How much would you pay for this shopping?

Weekly food shop done in M&S to feed a family of 2 adults, one child, one baby for a week. We already had basics like bread, milk, eggs and pasta.

Partner 1 thinks it's excessive

Partner 2 thinks it's a bargain

How much would you pay for this shopping?

£67

MotherMorph · 29/06/2020 11:26

£72?
I never shop at m and s bar the occassional sandwich (pre lockdown) as above budget for me, and I dislike the excessive packaging on fruit and veg.
I spent 84 in tesco this week and probably got twice as many items.

CheshireCats · 29/06/2020 11:28

That is not a weekly shop. There is not a weeks worth of food for 4 people. So whatever it cost, your weekly cost is much higher.

Daisydoesnt · 29/06/2020 11:28

OP do you get a veg box as well? For two adults and a child that’s hardly any vegetables for a week!
I’m guessing about £70

Malin52 · 29/06/2020 11:28

Probably £98 I'd wager

midnightstar66 · 29/06/2020 11:30

That wouldn't last our 1 adult and 2 primary age dc a week without a couple of substantial top ups. I'd say about £68. Definitely no bargain anyway. I've had weeks in the past where I've had £14 to buy our meals for the week but if you can afford it then it's irrelevant

gopuff · 29/06/2020 11:31

This is a bit pointless as its not representative of a true weekly shop it's just a shop to add to what you bought from elsewhere & already have.

Fleurchamp · 29/06/2020 11:36

Ok so some reduced with a £5 voucher I would say £72
If there is an offer on 3 for £10 etc I don't find them too bad value but I never seem to be able to stick to the offers!

Fleurchamp · 29/06/2020 11:38

And no, that is not a weekly shop. You will probably be using another £30+ of other items.
I am interested in this as Ocado are switching to M&S soon and I wonder whether it will work out much more expensive.

SapphosRock · 29/06/2020 11:38

Things we already have that we will eat some of this week:

Bread, milk, butter, pasta, pesto, cheese, carrots, fruit, rice. Probably an extra £10.

Our family doesn't get through 1kg of rice or a jar or pesto in one week, would more likely take us a month.

£32. At a rough guess.

AllStartedWithUSA · 29/06/2020 11:39

£87

I like M&S quality but it is expensive. If you buy raw products (like your shopping) maybe not so much but add in fee nice treats (cakes tray bake) and ready meals and bam you’ve spend a fortune. I can easily spend £40 in there and when I’m home realise I’ve only one meal!!!

Your post seems a little pointless though. If you can afford it what’s the big deal. If you can’t then discuss and change. It’s also not a full weekly shop. You already have some bits plus did fruit picking etc as well.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 29/06/2020 11:41

No household items either....or wine

suggestionsplease1 · 29/06/2020 11:44

£63.88

Crockodoodle · 29/06/2020 11:45

Makes me giggle when people say Marks is better quality. The chicken factory that was shut down in Anglesey due to Covid supplied Aldi and Marks.

Jeremyironsnothing · 29/06/2020 11:46

Ok if we need to be exact. £68.74

WildCherryBlossom · 29/06/2020 11:46

Over £75 probably with the sea bass and all the chicken

Scruffyoak · 29/06/2020 11:46

I reckon it was about 72

But i wouldn't pay over 30 lol

LizzieMacQueen · 29/06/2020 11:46

If you have a voucher then I'm guessing it was +£70 before discount (£7) so I'm guessing £65.20 on the basis that you went over the 70 but not by much.

Then, because you got the voucher money off, you see it as bargainous!

suggestionsplease1 · 29/06/2020 11:47

Do we win the food if we get it right?

Feweradsplease · 29/06/2020 11:51

£73.58

Howmanysleepsnow · 29/06/2020 11:51

£54

Feweradsplease · 29/06/2020 11:52

No actually lower I think, £48.63

SapphosRock · 29/06/2020 11:54

Quite often get the dine in for £12 deal with wine. Opting for the rotisserie chicken as a main means we can make another meal with the leftover chicken. Me and DP aren't big drinkers so we have a glass of wine with the food and the rest gets used for cooking sauce.

Lol @suggestionsplease1 maybe I should suggest that to the M&S social media people.

OP posts:
Morgan12 · 29/06/2020 11:54

I'd reckon about £72.

Also, how can you go to M&S and not get any dirty chips?
