Can positive pregnancy tests be false?

My last period was 10 March, (I made a thread about if it is to do with being overweight) went for my smear on weds and mentioned this when she was asking the usual questions.
She suggested I POAS and I did just because but not for one minute thinking it would be positive but it was
I was kind of shocked into just leaving but since I've been panicking reading things about what can cause a false positive.

Is it possible for a false positive to just be a false positive. Even when it's a Dr's test?

@Lozz22

I had a false positive on a Superdrugs digital test a few years ago got 6 of them reduced 5 negative and one positive although they were reduced and near their shelf life. I wasn't pregnant that time. Had another brand, just a 99p cheapo got lots of positives on them but clear blue negative. Dr said it was probably a faulty batch and to rule out a pregnancy. Period that month was really heavy and full of clots. So yeah false positives do happen but I wouldn't have thought the test at the Drs plus the one you did would both be a false one.
That sounds more like an early miscarriage than a false positive.

OP, I hope you get an answer tomorrow. It must be a concern.

@Himbeerrot

Not menopausal, definitely not 6 months pregnant. I know some people do find out late but there's no way, sorry for tmi but with my other children when I was more than 4 months pregnant, if I orgasmed then my lower stomach felt really hard for a few minutes and I've not had that at all.
But you said you haven't had sex in 6 months?

When is the scab?

Choice4567 · 01/07/2020 11:32

Scan. Sorry!

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 11:38

Approx 15wk pregnant. We did go to a wedding at end of march. I did drink but I'm sure it wasn't enough to not realise we'd had sex but apparently so!

Glad I'm neither seriously ill or 6 months gone though

Oh my goodness what a shock! How are you feeling?

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 11:45

Shocked actually. As far as I remember I haven't had sex in 6 months. And dh has had the snip. He says we didn't dtd just foreplay but I guess that was enough

OP posts:
Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 11:53

I say wedding. It was a 'wedding' as in a massive zoom piss up with the couple due to get married. So not like we were in a hotel or anything where our be more likely to remember fooling around with it being unfamiliar surroundings.
I guess with it just being at home it was normal /natural so I don't remember

Flittingabout · 01/07/2020 11:59

Sounds like you just forgot you had sex and it was no great mystery after all!

Congratulations OP!

Himbeerrot · 01/07/2020 12:03

Yep, well according to dh we didn't actually have sex just other stuff, obviously meant to be seeing as we didn't have full PIV and he's had the snip 🙈

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 01/07/2020 12:04

I guess your DH will need another vasectomy!

Sexnotgender · 01/07/2020 12:07

Congratulations, how are you feeling?

zippityzip · 01/07/2020 12:09

Christ almighty I keep reading this lately, I wonder if you had the same doctor that keeps doing the snips that aren't working!

In all seriousness, congrats. It's a one in a million chance and meant to be!

Auntieaunt · 01/07/2020 12:12

OP this little bub has defeated all odds to be conceived.
