had basics like bread, milk, eggs and pasta.

Partner 1 thinks it's excessive

Partner 2 thinks it's a bargain

How much would you pay for this shopping?

I was going to guess at £60 as that's roughly what we spend on evening meals in there or Waitrose. For the basics I think it's a good price. It's not a full shop in my opinion though, no drinks, deserts, snacks etc.

Hollyhobbi · 29/06/2020 17:38

Grafton St. wouldn't be near me. My work is nearer Henry Street branch and I sometimes hop off the Luas at Heuston to see if they have any bargains!

I missed M&S during lockdown as Aldi or Tesco were the nearest supermarkets. I was able to go to ours the week before last and spent a small fortune on a load of treats!

I used to do our weekly shop there, and it worked out great - no waste as we ate it all, all fruit and veg SO good etc

Then I changed jobs and wasn't near one anymore so switched to Aldi which we also love a lot.

I think it's good to switch shops from time to time as you sort of get sick the same stuff all the time.

I might do our shop on M&S this week, inspired by this thread.

Enjoy your shopping OP, you got some great stuff there

@Hollihobbi
No way would it be so cheap in Ireland.
M&S food is very expensive here.
Their portions are very small too.
I buy their loo paper in the yellow packaging. It's the softest.
Interesting to see the chicken factory with all the Covid19 cases supplies both M&S and Aldi.
I hope the animal welfare is good for both.

The Grafton Street branch is lovely though.I love going in for a nose.

JingsMahBucket · 29/06/2020 23:24

How is this not a week’s worth of food for the OP’s family?? That looks like plenty.

RedCatBlueCat · 30/06/2020 08:15

There is plenty of meat, but very limited fruit and veg in that shop.
Other things in my weekly shop: bread, eggs, cheese, milk.

Redroses05 · 30/06/2020 09:37

It’s definitely not a weekly shop. There is no Juices or yogurts snacks lots of things are missing. You wouldn’t expect to do a weekly shop in M&S for only £57 though.

lazylinguist · 30/06/2020 10:27

There is no Juices or yogurts snacks

Juice isn't compulsory. Not everyone eats snack foods.

Did I say it was compulsory? However it’s still not a full shop for a family of 4 people. OP stated she has a young child and I would usually buy yogurts in my weekly shop. Obviously your shop is different to mine. That’s is fine!.

Jings - lunch? Breakfast? Fruit?Other meals?!

SapphosRock · 30/06/2020 12:05

I did say we already had some cheap staples like pasta and bread.

Re lunches, there is crispy bacon and (naice) ham + tomatoes for sandwiches. Also the pasta sauce.

Mango and Greek yoghurt for desserts.

Our DD mainly eats what we eat but I did get her the chicken teddies.

@SapphosRock exactly my point. You already told people you had other food at home. Ergo, this is a full week’s shop for you. I find it weird that people are saying it isn’t or they aren’t reading/comprehending what you’re saying.

PickAChew · 30/06/2020 15:38

I don't know about other people but I find it impossible to buy and store enough fruit and veg for a week, anyhow. I buy that stuff twice a week and still might top up on Saturday if Thursday's offerings weren't great.

sassysoul · 30/06/2020 15:49

I was going to guess between £55-£60 because I used to work in marks and Spencer and sometimes couldn't believe just how much 2 bags of shopping came to. I think it's nice to get treats though and if you can afford it and would otherwise spend it eating out then why not

We realise that it OP DID say you probably could get a weeks shop if carefully planned but you could not for 4 members in One household. If you read further down the thread, although OP did ok for the money spent!
