My thighs hurt after another corporate day in a dress. I think bloomers might be the answer.

After another sweaty day where my thighs have just and so caught each other every time I've moved to 'make a cup of coffee' stand in front of the open fridge in the office kitchen wafting my dress and my knicker elastic is rubbing on my 3day post bikini line trim stubble I feel that there must be a better way.

I'm seriously considering some kind of nice airy bloomers, I'm trying to work out how they could be slimline enough to still be flattering under a dress.

I've tried cycling shorts, cut down leggings etc but surely the whole point of wearing a dress is to avoid the whole sweaty crotch on a hot day issue you get with trousers/leggings.

I've also tried the glidey balm stuff but it makes me feel a bit, icky.

Is it time for a lightweight, non bulky. slimline cotton bloomer revolution? How do we make this happen? I'm thinking like men's boxers but nicer.

I sometimes get my DH silk boxer shorts to put in his stocking at Christmas. I've not actually tried them on (I will, tomorrow!) but they look damn comfy, and while they're called boxers, being silk they drape and don't puff out at the sides like cotton boxers do. They have plenty of thigh room unless you are very generous of thigh and would go at least a couple of inches below the way crotch.

Something like this? Beware searching eBay for 'silk boxers' as most of them are synthetic and you also have to scroll down thousands of fugly men's underwear shots. Grin

I bought something called bandallettes that are basically like the top 4 inches of hold ups without the rest, it would stop the thigh rub but not solve the knickers issue... they don’t add extra layers to knicker region just add fabric to the thigh bit that rubs...

Snag tights do shorts for thigh rub. I wear them all the time. They don't make me sweaty.

@StormBaby

I got mine from sainsbury's and I'm not sure I can ever go back to knickers

I've been thinking about this a lot recently. How have women and girls got into a position where it's become normal to wear tight sweaty underwear with no other readily available options? You go in any supermarket and men can choose from hipsters, boxers, yfronts etc but women's underwear is all about how high the leg cut goes and how much bum cheek is showing and not how much air you can get circulating if you are prone to a warm undercarriage.

Sloggi long leg knickers are good

TorkTorkBam · 27/06/2020 00:45

Stop looking for knickers, start looking for nightwear. Silk or cotton pyjama shorts are wonderful: comfortable, just airy enough and widely available.

If the only issue with cycling shorts or leggings is the sweaty crotch then cut a hole in the crotch.

At least until you find something you like better.

It won't fix the bikini line issues but it will sort out the rubbing.

TimeWastingButFun · 27/06/2020 01:16

Wear trousers?

Lilymossflower · 27/06/2020 01:30

Don't you have boy-leg knickers in the UK? Easy to find here in NZ and far more comfortable than high cut.

Runners Anti chafe cream.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 27/06/2020 05:18

Or boy leg knickers as previous person suggested, silk pj shorts. Or men’s tight thigh undies (which are so super comfortable but not at all sexy)
With runners anti-chafe gel on your thighs.

I say that as someone who lives in revoltingly hot humidity during summer and sweats like a horse.

No one likes thigh chafe.

Teaandscone · 27/06/2020 05:34

I found old-fashioned baby powder useful.

HelloToMyKitty · 27/06/2020 05:37

Talcum powder was the go-to in the swampy American South and it really works but never on the nether regions, just the thighs

Amazon have pettipants! The culotte slip mentioned up thread!

Thing is you won’t waft if there is any quantity of material, even cotton. It’ll get damp and scrunch and rise up as you walk.

I’ve found I’m far less clammy and sweaty arrived there now I’ve got a minge again after many years without. It’s almost like nature designed us an inbuilt wicking system for the parts of our body prone to dampness and chafing. It’s been a revelation.

Obvs that wouldn’t help with chub rub but i think dimond might’ve mentioned something you can apply to help with that Wink

StarlightLady · 27/06/2020 07:06

I suppose it won’t help with the thigh rub, which fortunately is not a problem l have, but in terms of keeping cooler, apart from during periods, l don’t wear knickers with (longish) summer dresses and skirts in the warm weather. Far less sweaty.

girlcrushonvillanelle · 27/06/2020 07:19

Mitchum roll on deodorant, put lots in and wait for it to dry. You would not know it was there.

Surely anything loose will ride up.

MyEnormousTurnip · 27/06/2020 07:24

These are pricey but dm swears by them for all year round comfort.

Out of my price range sadly.

spotthecats · 27/06/2020 07:24

I'm in Australia so undercarriage sweating is the norm. I now wear period underwear all the time. No sweaty feeling and it's very comfortable.

fascinated · 27/06/2020 07:26

This is why it escapes me that people like hot places!

snappycamper · 27/06/2020 07:27

M&S cool comfort culottes for me. I have a few and wear them lots. They come to just above the knee do work for me as I mainly wear long skirts

You need Body Glide anti chafing gel. It’s absolutely the best one out there - trust me I’ve tried them all and all the underwear/tights/thigh bands options. It’s a roll on that doesn’t leave any strange residues or oiliness. I used to spend every summer either boiling in trousers or leggings or in agony with thighs that actually bled because they rubbed that much while I wore a skirt or dress. Now I put Body Glide on in the morning and that’s me set for the day regardless of what I wear. No rubbing, no strange feelings or stickiness - just painless sunny days. It’s even worked for me on holidays when I’ve been lathered in sun cream and in and out the pool. I even said to my husband yesterday that it was my favourite product as it was such a life saver!
