Weekly food shop done in M&S to feed a family of 2 adults, one child, one baby for a week. We already had basics like bread, milk, eggs and pasta.

Partner 1 thinks it's excessive

Partner 2 thinks it's a bargain

How much would you pay for this shopping?

I now buy loads of snacks & household stuff from Aldi & find it very good value.

AvoidingRealHumans · 29/06/2020 12:56

Are you going to tell us then?.... God sake

SapphosRock · 29/06/2020 12:56

Pre mat leave / Covid money worries we wouldn't have thought twice about spending £57 for a meal at Pizza Express so I thought it was good for the amount of meals it will make.

Ahhh my phone didn't load all of the comments. Awks Blush

heyheyho · 29/06/2020 12:58

It’s good value. I’d rather spend that in M and S than Aldi as it’s far better quality. I’m not bothered by the packaging

Rentacar · 29/06/2020 12:58

£80-£100

Nsky · 29/06/2020 13:02

Seems a bit excessive for what you got, so much meat too

What’s wrong with buying meat? Are we not allowed?
keepingbees · 29/06/2020 13:06

I would've expected that to be a lot more being M&S and as meat is so expensive. It's healthy food with no junk food, some would be suitable to freeze too if need be.

lazylinguist · 29/06/2020 13:06

I thought that was a bargain for the quality of food.

I think people delude themselves about how much better the quality is in more expensive supermarkets. My DM shops in Waitrose and turns her nose up at Aldi, but when she eats at our house, she's forever saying "Ooh, that's really good, where did you get it?"and is constantly astonished when I say Aldi.

Xmasbaby11 · 29/06/2020 13:07

£60?

It's not a week's worth of food!

Xmasbaby11 · 29/06/2020 13:09

just seen the price. I think that's fine! I tend to find the meat and fish v good quality there.

Oly4 · 29/06/2020 13:19

I love M&S and think the quality is excellent. Some of my shopping there ends up cheaper than sainsburys

123rd · 29/06/2020 13:23

I don't think it's a lot of food for that price tho. We couldn't afford to buy that amount of food. from M&S. unfortunately

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 29/06/2020 13:28

Im with partner 1!

Theres no fruit or breakfast or lunch and not enough meals for the week. Or tea or coffee etc.

We spend quite a bit on fruit.

Scotmummy1216 · 29/06/2020 13:33

I wouldn't shop in m&s too expensive for weekly shop in my budget. I would pay £40 in aldi for all that under m&s would be more.

Scotmummy1216 · 29/06/2020 13:36

Just seen how much thats pretty good for m&s

GameSetMatch · 29/06/2020 13:54

£56

Feelingpoorlysick · 29/06/2020 13:58

A lot of stuff you buy in M&S is the same you would buy in aldi. It's supplied by the same factories. You just pay 3 times more in M&S.

morethanafortnight · 29/06/2020 14:01

I'd get a week's shopping for 4 adults with big appetites in Aldi for that much, sorry.

Crockodoodle · 29/06/2020 14:02

But the meat was reduced, with yellow stickers M&S is great.

@AllStartedWithUSA fair enough, it's driven by my mil raving about M&S meat and saying that you don't get the same in those European shops 🙄

MrsJemimaDuck · 29/06/2020 14:30

I just feel like a greedy little piglet. We eat so much more than that in a week...

doadeer · 29/06/2020 14:35

Would you honestly get 5 packs of chicken, 5 salmon, 2 seabass etc for significantly less? I don't see how. You might eat different food and meals but like for like how much would it be in Aldi?

While it's try it might come from the same factory, doesn't mean the product is the same. Digestives and rich tea could be made in the same factory, they don't use the same products just the same machinery. Other things that same factories such as beans for different stores are clearly different in the sauce and bean size for example. I worked in a chicken factory for a while school and birds eye absolutely got the better quality meant because they paid more for it than farm foods for example. There were different QC standards and different bird batches used. You finished the Birdseye order before you moved on so it wasn't mixed or the same.

Westfacing · 29/06/2020 14:41

If you can afford M&S why aren't you buying free range/organic chicken?
