How much would you pay for this shopping?

Weekly food shop done in M&S to feed a family of 2 adults, one child, one baby for a week. We already had basics like bread, milk, eggs and pasta.

Partner 1 thinks it's excessive

Partner 2 thinks it's a bargain

I think about £64. I like m&s food too but as others have said that isn’t a full weeks shop for 4, I usually shop at Tesco or morrisons because I can get a full weeks shop there for the same as probably 4 days worth of food at M&S.

You obviously feel like you got a bargain OP but since you haven’t highlighted which items were reduced it’s impossible for us to say.

TitianaTitsling · 29/06/2020 11:57

£65.09

MrBennsshop · 29/06/2020 11:57

No idea, but it's a lot of unnecessary plastic wrapping.

SapphosRock · 29/06/2020 11:59

It's not a complete full weeks shop but then we will freeze a couple of the salmon fillets, and stuff like the hand wash, pasta sauce and tikka paste will last longer than a week.

Those saying it would cost £30 in aldi - is it honestly that cheap that could get 5 packs of chicken, 5 salmon, sea bass, olives, buffalo mozzarella etc for that price? I get the veg would be cheaper but sounds crazy cheap.

I've never lived near one so I haven't been able to shop there

Microwaveoven · 29/06/2020 12:06

£110

CottonSock · 29/06/2020 12:07

Dunno, thought 50, but didn't see the pricey salmon. Maybe 69.

Went into m&s this morning for evening meal, few bits, birthday cake. Added some undies and it was £70.

AllStartedWithUSA · 29/06/2020 12:08

@Crockodoodle. It might have been me that made you giggle when I said like M&S quality Blush I was more thinking of things like their ready meals (Curries etx we love) and cakes and biscuits and sandwiches. Nothing “raw” as such. I also shop in Aldi and Lidl and think their quality is good (even fruit and veg in my stores!!) and I don’t think there is difference in salmon chicken etc either. So I should have perhaps qualified my statement.

I’ve also been influenced by M&S we my local food shop has been outstanding through lockdown. Always felt safe. They cleaning trollies, no massive queues and just felt clean. I shopped there first 6 weeks exclusively. I can’t afford that. I’ve gone back to local Lidl now initial madness has worn off and you know what it’s clean and safe feeing too and quality is good.

CuppaZa · 29/06/2020 12:09

I reckon £70-ish

thegcatsmother · 29/06/2020 12:10

£68.30 at a guess, as there are 4 chickens there.

oiboi · 29/06/2020 12:10

Ah mate just tell us. I feel like a shouldn't give a shit how much this costs but cos of the build up I HAVE TO KNOW and all these hints are driving me nuts.

For my guess £62.80

AllStartedWithUSA · 29/06/2020 12:11

@doadeer no I don’t think you’d get all that for £30. Aldi is cheaper but it’s not dirt cheap anymore either. I’d guess maybe £50? It’s good though. Always works out a cheap shop for me (if I ignore the middle random aisles!)

Kinneddar · 29/06/2020 12:13

Yep
Microwaveoven · 29/06/2020 12:15

God I shouldn't care this much. I used to do stuff with my life.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 29/06/2020 12:16

Come on then, tell us....

MissHemsworth · 29/06/2020 12:17

£64.29 please tell us....the suspense is killing me Grin

SapphosRock · 29/06/2020 12:20

Sorry was cooking the chicken!
£57.54

I thought that was a bargain for the quality of food. I would be v surprised to get the same quality in Aldi for much less.

The plastic packaging upsets me too.

That 85 normal price I Marks and Spencer unless things were on 3 for 2, but with yellow stickers things can be reduced by 25pence or down to only10 pence an item depending on the item, thtle store and the time if day so its impossible to guess.
Without giving an idea of the number if reduced items and the items that were reduced it's a silly game. That said 54.35

BiddyPop · 29/06/2020 12:23

Well, considering that I did get a bit carried away when I was back in the office for a day early this month, and spent €172 on M&S food (including that bag of 5 salmon fillets as it happens), I think possibly around £67, even with a voucher, but given the quality, would be happy with that. I also got a bag of mussels, that tend to have a couple of weeks to use, which are nice (and easy) to make a pasta with white wine/cream sauce meal.

(I also ended up spending over €350 in the local large supermarket the following week, as I was restocking cupboards and can't get lots of those items in the smaller ones locally).

MotherMorph · 29/06/2020 12:37

I'm impressed at the reduced items but other items such as broccoli, mozzarella and cottage cheese seem quite a lot. Overall not as much as I thought.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2020 12:38

I think that's great value

I don't eat meat/fish and I spend about £70-£80 on the two of us from there (mostly salads)

PegasusReturns · 29/06/2020 12:44

That’s good value.

I’m an M&S shopper - and occasional boycotter - and my guess would have been £105

gopuff · 29/06/2020 12:45

This is the best way to shop in M&S, once you start adding in the snacks, treats, drinks, household items then the bill racks up.
