Can positive pregnancy tests be false?

My last period was 10 March, (I made a thread about if it is to do with being overweight) went for my smear on weds and mentioned this when she was asking the usual questions.
She suggested I POAS and I did just because but not for one minute thinking it would be positive but it was
I was kind of shocked into just leaving but since I've been panicking reading things about what can cause a false positive.

Is it possible for a false positive to just be a false positive. Even when it's a Dr's test?

Aw congrats. I also keep hearing this! I've heard rumours that the younger you are when you have the snip, the more likely it heals back together.

HansBanans · 01/07/2020 12:27

Wow, that must have been quite a shock for you both but congrats OP x

SistemaAddict · 01/07/2020 12:35

Awww how lovely. I do think that sometimes things are just meant to be and some babies defeat all odds to be conceived. A friend of mine used confirms and the morning after pill and didn't find out until she was 5 months pregnant. Her dd was the born early but is now a thriving feisty 5 year old.
Vasectomy failure rates are worrying. I've read a few threads on here where this has happened.
Congratulations!

So he's had the snip, you didn't have sex, but you're pregnant?

Surely he's wondering if....

No I'm not gonna say it.

Congratulations.

ShebaShimmyShake · 01/07/2020 14:02

What a story.

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 14:03

He can't possibly be wondering. We have both been more or less at home since lock down! Going out for exercise together, online shopping. The only time we've had apart is like 20 minutes nipping to the shops but then we've had the kids with us.

Just foreplay? No piv at all?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 01/07/2020 14:16

And a vasectomy!

Hugglespuffed · 01/07/2020 14:17

I do believe you but how on earth can you get pregnant if he has had the snip PLUS you didn't even have sex?

CommunistLegoBloc · 01/07/2020 14:17

Wow. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.

milcmxxx · 01/07/2020 14:20

Oh my goodness this is amazing!!! The odds that little thing has defeated...congrats!!
@Himbeerrot if it were me I would be scared to tell my partner in case he thought something because it’s so incredible 😂

But you’re right...in lockdown he couldn’t really suspect and sounds like you are very happy and trust each other💗 And you’re very fertile! Xxx

employeewoes · 01/07/2020 14:33

How do you both feel? This must be so unexpected for you! Hope you are both ok.

magicmarkerz · 01/07/2020 14:45

Wow, there's been a few of these threads recently! How exciting Grin

Hippofrog · 01/07/2020 14:58

Can you not remember doing anything with your husband OP were you that tipsy? In all seriousness it sounds like you were taken advantage of Flowers

milcmxxx · 01/07/2020 15:05

I was meant to @ @DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou in my last post ooops x

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 17:23

No PIV but messing about that could have easily transferred Semen? I don't really know. Possible we did have sex but both can't remember. We hadn't drank for a while and we both did get very very drunk so anything is possible!

@Himbeerrot You'll have to name the baby after your tipple that fateful evening 😂

IrishCream123 · 01/07/2020 17:45

How old are your other children OP? How will/have they taken the news of a new sibling on the way?

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 18:04

They're 14, 12, 10 and 6 they seem fine at the minute. Busy household with lots of kids anyway so hopefully they will adjust ok

What a shock!
You must both be unbelievably fertile to get pregnant like that after a vasectomy.

I had a friend as a teen who for pregnant while technically still a Virgin!

Katinthedoghouse · 01/07/2020 18:11

Best wishes OP

Stories like this just freak me out tho. You just don’t expect a proven vasectomy to reverse itself after 6 years...or maybe you do and I’m just naive

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 19:25

Ha, yes I vaguely remember bacardi and coke being involved! I think I do remember fooling around now I know it happened if that makes sense.

It's unusual to perform a smear test on a pregnant woman unless there has been a previous abnormality. I was trained to postpone the test if a woman turned out to be pregnant.

It's like a magical conception.

Yes, I’ve heard that smear tests aren’t carried out on pregnant women either. Perhaps it’s a new policy?
